Calling people terrorist isn't the winning argument you think it is.

I don't know who is "you" in that sentence but this is the governments putting them on the terrorist lists. You have to ask yourself why. But that is going off topic. So lets stop here.

You and the ambassador through the word around on a regular basis. If you want to deny it, @ in the politics thread.

Good point. For balance, I would like more people to defend Epik's interests in this thread. In a rational way. But I also have to conclude that by now many people seem to be very concerned about what has happened to them. Is there a lively discussion about it on the other forum that you know of?

They're literally government designated terrorists here :)

I'm not here to defend epik and have no desire to do so. I'm also not pretending the hack was for some greater good.

My point is the accusation is meaningless. Our governments call anyone they don't like terrorist while giving pardons / commutations to actual terrorist who have killed people.

There is nothing good about this whole mess. I am pretty pissed that my info was scraped and my account login was not protected. But for many others it was much worse. Your reasoning makes no sense. On the one hand you are offended that someone wrote that the hack was a public service, on the other you are defending the extremist groups on E that were exposed to the world. This is messed up.

@ArchCityAnon2

If these security problems continue to bother you, you might want to talk to Cybermarks.

"We also have started a company that you might have come across called Cybermarks, and it is a cybersecurity boutique." (Epik CEO)

That might have been an idea before this data breach, but who is going to trust Epik with anything to do with cybersecurity now?

I also like how the account has tweets like this, like they are not just actually Epik -

I'm not offended. You and Kirtaner are gloating. You here complaining about your information being made public and acting like anonymous did a good thing.

This the last post on the topic. If you want to keep going go to politics.

I can well imagine that, and you can argue about it substantively. Such discussions already take place continuously in the cyber security world and that is fine. Attackers and defenders most often have the same knowledge (skillset), but use it in different ways. The possible motives for this specific Epik hack (compromise) -- which I think can be taken as fact -- I find very interesting to understand. It will probably have little to do with the double parking in front of an Epik office by one of our new members. In this thread, participants have looked at crucial moments in Epik's history, and at whether the company has adjusted its business operations as a result of certain events. It has been noted that there is a mixed clientele and that the company has changed course considerably in recent years. Personally, I am very interested in all of this, and my interest not only applies to the Epik company, it also applies to other incidents that take place daily at many many companies. Still, I think this is a unique case for several reasons.

Where did I gloat? You seem that you cannot get past the fact that neo-nazis and white supremacist groups are put on domestic terrorist lists. People that espouse hatred, bigotry, post videos of mass shootings (hosted on Epik servers btw) then deny that it happened, killer that posted his manifesto on a site hosted on Epik. You can say that that last site has been later deplatformed by Epik. But when you give haven to this type of culture, you court very dangerous behavior and dialogue. Eventually something bad is going to happen, directly or indirectly.

Those info graphics are lit.
How long would it take a hacker to brute force your password?
Is this a rhetorical question or a CTF?
If it is a challenge what is out of scope?
It feels like a challenge.
The biggest vulnerability in any system is the arrogance of the person that posts garbage like this
GTFO w/ 7quadrillion years
Are the passwords stored in plaintext along with 300gb of data that could be used in a word list?
Can GPUs be used?
Are the passwords Unsalted?
Can we use the kid from Jerry McGuire?
I guess what I am trying to ask is can Cybermarks give me a definition of what they think a Brute force attack is? Boutique kind of lends to the idea of sophisticated, so do I understand it correctly when this service is being touted as Sophisticated Cybersecurity?

Its not a parody, although it should be. Or at least a meme.

It is management/beltway speak. A pomme frite is still a French fry (or chip) but it sounds more exotic and expensive in French. :)

Putting a target on your back and then daring the hackers is not helpful.

Imagine how many holes are in those hundreds of source trees

Attackers usually need just 1 to succeed. Defenders have to protect them all. It's unfair.

Tell you what.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "billionaire, freedom-minded guy" currently investing in Epik is in Mr. Trump's circles.

"We raised a significant amount of money not that long ago, from a billionaire, freedom-minded guy. No board seat, common stock, and so in other words he just wants to empower people to basically have the opportunity to search for truth and to do the right thing." (Epik CEO)

"And then in June of this year, we raised $32 million." (Epik CEO)

Thread bans to follow.
We rarely use thread bans, and fair warning was given, but sometimes they're necessary when all else fails.

In any event:

All thread bans have been removed from this thread.

Let's see if we can have a civil discussion without them.

We hope so.

I see, there could have been a gag order if it was a national security letter. That's interesting, and actually does make sense here.

I think the FBI inquiries were related to the two websites promoting Trump, as published on the America.win website (see the announcement below).

There were 2 .win sites involved and the relation with Epik is mentioned in this document:
