There is no doubt, Domain Market (Mike Mann) sell huge number of domains for great sales. Their portfolio is amazing. I was just trying to learn from past sales, and was curious about one of their sales. Why does this happen in domain industry (and why so quick)

On May 22, 2023 Mike Mann Reported (tweeted)

" Big sales bring a new life of wellness. Sold http://NewLifeWellness.com $39,000 "

It was also reported on https://domaingang.com/domain-news/mike-mann-drops-price-sells-newlifewellness-com/

And then on 2024-12-02 it was sold on DropCatch for $909

https://namebio.com/newlifewellness.com

And now it is again on sale for 19,999

So why did someone let it drop after purchasing it for 39000. Is it something normal ? Or it was dropped by mistake. Does it happen more often in industry. I am not experienced, so just want to know. Isn't it opportunity to get these type of good domains to get for lower prices when this type of drops are available ?

I think experts like @Bob Hawkes can share their views, so that people like me can understand this well.

PS: This SLD is regd in 18 TLDs and some of them are developed while .com, .net and .org all three are listed for sale.

I'm very curious to this as well.

I frequently go back many months for NameBio daily sales posts and visit "sold" domains. Practically never do I see a developed domain name. Why do folks often spend beyond top dollar for a domain name and do nothing with it. Very weird!

@doidomnola Well, as far as not being developed is concerned, it can be because investors buy it for long term but when the domain is sold for huge amount like above and then drops, that's something which i don't understand.

Hundreds of reasons why they had the domain expire - one thing for sure is that they didn’t do it on purpose

I get picking up a domain for 3 and low 4 digit buys and holding them long term.

I don't get 4 and 5 figure buys that sit for 10 years and don't even load.

VVV.com $136k March 2015
MyLearning.com $14k March 2015
Legend.net $13k March 2015
8316.com $13k March 2015
Petsy.com $25k April 2015
Pompeii.com $20k April 2015
Ticket.co $20k April 2015

Yes, that's why experts can shed some light on some common reasons.

Focus on acquiring good names and selling them.

I don't think anyone here can tell you for sure why a buyer drops a name after spending a lot of money, unless they have interviewed them.

Most names that are sold are not developed.

MyLearning, Ticket.co and Legend.net can give them high 5 figures for sure but yes, some sales don't make sense to me too.

The post is for experts, and some of them will surely reply which i am looking for. You don't worry, it is just for my research and understanding, didn't ask for any specific thing or unnecessary aggression.

The buyer's eyes were washed by Mike Mann's reputation/pink glasses, then he later realized his big mistake.
That is why if you want to be a squatter, be like Mike Mann. :glasses:
I suggest some domains in Mike's style (squatterra, com and squatterspace, com) still available to hand reg, omg can't stop laugh.
p.s. stop worshiping this false gods. :tightlyclosedeyes:
edit: between Mike I own the best domain with Mann ending, hope you will come with big offer soon, one of the best brands out there.

I didn't mean to say anything about Mann here, i was just trying to ask, why would someone pay that much and let it drop and then it again went for like 3 figure. I know that SLD is being used by multiple business around the world and some other tlds are developed but still, that amount paid was too much and then it dropped. Amazing.

I'm usually skeptical of these kind of shenanigans. But this one seems legit.

There was a trademark filed March 25th 2023, two months before the domain was bought.

And the trademark was abandoned April 3rd 2024, 7 months before the domain expired.

Just like 4 and 5 figures sounds like a lot of money to you, 3 and low 4 figures sounds like a lot of money to someone else. There are levels to this game and to many people 5, 6, and even 7 figures is a drop in the ocean and not something they think twice about spending.

I get 5, 6, and 7 fig purchases just not the names I'm seeing posted. I think most folks know one or more rich folks and not too many burn money for the fun of it other than the guy who bought the banana taped to wall.

It's not just rich folks, many times it's businesses that have got funding or strategic reasons for wanting the name.

Mike has mentioned many times he has built tools & data to get insights few other people have for this type of stuff and the timing and prices of names sold tends to corroborate this.

As domain investors we are so focused on comparing names and looking at broad data that it's easy to forget the single business owner who just wants that ONE specific name and who has the funds to pay whatever is being asked.

Many of his sales are fake. Kyle Tully you sound arrogant pretty often, what works for you and a super tiny minority does not work for 99.9% of domainers. Take it easy..

Really ? I thought he was so experienced domainer. He always blamed Swetha. I never thought like this about his sale. Strange.

So this is normal for a domain to be sold like this and then getting dropped that quickly. Hmmm.

Perhaps what 99% of domainers are doing is not what people like Mike and I are doing?

I don't know if I'd say it's "normal" but it certainly happens.

Plans change. Businesses pivot. Unless someone at the business has their personal income tied to what happens with the domain it's often easier for them to just let it drop than figure out what to do with it.

Makes sense.

May be your right, but to learn something, research is needed, and for research, there is only one thing which is known as past. But thank you for your suggestion, will try to study this method as well which you have mentioned.
