Whenever a thread is created for a domain sale of any significant sum, NamePros members come along and mention that they hold a similar domain. Perhaps the exact same name in a different extension, or a similar domain with a few letters added or removed, or a misspelling of the domain.

It has come to my attention that a few members disapprove of this practice. However, this practice has been the norm for a long time, and any SOLD thread includes a few examples of members mentioning that they own similar domains, to the tune of thousands of such posts over time at this forum.

It goes without saying that any similar domain name mentioned is unsold and for sale. That’s not the point.

I have no problem with this practice so long as it is not an explicit attempt to sell the domain to NamePros members. I mean obviously the mere mention of one's domain is always promotion, but again, I have no problem with that. It just seems natural to mention that I own "so and so" domain, when a big sale of a similar domain is mentioned.

How do others feel?

Examples, from the Eth.co sold for $300,000! thread:

Congratulations to seller !
I own EthCasino.co

Good news for some of the crypto domains in my portfolio.

CryptoPayBank. com
CryptoMicroBank. com
CryptoMoneyLender. com
Eth. in
Eth20. co
Eth20. in
CryptomBank. com

etc. etc.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have no problem with the practice. I generally see it as self promotion and not necessarily spamming, though some members are guilty of the latter.

Hi

i'd say, per examples given that....

when the news of the sale, gets lost in the postings of "related" names...
then the thread has lost it's intent and becomes a "showcase" thread.

imo....

I think that in most cases it adds little value and is therefore not desirable. It takes brain cycles from all of us to read it. It's not educational and we can't do anything with the information in practice. Most of these postings belong in another section of namepros.
