Hi there - thank you for the reply. So far I have deleted four domains I have registered because although I thought they were a good idea at the time and they were safe to register the more I thought about them I was not so sure. I of course have lost the money I paid to register them so I thought why not pay an experienced person to look at them before I register. I really dont need the hassle.

Safe - I mean - not run into any legal issues over trademarks. I find it a very grey area.

At the moment I have been bitten by the VR/ AR bug and want to buy domains in that area.

As examples - (please also see my other thread) And - would

Purchasevr.com or Marketingvr.com - be "safe" ?

Hi - I am still trying to get my head around what you can and cannot do I have checked the following on Trademarkia and UK Gov TM site and Tess - BUT only as far as I can.

T/ Markia says they may be available - so can anyone see why I cannot register the following:

Vr Memberships.com , best vr memberships .com
Vr game subsription.com , best vr subscriptions.com , cheap vr subscriptions

You can check the US Trademark office, TESS and Trademarkia which covers a large chunk of the worlds trademarks. You are never going to going to get a 100% watertight worldwide security level, because these only cover registered trademarks, and mostly only covers US and Europe. If you want more security you need a Trademark Lawyer. Which is going to costs your thousands of GBP. If a search of TESS, Trademarkia, and UK for your prospective TM searches, and nothing comes up, then I would be confident enough to register the domain in those locations.

Because you are a new user. We have no idea of your domaining level. But registering trademarks as domain names is fraught with difficulty. As you are experiencing. Trying to register unregistered trademarks is a chasm which could be lined with gold or bankruptcy. As a noob. I would not recommend it as a path to riches. I'd say quite the opposite.

"Safe" is subjective if you mean something to do with legality. Just having one person's opinion would be irrelevant unless they offer some actual legal protection, like paying your expenses if sued.

"VR" is basically a generic term with a generic use, unless you manually make it a problem like "VR Disney" or something like that.

I dont get it - Didnt someone just pay a fortune for "Marketing". Why would they do that if someone like me can come along and buy Marketing VR . com or any other type of marketing.

I will do - Trademarkia, UkGov TM check and Tess. I am never quite sure Tess is giving me a full answer.

Go to https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks, click on Search Trademarks, and click on "Search our Trademark Database (TESS)" link, click on the "Basic Word Mark Search (New User), click on Live option and enter your search term and click on Submit Query. That's it.

On your example of Marketing and Marketing VR you don't give us enough information to make a call. You need to explain what Trademark does Marketing have and what trademark you intend to use on Marketing VR. Just on the face of it, I'd say you'd be good to go. But in all fairness, there is way to little to go on.

Seriously are you the end user? Any domain investors want to find good names for me cheap? What skill are you offering? We are offering ability to pick and choose names. Name a subject and i will flat fee you names but at a lot more than reg fee.
I can buy the most relevant name as i did relevantname.com

"Marketing" is one of the top business related keywords in existence. No one person or entity can own a term like that. If that was the case business would not be possible and nothing would have any competition.

marketing.com was sold last few weeks for a crazy low 2.5 million. I would have bidded my balls.

Yeah, it was an incredible buy for the buyer IMO, especially if they have plans for it.

If you have a good idea (the domain is technically available), then you should not share this domain if it still free. Somebody else may register it instead. Just do the all the homework before (USPTO etc). You may however use a regstrar which provides an opportunity to delete fresh regged domains (< 5 days old) for a small fee (Dynadot.com for example). If and only if the domain is yours - then post it here, and, if the community opinion would be "no" - delete the domain for a refund

Apologies if this off the mark .......I thought possible reasons to have a good domain name were along the lines of - its memorable, looks trustworthy, is brandable - and so builds a loyal customer base that keep coming back and - "Its all about the traffic" You cant have a website - Marketing.com because no one would search for marketing.com . Surely niching it down is better or having a brandable word you can build on - Amazon, google, apple.

I am not sure I would just classify terms like Amazon or Apple as some random brandable, like Google is. Even if the companies did not exist, those domains would likely sell for more than Marketing.com did.

Also, any domain can be branded with enough money and effort. The benefit of a domain like Marketing.com is that it is a business in a box. It doesn't need all that much advertising to "brand".

It is like owning Business.com or something. The domain itself has so much value that it establishes instant credibility in the field.
