Advice on Domain that I have a chance to buy...

Hey All,

First off let me say that I don't want to reveal the domain just yet because I don't want to lose the chance. Sorry, but I hope someone can advise me with this information, albetit scarce. I know how ridiculous this may sound.

I have the chance to buy a domain that is country specific.
Top-Level domain.
Has mention on a Wikipedia Page. I say a mention and not an actual backlink.
Never been used.
Spells out a name when put together. I think this is called a domain hack E.g. willi.am.
5 letter + extension.

It was apparently sought after but there were restrictions on who could buy the domain at the time that have since been lifted. This is all from my own research. The seller is only looking for double digits for it so I don't think they have done their research and possibly just bought it on a whim or maybe it's only worth what they want.

It's scarce information I know but I am hoping for some advice.

Do you think something like this would be worth buying and possibly reselling for a higher price?

Without knowing the name the best advice I can give you is to do further research on similar sales of domain hacks and then make a decision once you feel like you have an adequate amount of information.

It's hard to help without knowing the name but don't post it here before you've purchased.

I would say if you like it and it's only in the $XX range then get it and then ask for advice after. That's if it's an affordable purchase for you.

Domain hacks went through a phase of being popular and some still are. I used to have some co.in ones and I really did like them.

Domain names are fundamentally illiquid assets, and domain hacks are even harder to sell. How often do you see them featured in sales reports ? I tend to say that a name is available for a reason.

If you really like the name and it will only cost you double digits to acquire then you should get it. It's a minimal investment for a name you like and you think has value. Worst case you should at least be able to get your money back.
