GoDaddy Auctions Warning (Unauthorized listings)

NameSilo
Watch
Check your "GoDaddy auctions account" for unauthorized listings, some kind of a glitch is making old listing come back as well as list domains added to your Afternic account, without your consent nor knowledge, even worse prices set by Goddayy might be old prices you might have set years back.

I personally found 2 domains that were NEVER added by myself, I was told several times (after the Aft/GD merge) that Afternic ruled the price system and it was the primary used across all the Godaddy properties.

I heard of a case where a domain was sold via GD Auctions and the domainer is being forced to surrender the domain name

There is no Uniformity as far as prices between Afternic/Godaddy and Godaddy Auctions.

Greed.

Godady is a mess.

Lately... apparently the phone customer support (Domain Aftermarket) is also going away in the U.S.,

Greed.

Godaddy Auctions is taking every domain listed @ Afternic and regardless of your BIN / Floor / Reserve / Min offer, the Godaddy Auctions sys/algo will go with min BID +/- 30% less. If your BIN is $20K, the Min BID is 30% less (+/- $6.5K) or if your Reserve is f.e. $14K the min BID is $1K less ($13K) - at least. Etc.

Double check your Afternic listings @ auctions.godaddy.com

Regards

OP, what's the easiest way to check for unauthorized listings?

Log into your auctions account and click on the Selling Tab, and also check your Pending Tab. If you had any listed you would have most likely received their auto reply emails asking you to update DNS on the names.

Apparently, the link only works if you are logged in (apologies) here is the original top post from April 10, 2021.:

Seems just a brief glitch. I noticed this happened a few days ago while listing some names. Nearly a dozen names I no longer own showed up in my pending listings tab, then I starting receiving their auto reply emails requesting to update DNS to enable the listings. I just ignored it all and within a day the names vanished as mysteriously as they showed up.

I won a Godaddy auction last week. It was my first bid for LLLL in .com. This week Godaddy sent the email saying auction was void. To be fair Godaddy did refund it pretty sharpish. Minus $ 7 transaction fees. At least somebody's making money.

Ask the current registrant if Godaddy Auctions was authorized to offer this domain.

It may have been renewed by the owner. That's a very common occurrence.

I don't think ppl understand what's going on - let's illustrate;
Afternic: BIN $65000, min offer $9000
GD Auctions: BIN $65000, min offer (aka BID) $42250

Can I contact Godaddy support before placing an order to make sure that the listing is real and not fake? That way I'd not be wasting time and losing transaction fees to the third party payments processing company.

You can sure try. Email [email protected]

Don't waste time calling or using chat.

If the name at Godaddy auction is hosted by Godaddy not another registrar does that make it more likely you can have a successful auction. Or does is make no difference really?

The only difference I can think of is that the buyer/winner would receive the name quicker.

I don't see what GoDaddy would be able to tell you. The number of last-minute redemptions is down since they changed the dates, but GoDaddy can't tell you if the previous owner is going to pay the redemption fee or grab it back. This has happened to me like 80% less than it did in previous years.

It's frustrating. But if they waited until there was 0 chance of being grabbed back by the registrant, there'd be no time for the auctions.
