Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

Interesting thread. Thx Randomo.

All .ins lead themselves to second level hacks quite well I think -
amall.in/SF and amall.in/Mumbai etc.

But I have some originals too :)
rejo.in
ingra.in
founta.in
As to value, I'd have to say I don't have a clue, I know what I won't sell below, if I don't develop but the higher limit is arbit.

OK Folks,

Been a while, took on an outside job that has called on my attentions for nearly all my time, but what time I have had I have been working on www.JesusChri.st. Just finishing off the site and it will go live this weekend.

I tried out several different ideas but in the end decided to go with the conventional. It is a site with all the New Testament on and seems to get a thumbs up from those who into religion, and it especially gets the thumbs up when they find I nearly sold it to a porn developer! :D

The site is fairly simple, 260 odd pages, and if any of you do visit it and see any mistakes please drop me a line, it would be much appreciated.

I picked up Paraff.in

With fuel prices going up, will my domain price go up as well?

*hopes*

Do domain hacks have even $1 value? Who's gonna type in latene.ws when they'll most likely remember it as latenews.com? Domain hacks seem 100% worthless IMO. I don't see value in them, not even reg fee.
100% agreed!

Well for those who do not like hacked domain names this thread is pointless.

However, finally, a day later than planned (sorry about that) JesusChri.st has gone live!!!!! :D

Now the site is a simple one at the moment, but more importantly now starts the marketing of the site. This should get some notice for hacked domains generally, so when values do go up please remember you owe me a pint! :cy:

Domain hacks are only for those who really know about domains!

They are *not* for people those who do not know not even the meaning of domain hack!

wi.fi was sold for $35,000+ almost a year ago.

veg.as was sold for $x,xxx almost two years ago.

Well so much for domain hacks not being worth anything, as you all know I made JesusChri.st live last week, a very simple site indeed, and as yet no advertising has appeared for it, though that is about to change. (By the way it will only be monetised fully later today with Adsense adverts on each page.)

Anyway back to the reason for this post. I have just looked up the Alexa rankings for JesusChri.st and JesusChrist.com/.net/.org/.info, the results are reproduced here:

Domain................................Weekly Ranking............3 Month Ranking
JesusChrist.com........................819,204........................716,198
JesusChrist.net.......................5,582,810.....................1,927,274
JesusChrist.org........................---------.....................5,923,622
JesusChrist.info.......................---------....................24,976,497
JesusChri.st............................3,962,100...................19,962,646

As the site has been live for just under a week it seems quite remarkable that even in the Alexa 3 month rankings it has already become more popular than the .info, but what is amazing is the fact that in the weekly ratings it has already overtaken all the major extensions with the exception of the .com! (Let me assure you I will be working on that from now.)

All five domains have sites on them, some have Google pagerank, and JesusChrist.com is number 2 on the first page of Google for 'Jesus Christ'.

So now the aim is to increase the organic growth in popularity of the hacked domain name by getting links from relevent sites, advertising, and of course getting as high as possible Google page rank.

This example of the effectiveness of an HDN should resonate well with those who needed an example to point to, I hope it will help persuade some of those who doubted the value of an HDN, but of course there will be the killjoys who just refute the evidence, to this last group I will waste no time explaining the basis of the psychology of language or basic principles of marketing.

Come on you HDN owners, produce a half decent site on your HDN and reep the benefits!

So does that means u are getting increasing traffic to your domain hack n clicks on adsense?
i have quite some domain hacks but i have not develop any of them yet

Hi Malaysia,

I am definately getting increased traffic to JesusChri.st since I started to develop it properly only last week, and definately more visitors than when it was just parked!

The question about adsense I cannot answer yet as all but 2 pages (Homepage and Welcome page) had no advertising on them until a couple of hours ago - I have literally just finished putting adsense on all the pages.

The surprise has been how quickly the website has been picked up on! Will it last, as with all websites only time and my efforts will tell, but over the next few months I will be marketing the website so as to give it the best opportunity I can.

As with all HDNs the great thing is that when a visitor has discovered them they will remember them, and of course we hope they will pass the information on to others, and that this continues.

There is in essence no difference between a HDN and a non-HDN, if the site is of interest then the visitor will likely come back to it, but what is different with the large number of HDN's is that they are novel and quirky and hence highly memorable to the visitor or prospective visitor. This is what gives them their inate value in domaining terms, something that has been mentioned before, but always it seems that has been shot down in arguments because there was no accepted examples.

By the way it has to be anticipated that the climb up the rankings will not be smooth and all one way, the unpredictable nature of internet users will result in fluctuations, but I think that without question JesusChri.st will show the value of 'good' HDN's. It is immediately apparent even from this first week that in the long run it will be worth developing them.

Malaysia, why not pick a single one of yours and develop it, check its progress against other relevent sites. If you do then please let us know the results, it would be a boon to many domainers holding HDNs.

Thank you so much for the kind explanation..
I believe development is the key for domains nowadays..esp for names with not much traffic..i went to your site n i really like it.. i wish u success in it..

I dont have much developing skills thus i am left stranded with parking or directing to some link or smth. The most i went is buying minisites scripts n put adsense in it. i have some domain hacks like
em,my
acade,my
tum,my
tim,my
anato,my

n few others . i think i really need to put some thinking in hwo to develop them

anyway thks for the reply.rep added. =)

Thanks for the rep Malaysia, very much appreciated.

Just checked the latest Alexa rankings, and the great news for me is that JesusChri.st has jumped up to a weekly rank of 1,694,092, and the first adsense earnings are starting to appear! :bingo:

Now obviously there is still a lot of work to do with regards to the site so I will start a new seperate thread to report on and give details of exactly what I am doing and how it affects the rankings (and income). I hope the new thread will be of help to other HDN owners in deciding if to develop their domains and if so what strategies seem worth trying.

TheBaldOne, you did a great job with JesusChri.st site. I will definitely develop some of my hacks but its gonna take some time.

I acquired a couple more short hacks in my collection and I will post them later once I acquired the ones I wanted.

I also put CR.AM in Sedo auction so check it out.

Thanks Malaysia the renewal is $75 per year for .AM where I registered it but I think there are other registrar that cost only $50 per year.

I own quite a few short ones such as:
Sc.am
Ex.am
Gu.am - GeoHack
Yu.ma - City in Arizona
Dra.ma
Div.as
Der.by
and many others.

I have development plan for all my hacks I mentioned above. I didn't know how I'm going to develop Cr.am so I decided to put it in auction.

Got to share this, JesusChri.st has a new Alexa weekly total of:

1,411,401
:cy:

Obviously it will take a couple of months for the 3 month ranking to catch up, but I can wait.

For those who still think an HDN cannot make is a table showing it against others in the same type (JesusChri.st is in the table as I show it with both 'weekly' and '3 monthly' ratings).

Domain/Website...............Alexa 3 month Rank

Bible.com..........................................20,466
Bible.org...........................................35,521
God.com.........................................197,951
Jesus.com.......................................324,088
Christ.com.......................................710,798
JesusChrist.com................................716,198
JesusChri.st...................................1,411,401 (latest Alexa 'weekly' rank)
JesusChrist.net..............................1,927,274
Christ.info.....................................2,810,921
Bible.net.......................................2,863,044
God.org........................................3,129,509
God.net........................................4,635,569
Jesus.net......................................5,113,519
JesusChrist.org...............................5,923,622
Jes.us...........................................6,192,460
Christ.org......................................7,094,046
Jesus.info......................................9,415,272
Chri.st.........................................16,040,457
JesusChri.st..................................19,962,646 (latest Alexa '3 month' rank)
JesusChrist.info.............................24,976,497

No Alexa ranking listed for:

Bible.info
God.info
Jesus.org
Christ.net

Now obviously there will be fluctuation in the Alexa ranking, but after 10 days I think this is remarkable and will lay to bed the claim that HDN's cannot get ranked or get the visitors. A good site with a memorable address (whether an HDN or not) will get the traffic.

I have put JesusChri.st up for sale on Sedo so now to see if anybody makes an offer on it, that is the real marker of success or not!
