Found an interesting thread done by someone at Harvard. Eventhough it may date back to 2002, it is a bit of historical reference. The thread is about Top Registrants of Common Nouns in Open ccTLDs. You will find some interesting references, though you may have to dig a little. click on the "Registrations in Open ccTLDs" for more...

WTF D-: "Finally, pricing policies in certaion open ccTLDs may influence firms' decisions not to register such domains; in particular, the .TV registry charges as much as $1 million (per year) for that registry's so-called "premium names."

this can't be true ??? :-/

Sady, very true....Annual fees for "premium" names (prices range from $500 to $1,000,000 per-year), where the asking annual price is over $1000 (US$), can be lowered through you making them an "offer". They are not obligated to anything lower than the asking rate listed for the name. A search of the many names they consider "premium" (those unregged so far) can be found at http://www.tv/cgi-bin/premium_search.cgi . The following 2 domains fit in your $1million+year catagory (with the annual fee - asking fee, assume you can negotiate it lower :p ), and are still available if you want them ( ):

business.tv $ 1,000,000.00 ($US/year)
news.tv $ 1,000,000.00

I'll take them both  Is this the only extension that operates like this ?

Found some bargains though...8-X I truly hope other extentions wont follow suit.
