Hi folks!, i want to share this article from 101 Domain, it is from 2020 but due to the recent growth of the interest in augmented and virtual reality technology (Meta, Apple glasses, etc.), it seemed to me that the .ar domains are resignified and acquires more value.
Please let me know what do you think about it.

I've had .ar domains registered in the past... relatively expensive and way too much trouble as the registry can take the domain from you for whatever reason they like.
.ar now are in my blacklist, meaning, I completely ignore them when I look for domains.

However,
it's important to note that I'm just sharing my experience from the past. Things might be different now.

Thanks for your answer, I tell you that my experience is a little different from yours.
Regarding the price, currently the registration of the .ar costs 9 dollars (regardless of the number of characters or quality of the name).

And about the registry, the reasons why they can take away a domain are of a legal nature, this appears in the registry regulations and occurs when a person or company claims possession of a domain, having, for example, its registered trademark . In any case, both parties have a voice and the possibility of keeping the domain in that case. But this process is not very common. This has been the case for several years now.

At least this is my experience, thanks for sharing yours!

@Prismo ,
$9 is *definitely* not the normal price for a .ar domain.

When one invests in a tld they need to take note the 'normal' registration costs plus the 'normal' costs of renewals.
Afaik, a 'normal' price for a .ar domain is around $40-$50

As for the reason the registry might take a domain back,
you are absolutely right but the catch is, even when the domain is of a generic nature, any company that used to own it before has priority.

Basically, they took two domains from me:

the first one because it was of adult nature (registry won't allow such domains)

and the second because the company just wanted it back, I wasn't even aware as no-one asked me. At some point -after months- I realised I wasn't receiving traffic from said domain and that's when I found out. Domain was generic btw.

Honestly, there are better extensions out there where a domain owner can have some peace of mind. Imho, .ar is not one of them.

I recently registered some .ar and paid about 9 dollars. I leave you the link to the official registry site where the prices appear ($950 pesos = 8.96 U$S). Of course there are other registries that sell it more expensive, but this is the official price.

About your experience, I'm sorry it was bad. I had never heard that they remove a generic domain (yes, registered trademarks, as I told you before).

On this, I agree. But the topic of the original post was about Augmented Reality technology and the possibilities that .ar offers for domain investments, especially considering the growth of the industry in the coming years.

Email or chat with them before registering any domains. The site may show it as available and it’s not accurate.

Are there active websites on .ar domains?

Hi! Yes, there are currently many active .ar domains and it is a cctld that continues to grow, due to the growth of the augmented reality technological market.

I would like to see concrete examples.

Some examples can be:
techly.ar
vetstore.ar
vape.ar
rightnow.ar
cosmica.ar
industry.ar
chevrolet.ar
As I said before, .ar domains are still in a growth stage since the opening for their registration was very recent compared to others (see This article)

But these websites are not related to augmented reality.
Is there at least one active augmented reality .ar website?

I do not know of any related to augmented reality that is active at the moment, but since it is something so recent and so dynamic this may change soon. In this last year, for example, the game.ar and casino.ar domains were sold.

Hi guys
One of the sites I know is HIRE. AR, related to Augmented Reality. I like to say that .AR domains are for All Realities.
You can get .AR domains much cheaper than $40.
I have quite a few .AR domains, e.g.
admin. AR
base. AR
face. AR
forum. AR
hobby. AR
hardware. AR
live. AR
payment. AR
proxy. AR
room. AR, use. AR, VRXR.AR
and some hack, like webin. AR
And several others, waiting to explode at some point.

I think AR domains are not used yet, because the Augmented Reality industry doesn't know they exist, as they are relatively recent. It is a self-identity for them
Yes, COM is king. But new TLDs are appearing, and there are sales of X,XXX and XX,XXX.
Reason enough to invest
If you were told a few years ago to invest in XYZ, would you have done it?
Best Regards
Ruben

I would like to see concrete examples.
For example, you have faith in .AI (artificial intelligence) and MV (metaverse) domains.
Why do you doubt .AR domains for All Realities?

.mv haven't fired much yet either.
And augmented reality is only a part or type of the Metaverse.
I took up .ai in 2011, and for four years no one recognized it, in 2015 the Chinese began to register and buy it, and only now many real projects in .ai zone are starting to appear.

So, we have to hope that in a few months or a few years .AR domains will start to move. And as I said above, why limit .AR domains to augmented reality, when it can be applied to All Realities?

But "All" carries zero information.
For example, you say that there is blood in the veins of the person you want to find.
But all people fit your criteria, it contains no information.
Domain zones .com .xyz do not provide information about the website, these are universal zones.
.ai - specialized zone.
If you want to develop .ar as a universal zone,
it turns out that you admit that using it as a specialized zone for augmented reality does not give anything.
And a universal zone is even more difficult to create.
Once it seemed that .cc would become the new universal zone, but it did not work out, although .cc is much better for the universal zone than .ar.

here you go, these are ones I've seen so far:
Thank you! is a great example of how tech companies are starting to use the .ar extension. We will be waiting to see how this growth continues in the coming months.
