This may be interesting... think it is a trend?

A little context. Is this .CA sales from the past few months?

Looks like the graph from Namebio.com

:xf.grin::xf.grin::xf.cool:

Obviously, but of WHAT?

Overall domain sales? .CA sales? .CA single-words? LLL's?

WHC.ca is currently running a promo where you can buy up to 5 .CA domains for $2.99 each (code BEAVERCA), but...

!! WATCH OUT !!

I just placed an order for 5 domains at $16.89, and authorized that amount on my credit card but received an invoice and a trumped-up charge on my CC for $56.44 (regular $9.99 price per domain). :xf.eek::xf.eek::shifty::punch:

if there is a domainer on the jury you will walk:)

And it seems to be a widespread problem, so anyone who bought .CA domains through the promo needs to check their final invoice to confirm the actual amount charged.

The new CIRA site redesign is an unmitigated disaster, and I cannot believe a registry would do this.

1) The new WHOIS page is virtually unusable. Instead of the clean format found on every other registry, the CIRA has added all kinds of useless and idiotic text and images that clutters up the page, relegating the actually WHOIS entry field to a sliver of a sidebar, which not only needs to be scrolled down, but also defaults to a "suggested alternatives" tab, rather than the WHOIS info tab you were looking for.

2) The TBR page is a cluttered mess, with the above-the-fold area filled with "Domains for Dummies" text like "What is TBR", amusing caricatures of white guys in lumberjack shirts typing on laptops, and huge empty white sections filled with gibberish like "Scoop up the .CA domain you always wanted". By the time you wade through all that crap to get to the actual TBR names are (2 page downs), you've probably given up finding any TBR names.

The new site is designed ass-backwards, and the "above the fold" area, where the actual information should be, is instead jam-packed with useless filler that forces you to scroll and scroll to get anywhere, and good luck with using Home to get back to the data entry fields, as that will just push you to the top of the useless gibberish section again.

The WHOIS page design must have taken a special person with a wide range of developmental issues to construct, because it's just about the worst thing I've ever seen. Check this out:

Here is the WHOIS screen you are greeted with. Then you need to find the tiny sidebar entry field just below the fold (you can see its top-edge right at the bottom of the screen cap) and enter in a .CA domain for WHOIS info:

cira_1.jpg

*In future screen caps I have cut out the massive CIRA Top Menu area for brevity, which probably takes up about 15% of each screen

Then you scroll down a bit further to see the WHOIS data, which naturally is not there, as the CIRA is trying to make a few bucks on the side by linking to .CA registrars with "Suggested Alternatives".

cira_2.jpg

In order to actually get and view the WHOIS data you requested in the first place, you need to click the other "Domain Info" tab, and are greeted with this tiny sidebar marvel of design:

cira_3.jpg

Uh oh, the tiny sidebar isn't displaying any WHOIS data yet because it's TOO FREAKING THIN!! Better go down another page...

cira_4.jpg

Finally, some actual WHOIS info, and it only took multiple clicks and several page down key-presses. Wow, quite the evolutionary design. But if I want to see it all in that ultra-thin sliver of a sidebar, yep, page down again.

cira_5.jpg

Wait, there's still more... Page Down!

cira_6.jpg

Still not there yet...

cira_7.jpg

Previously, you would go to a standard WHOIS screen with an Entry Field at the very top, type in the Domain Name, and then get the data on one full screen. No sidebar, no entry field below the fold, no multiple clicks, no multi-page scrolling.

But this much better, eh?

Here is what you are greeted with when you view the "new and unimproved" TBR section of the CIRA site:

cira_8.jpg

Pretty funny huh? It's a smiling white dude... with a natty haircut + beard... in a lumberjack shirt... looking at Maple Leafs and weird symbols on his laptop.

In case anyone forgot, where that white guy in the lumberjack shirt is sitting used to be a sortable list of actual (gasp) TBR Domains. Yes Virginia, actual important data displayed "above the fold".

My only question is, where's the Maple Syrup??? And the TBR Domains???

So we continue to scroll down to the next page, still looking for the actual TBR Domains we've been promised, but it turns out to be a HUGE WHITE SPACE with this oh-so-integral information on it:

cira_9.jpg

No wasted space there, eh?

And about now we're all feeling a bit like this....

Looks great on mobile.

It's certainly not great, as it still has tons of problems (the TBR page is unusable on Mobile) but the WHOIS page seems to be designed as a Mobile Site, as the sliver-sized sidebar fits the phone portrait mode, while it's a horrible thin-ass kludge in a Desktop or Laptop environment.

But it still doesn't fix any of the inherent problems, and it just "looks better" visually.

If you think the new sites works so great on a phone, go to the TBR page and tell me what you think. I can't can't even use it on mobile portrait mode, as it doesn't scroll to the side at all and is locked at a partial cut-off screen.

To anyone who bid on TBR auction at Siber/WHC, please check your own Sibername preorders against the TBR Results or WHOIS, as the "TBR Results" email you received was probably incorrect and listed Siber/WHC TBR wins in the "We could not register the following TBR domains for you" section.

If you find discrepancies, email Sibername Support immediately, as there seems to be a major TBR snafu on their system this week and we need to let them know the level of damage.

Lets do something about it then. As i said were members of this “ not for profit” organization. These fat cats are filling their pockets and belly with yours and my money.
Tbr havent been there in years. If you say it doesnt display right, good enough. Unless we do something other than chit chat our butt hurts here, nothing will change.
Go enquire and find out what member benefits there are. Ask them for all financials. There in same boat as afternic, customers arent happy, who cares, we made a profit

Wow, that sound you just heard was a squadron of jets flying over your head.

It was a TBR Hint for the domain FIRESTARTER.CA that just dropped yesterday - I thought it was pretty clear, but obviously not.

OMG the sky is falling !

At almost 300 picks a week, someone is guaranteed to be losing a lot of money, especially at the prices being paid at auction.

If you think otherwise, then good luck with that. LOL

It looks like we may be weeding out the Pandemic Petes a bit, as the TBR picks dropped noticeably to *only* 235 last week, which is still much higher than the market can bear.

I would remind people that pre-pandemic, 60 picks was a good week and even getting close to 100 was viewed as a hot list filled with premiums - and no one was becoming a millionaire on those numbers. These days, the TBR Results include lots of domains that wouldn't even be hand-registered in the pre-pandemic era.

The .CA resale market is much, much, much too small (and cheap) to support 300 TBR picks a week, or even 200, and I think people are slowly starting to grasp this concept.

Buying domains is easy, it's selling them that's hard, and this adage is doubly true with .CA.

P.S. The CIRA has cleaned up virtually all the issues with their "site redesign" and it's actually useable right now. No need to thank me, just send money. :xf.grin:
