Sav sold my domain for a mere $3

My domain alievi.com was sold for mere $3 although I listed it for $3,499. I was not even notified that there was a bid. I just received the email that it was sold for $3. I asked them to cancel the sale, they said they could not do something about it.

Was it an auction with no reserve? Have to be careful about that.

I actually don't like auctions, prefer to avoid them but would only do one if ever a reserve.

I probably made a mistake, I'm not sure. I could have mistakenly clicked Start Auction button instead of the Buy Now button.

There is no reserve price can be put by seller if you start an auction and it will start with just $1 and most domains end up well within $5 range..
I also lost one bitcoin domain sometime back in auction for just $3 and i stopped using their system..Actually i did an experiment with one domain and it turned out worst..

I noticed something similar with some of my Sav domains lately, but in my case, my unexpectedly sold domain(s) were expired domains. Whereas yours <alievi.com> had/has registration time available. Please keep us posted if/when you get an official explanation or resolution.

@Nick R -- Is Sav testing or did I miss an announcement regarding Sav splitting expired auction proceeds with the registrant?

I just joined Sav in September. But I will no longer register there. Transferring a domain into Sav takes weeks. So I would probably move my domains out of Sav months before its expiry or else my domain will be in trouble of being deleted or whatever problem it might encounter.

Hello @Jeffrey . I did a take a look into this domain and see that an no reserve auction was started for the domain. To try to make this more clear, we do require all users to click this check box in addition to the Start Auction button:

We are always working on making this more process more clear and will share this example with the team when we make the next round of UI updates.

@Chris Hydrick - Expired domains should not be showing up in the sales export. Ill log a bug on our end to remove these from the UI.

@Nick R -- I'm a bit confused. Are you saying I don't have an available payout balance from expired domains?

It happened again this morning:

Reserves suck.

Sav doesnt allow you to cancel auctions.

Dont set no-reserve auctions at Sav lol

@Chris Hydrick Thanks for letting me know. I'll take a look and see why that is incorrectly happening for expired domains. The previous owner of the expired domain will not get a payout for expired auction.

How do I opt in to receive payouts for my expired domains? I don't understand why I am receiving emails saying such if this is not the case.

Error or not, this is/would be a nice feature, that may help Sav be seen as a domainer friendly registrar, rather than the massive (error ridden?) headaches sav inflicts upon many of its users. At least with expired auction payouts, the headaches could be somewhat justified/more easily tolerated.

Most probably that's a feature only available to a very select crowd. Those mails should only go to the 'inner circle' I suspect.

I hope that is not true.

btw, Chris and Samer having the same ava can get confusing.... lol

I’m sorry …did you have couple bidders on the domain or just one ?

Hello All - We give all users up to 30 day to renew any expired domain and allow them to start an auction for the domain, when the domain is active, at almost any time. After 30 days post expiration Sav does start an expiring auction for the domain before releasing it back to the registry and that revenue is used exclusively by Sav to provide lower domain registration costs, at times even below the wholesale amount. I was able to find a few examples of incorrectly configured expiring auctions that gave a payout to the previous user and have fixed that moving forward.

If you look into who own/backs/funds SAV you'll notice some stuff.

The errors mentioned all over this forum are an indication (yet still a guess) they're running 2 backends which are only party integrated, hence the config errors, domains disappearing etc. Lots of manual fixing. Bugs I see happening all the time with similar setups.

Again, just a guess.

@Nick R Even auction that doesnt have bids yet cannot be cancelled?

Once an auction is started, it can not be cancelled. We require sellers to check a box acknowledging this each and every time they start an auction. We believe that this policy makes a better experience for the bidders which helps the platform grow. In turn, this can help seller more domains for a higher amount.
