Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

Someting is wrong either with Afternic in general, or Afternic-Uniregistry integration in particular.

After Uni was acquired by GD and until recently:

If the domain existed in Uni database, it is/was no more possible to directly add it to afternic. And, the Uni forsale status was irrelevant. One had to remove the domain from Uni before trying to add it to afternic. OK, let it so be...

Recently, something was changed:

A few days ago I performed a routine "conflicts check" @ Uni for a bunch of new domains. As usual, I added all the batch to Uniregistry (did not list for sale). After a few days, Uniregistry checked and resolved any and all duplicates/ownership conflicts. I immediately deleted all the batch from Uni, as I do not use them for sales or parking anymore.

The problem is that Afternic (or Uniregistry?) never "unfreezed" these domains within Afternic. If I try to add any of the domains in question to Afternic now - it would still show errors, after 2+ days! Affected domains are only those which I recently added to / deleted from Uni.

Yeah, I can send this list (a few dozens) to service@ afternic and they will take care of it. Maybe in 1 day, maybe in 2 weeks.

However, Afternic might want to check whether Uniregistry intergration is working as it is supposed to...

@Joe Styler - tagging just in case : )

This thread is also about fixes.

I'm noticing that response times from Afternic Support have greatly improved, lately. Thanks for that.

PS, a more neutral thread title like "Afternic.com Domain Marketplace (Official Thread)" would be beneficial to continuous discussion, idea sharing, help, and improvement of the Afternic product. Often I'd like to share not only problems, but can't find a good thread for this. Some other marketplaces and registrars already have more neutral thread titles, and interactions there are more diverse. Good thread titles make a difference. @Joe Styler perhaps you can request such a change with namepros.

It's not possible to access Afternic from Russian IPs. Forced to use vpn.
BTW, there is no IPs problems with GD.

We do block some IPs you would have to contact [email protected] with your account info and IP you are using for them to check your specific IP.

My provider gives me different IP every new time, when I load computer. But anyway these are IPs from Russian location.
F.e. Now my IP is 178.187.245.248

And I got from Afternic the following message:
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access afternic.com on this server.

SyntaxError: invalid regexp group

This dated control panel has become nearly broken on chrome if editing prices, have to do it several times for it to go through, sometimes have to wait about 10-15 seconds for a domain to load when searching it or won't load at all. After editing a price it'll change back to the old price once right after you click 'submit'.

Really looking forward to this update because as it stands everything is getting worse, slower, buggier.

In July/August, a new issue appeared. Some fast transfer sales are never processed. I have to struggle with afternic asking them to receive(!) sold domain(s) in one way or another. TA does not respond in timely fashion (or at all), service@ do respond but they can do nothing except escalating the tickets to TA :(. In the best case scenario, after a week or so TA asks to unlock the domain and give them authcode, and it would be stalled again for 1-2 weeks until the manual transfer is initiated.

Has anyone experienced this?

Nope. Which registrar are you using?

Domains in question are with NameSilo. All accepted for fast transfer, no executive locks or anything. The successful manual transfer ended up at NetSol. Other sold domains are still with namesilo, unlocked and waiting to be transferred manually... So, what registrar (or registrars) sold them via fast transfer is not yet known. There was a similar problem a few years ago, also with NetSol fast transfer. So it is my impression that something many not be working on NetSol end...

Well obviously they can answer this best.

Just some thoughts, I'm going to assume there's something wrong with the fast transfer from Namesilo. Perhaps they also kinda expect it would go through by itself in such case and it doesn't. I'd doubt there is something specific to your account but who knows how their tech is made.

I have a few names at NS but didn't have any sales on those so I can't tell if there's something wrong with NS integration. But with Dynadot, Sav, InternetBS where I have names, everything is definitely working vs. fast transfer, see the loads of sales I've reported. So it's clearly not a general issue.

any _to_ Netsol?

Nope. None so far. Perhaps someone else did an would jump in with an answer.

Note, Afternic fast transfer has retries so if transfer fails they retry shortly. So it's most likely not an Afternic issue, I think.

Between Namesilo and Netsol, since its a receiving issue... guess you might get closer to an answer.

Yeah, I asked namesilo. They checked sold domains 1-by-1. No administrative locks (which they would set in case of UDRP for example), all domains are fine, and there were no transfer-out requests logged by namesilo. So, namesilo cannot do anything else - the domains are ready, but the selling registrar (which happened to be netsol in 1 finished case) simply does not send fast transfer requests.

OK, if the buyer elected to use Network Solutions, he must live with the consequences of that choice. But, it still makes both myself (the seller) and Afternic looking bad in buyers eyes...

I had the same issue with two domains. I approved the transfer manually on both of them.
Almost a month later one domain was processed without me doing anything, the other one is still being processed even though it was sold and transferred almost two months ago.
I sent an email on Friday to service@afternic and they told me they would look at it, still nothing has happened...

Afternic recently started to send transaction-related emails on HTML only format.

However, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML_email is teaching us:

Security vulnerabilities

HTML allows a link to be displayed as arbitrary text, so that rather than displaying the full URL, a link may show only part of it or simply a user-friendly target name. This can be used in phishing attacks, in which users are fooled into believing that a link points to the website of an authoritative source (such as a bank), visiting it, and unintentionally revealing personal details (like bank account numbers) to a scammer.

If an email contains web bugs (inline content from an external server, such as a picture), the server can alert a third party that the email has been opened. This is a potential privacy risk, revealing that an email address is real (so that it can be targeted in the future) and revealing when the message was read.

HTML content requires email programs to use engines to parse, render and display the document. This can lead to more security vulnerabilities, denial of service or low performance on older computers.

During periods of increased network threats, the US Department of Defense converts all incoming HTML email to text email.

I, for one, configured my e-mail software not to display or process html. It is business email and security is critical.

Would afternic be so kind to either:

1) Allow email format preference to be set from afternic account (html vs plain text)

2) Revert back to sending emails in Content-Type: multipart/alternative format, including both text version and html version is message body (so those clients who ignore html will still see the content).

I'm pleased that Afternic added 2FA, so now I'm willing to list domains on a Fast Transfer basis at Afternic. And I noticed they have improved the form for contacting support - it now has a specific dropdown for reporting domains stuck in In Review Status.

Amazingly, those In Review support requests seemed to get acted on in a matter of hours now, not many many days like it used to be. A big improvement, thanks.

One issue I'll flag up people might want to be aware of - it seems sometimes changing a price on a domain bumps it into In Review status, so you might want to check the status of individual domains after you modify them.

Sadly, it seems there is still no quick way to go through your listings to locate domains that are In Review - you have to go through endless pages each showing max 50 domains per page. It isn't just inconvenient, it is likely keeping domains In Review and costing sales - this could easily be fixed by showing more domains per page or fixing the search/filter functions.

There is an easy way to see your domains that are in review. Go to Domain Portfolio ---> In Review.
