Octo Browser vs AdsPower

There are many anti-detect browsers on the market, but when it comes to choosing a reliable tool for your work, it is reasonable to want to pick the best one. We decided to help you make an informed decision by comparing Octo Browser with another anti-detect browser, AdsPower. Previously, we compared Octo with Gologin and Dolphin{anty}, and today we are going to discuss AdsPower in detail to help you make the best choice.

A Brief Overview of AdsPower

AdsPower was developed in 2019 in Hong Kong and is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The main interface languages are Chinese and English, with translations into 12 additional languages. Five profiles are available for free, and there is a three-day trial version. The paid subscription can be customized, with options to purchase additional profiles or add new team members. On the website you can choose a monthly payment model or an annual plan with a 40% discount. In the browser itself, you can extend your subscription for periods ranging from 30 to 720 days, with the largest discount being 50%.

AdsPower offers fingerprint spoofing based on Chromium and Firefox kernels and can emulate Windows, macOS, Linux, as well as Android and iOS. One of the distinctive features of its fingerprinting spoofing options is the so-called multi-kernel method, which allows users to manually select different browser kernels for profile configuration.
AdsPower presents this feature as an advantage. However, we believe that in anti-detect browsers high-quality default settings that work well with most platforms are more important than the ability to fine-tune the browser digital fingerprint in the tiniest detail.
Another distinguishing feature of AdsPower is its convenient automation tools. For those unfamiliar with coding, this anti-detect browser provides the ability to create automation scripts for profile actions.

There is also a special marketplace with ready-made scripts for working with various platforms.

AdsPower also offers a synchronizer that allows you to duplicate actions across multiple browser profiles. This is a convenient function; however, it's only applicable to accounts whose lifespan isn't crucial for work since such accounts can easily be detected due to simultaneous repetitive actions.

Aside from these functions, Octo Browser and AdsPower have other differences in the interface, proxy connection options, team settings, and other aspects. Let’s take a closer look.

Interface

AdsPower displays a lot of pop-up ads with the free plan. After purchasing the paid version, these ads disappear, and the workspace becomes accessible.

The main menu is placed on the left and takes up a significant part of the interface, but it can be minimized to a strip with icons. The rest of the screen is occupied by the workspace with the profile list. The profile list can be customized by adding or removing key fields, but the interaction options with the list itself are fewer than in Octo Browser. A notable feature is the ability to group profiles, which is convenient for organizing them. In Octo Browser, this function can be performed by tags.

Интерфейс Octo Browser

Octo Browser Interface
For experienced users of anti-detect browsers, most of the features will be familiar and intuitively found, but the interface may still seem overloaded with various elements in different styles and sizes, as well as color accents, making it difficult to find any visual hierarchy at first glance.

For beginners, AdsPower might seem complicated, as working with profiles will require numerous clicks and an understanding of the differences between various profile creation options. Clicking on any of these opens a large window with detailed fingerprint settings. This may be challenging for those who don’t understand well how the browser kernel version affects account trustworthiness or whether the user agent should be configured manually or left randomly generated.

However, for experienced users, AdsPower offers certain advantages too, such as viewing and copying cookies without having to launch profiles.

Octo Browser is easier for beginners to navigate. The first launch immediately takes you to the space where new profiles will appear. By clicking "Quick Profile" you can create a ready-to-use profile in one click and start working with it, while further steps can be figured out by hovering over tooltips. The Octo interface is not overloaded with buttons or bright elements, and the main features are accessible directly from the profile list or when selecting one or more profiles.

Let’s go over the key interface features and functions of Octo Browser and AdsPower.

Fingerprint Spoofing

The main task of an anti-detect browser is to spoof the digital fingerprint. Each solution has its own algorithm, composition, and fingerprint configuration options. At Octo Browser, we strive to ensure that even quick profiles with default fingerprints pass all checkers and are perceived by services as genuine users.

In AdsPower, fingerprint settings open regardless of the type of profile you want to create: new, quick, or multiple profiles at once. There are many settings but no tips to guide users in order to prevent them from creating an inconsistent fingerprint.

For example, in AdsPower, you can select a user agent with older browser kernel versions, while in Octo Browser all profiles are created with the most up-to-date browser kernel version to successfully blend in with the majority of Internet users. Additionally, AdsPower has global settings where you can edit several parameters affecting all profiles, such as proxy auto-configuration, browser settings, or data synchronization.

In Octo Browser, instead of global settings, there are profile templates that allow you to create a set of parameters that applies to all profiles based on these templates.

Kernel Update Speed

While AdsPower allows you to choose kernel versions, they are not always the latest. Octo browser kernel was updated to Chromium 127 on July 25, 2024, while AdsPower’s SunBrowser kernel was only updated to Chromium 127 on August 12.

It is critically important for anti-detect browsers to update their kernel promptly, and we explained why here. AdsPower developers seem to have a different opinion, as they are in no hurry to update their browser kernel.

Actions with profiles and bulk actions

In anti-detect browsers, each profile is a resource, an expendable, and a working tool. Therefore, anti-detect browsers provide the ability to perform various actions with profiles, such as moving, exporting, creating and launching multiple profiles at once, assigning tags, changing bookmarks, leaving notes, etc.

In both AdsPower and Octo Browser most profile actions are similarly accessible, with the only differences being that AdsPower allows you to export cookies without launching the profile, clear the profile cache, and move the profile to a group (because AdsPower works with group functionality).

Octo lets you launch the Cookie Robot that automatically collects the necessary browsing history. Additionally, Octo offers profile history and restoration, whereas AdsPower has an activity log, which, however, is more related to team member activities than to specific profile actions.

Connecting proxies

Both AdsPower and Octo allow you to connect proxies directly from the profile list. The difference is that in Octo more actions can be performed with proxies; you can copy them and test connection, as well as view extended connection information.

Additional info about proxy
In AdsPower, as in Octo, there is a Proxy Manager that allows you to save proxies to a list, connect a provider using pre-configured settings, and even choose a provider from the "more resources" tab. However, you cannot purchase proxies directly in the browser; you still have to go to the provider's website, so the proxy manager in AdsPower serves more as an advertising showcase for their partners.

In Octo, the Proxy Manager performs its primary function. You can add proxies individually or in bulk, refresh the entire proxy list, search for the required proxies, and check them in one click. Both the list and the Proxy Manager have an auto-fill feature, making it much easier to set up and save proxies in profiles in Octo.

Teamwork

Another fundamental difference between Octo Browser and AdsPower is teamwork. AdsPower’s group functionality adds convenience for distributing profile access rights among different team members.

The super administrator can see a list of users, a detailed log of each user's actions, and a list of users moved to the trash. AdsPower also offers more granular control over team member permissions. The admin can grant access to functions in the team management section, manage profiles, groups, access reports, extensions, the trash, RPA, proxies, and the synchronizer.

In Octo, starting with the Team subscription, the master account can also assign different access rights to various team members. Settings allow you to specify which functions and tags the new team member can access, as well as different resources: profiles, proxies, templates, and extensions.

In Octo Browser tags can function as groups in AdsPower, so we recommend adding tags to all profiles and using them to grant access rights to different team members.

Profile Data Security

In AdsPower profile data is stored in cloud storage, allowing access from any device and sharing it with team members. Users can choose to synchronize data with the cloud storage or store it locally on their device.

For an additional level of protection, AdsPower uses data encryption, and when installing extensions, it suggests using them from the secure Chrome Web Store. However, extensions do not update automatically. The user must manually update them when a new version is needed. In Octo, you can choose to update extensions automatically or disable this feature.
Additional security features in AdsPower include two-factor authentication and the option to receive alerts for failed login attempts, as well as the option to set up an authorized IP address list for authentication.

Octo Browser also offers two-factor authentication, and profile data is stored in encrypted form on European servers. The profiles themselves are encrypted using multiple components. If an attacker does not have access to all of these components, it is impossible to decrypt the profile; we have explained this in more detail in our article on user data protection.

However, in anti-detect browsers too many people may have access to profiles, so Octo Browser has implemented a feature not found in any other anti-detect browser: profile passwords. A password-protected profile cannot be launched without knowing the password, even if someone gains access to the device.

Technical Support

AdsPower has a built-in support widget both on the website and in the browser itself. They claim support is available in four languages, but on Telegram AdsPower support is only available in three: Vietnamese, English, and Russian. However, Russian-speaking users have complained that they are not understood even in English by the support team. You can try to figure out AdsPower settings on your own, as they offer documentation, but it is not as detailed as in Octo Browser.

In addition to detailed documentation with video tutorials, Octo Browser offers a support widget on the website, in the browser, and on Telegram in two languages: Russian and English. There is also an active community speaking Russian and English, where you can ask questions, and colleagues or support will promptly help you.

Conclusion

After a deep look into AdsPower, we concluded that it is a technically complex anti-detect browser that, on one hand, offers a free plan with 5 profiles, convenient for beginners. On the other hand, to use it effectively, you need to understand which fingerprint parameters are needed for different tasks. This can be challenging for those who have never worked with anti-detect browsers before. Therefore, it’s more suitable for professionals, but even we encountered issues with slow performance during testing. When working professionally with multiple accounts, profile loading speed and the anti-detect browser's overall performance can play a critical role.

Octo offers its users more expensive subscriptions but with more flexible conditions. For personal use, there are Starter and Base subscriptions, and for teams Team, Advanced, and Custom options are available. The resources in the subscriptions differ somewhat, but you always get a reliable tool where you don’t need to worry about detailed profile settings or their security. Octo profiles with default settings work excellently with any platform and pass even the strictest checks.
