Accuracy of Appraisals

Hi all,

Being a relative new member of this forum and domaining in general, I was curious to gather opinions on why the various methods of valuation, appear to be very so diverse and contradicting.

For example, I had a name appraised by Premium Domains and classed as such, yet Nameboy basically indicated the value as Reg Fee only.

Estibot, seems to have a bit more credibility would I be correct in saying that?

Additionally, i have noticed that requests for appraisals on this forum go unnoticed, unless the domain id either highly sought after or contains appealing or key words.

Feedback would be appreciated. :$:

BUMP :hi:

there is no accurate way to appraise domains while some you can get a ballpark figure based on earnings, i think the only exception is worthless names which most agree on are worthless. But how do you put a price on a memmorable short name that many endusers might want i dont think even the buyers are sure of what they will pay till an auction is close to closing. I have some domains that several other boards have said are worth reg fee or 200.00 that earn at least 1k a year now, so basically i go with my gut no matter what others say

appraisals

I think the more sales you have seen the better idea you get for how much certain names could sell for. The more experience you have the better your eye is on the value or potential future value. I agree with fatter that some names start off as reg fee and then once they've aged a year, they're potential becomes better realized.

Every now and then some sales surprise everyone, but for the most part I think the Namepros members are very adapt at making good calls.

As far as nameboy and estibot, I'd only use them as a guiding tool. An automated appraisal system is an awesome idea, but with so many unique interests, trends, tastes, etc. they can't be relied upon as more than just a passing glance.

For save appraisals i use a 2 google method.

1. I check with "some keyword" with "....". If have advertisement at bottom or right place i reg. the domain name.

2. I use google PPC estimator, if have a lot volume potencial click i reg. the domain.

This is my method, if domain not sell quickly i will park this domain. 100% work for me at this time.

We tend to stick to what we have experience and intrest in. We hope there is enough people to pick up the slack. Some names are intresting because they are good, sometimes because they are bad. Cant look at them all, apprasial burn out.

this is a good question ...... i think problem is 'human factor' with most apprasials

I use Estibot and Nameboy and if Nameboy appraise a value over 10K and Estibot over $100 I usually register that name.

These automatic appraisal websites, in my opinion, should only be used as an estimate. A domains value is based upon the value to an end user, isn't it? So i could own the domain http://mdhgsdgsdg43663.com which every appraisal service will say is worth less than the reg fee, because it has no keywords, search engine links etc. But to an end user who could really want that domain for whatever reason, maybe it's their company name? it could be worth a lot.
