Imagine loading up on hundreds of new TLDs thinking that 3-5 years down the road there would be massive demand for them and then finding out that new TLDs are just another extension. The registries and registrars make money and throw a few scraps at domainers so they continue to believe the lie - the real world does not view domains as real estate and aftermarket demand for domains is far lower than domain investors are led to believe.

Bad domains. A common noobie mistake. Definitely registered for development. Been guilty of that myself early on. But I didn’t hold on to them for 17 years. 🀦

Also Covid may play a big role in people staying away from travel related projects for the time being. Travel industry has been hit hard.

Maybe the 'jump to' phrase was leftover from the old post billboard days when it was common to 'jump' to an exact page (can't believe those old brain cells are still remembering saying that!). Since the latter part of the examples offered above would have been registered early on, the 'jump to' was available to register 17 years ago. Today people add 'the', 'buy', 'get', etc to achieve the same goal. But, of course, I could be wrong.

Directories can mean a lot of things.
They just didn't evolve.

There still are a lot of directories that niche specific yelp type sites ranking for local terms and raking in thousands in leads

Sugar is a bad word. And so is "directory" nowadays.

I think they made money with those directories. Got lots of them, probably some automated system, and cashed money here and there. But probably not anymore.

That was hurt! 17 years.
I am yet on the way consuming Manas, after running out it comes to blood...

The changing Search landscape (people navigating by search engine rather than directory) may also have had an effect. Google doesn't like competition and has a history of murdering sites and small businesses with its "updates". Then again, there may be some federal antitrust actions in the offing in the next few weeks.

Thanks for drawing attention to us. While very often one sees a lot of similar names dropping, this is particularly startling looking at the holing cost involved. While without knowing more difficult to surmise too much to me the messages are...
  • Don't tie too much of your investing 'risk' in one thing.
  • Trends do change, so review your portfolio at least yearly.
  • Ask carefully who end users would be, and if that market is growing or shrinking.
  • Watch competition and uniqueness. If JumpTo..... is good, then what similar phrases would be essentially as good and are unregistered. Three word names do sometimes sell for a lot, but often struggle with being unique enough.
In the sugar list I think some of those are much better and some much worse, and it is a good example of where selective retention of a few would have made sense rather than keeping an entire list (or even registering them in first place).

I can only see in NameBio two .com sales with JumpTo prefix, both under $400 and neither with a place name. Interestingly

MoveTo is popular in sales according to examples on GoDaddy valuation instrument comparators, but only a few in NameBio. Might suggest a bias in the types of terms if we have only NameBio data. I have often wondered how not having Afternic sales alters our perception of the names that are selling. No I am not suggesting you register 100 MoveToLOCATION names. :xf.grin:

Bob
