Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Facebook’s bet on virtual reality is likely bigger than you think—and it may be hiding the true profitability of the company’s core social media business.

That’s the take Monday morning from Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney. In a detailed research note, he asserts that Facebook (ticker: FB) is on track to sell more than eight million Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headsets in their first year. (The Quest 2 was launched in October.) He thinks investors do not fully appreciate the size of Facebook’s investment in VR."

I miss the conversations and discussions that used to happen on this thread. I was mostly an observer but it was very exciting.

When I first joined in Dec 2016 I was a total noob to domaining (and still am, still to make a x,xxx sale) and VR and it was all going to happen in 3-5 years.

As we approach the 5 year mark since I joined are people still as enthusiastic about the AR/VR niche?

I was just watching a video from Mark Zuckerberg on VR/AR (I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea) and I can’t help think things are just about to take off big time.

After Covid and after just watching the video i can’t help but feel incredibly positive about this space. I think VR/AR’s time is drawing near.

It took time for the technology itself to evolve and become compact, and for people to get used to this new trend.

As someone who has been actively involved in the IT industry for more than 10 years; I think the XR field needs quite a while to optimise and increase awareness.

I've done a gentleman's agreement with a well known person in the USA to sell an AR domain name in the $xx,xxx range.

He said he will be ready to conclude the purchase in 90 days.

So there are rare companies looking to jump into Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality at this early stage still.

I still believe in the tech, but if I’m perfectly honest if I could go back I wouldn’t invest in virtual tech domain names at all, some people seem to bang out sales such as MetaverseBranding above, but speaking from own experience, they are an hard sell.

Do I think I’ll still make money on ‘some’ of my investments? Yes! But they are investments I didn’t need to make and some I overpaid like crazy for.

But it was all a learning curve, I’ve been involved in 6 figure deals in the past year (both buying and selling) and this wouldn’t have happened without investing in virtual tech, so they was mistakes I needed to make.

I agree with what you say. But I think if you believe in the tech then the naming side of things still should come good when the tech reaches its potential.

It's just the "how long" part which is obviously frustrating. Being honest I thought we would be further ahead by now than we are.

Agree, miss the conversations on this board from the past. That said, two things are still happening. VR is still growing, with stand alone HMD's a game changer and .com market is stronger than ever. The average selling price for VR on namebio is slowly rising every year.
