Just avoid Godaddy Auctions, man.

tend avoid all auctions, except NP in general ; )

ebay has better deals than NoDaddy Auctions.
-Their closeouts are usually delivered 1-2 week those’re the only GD product worth it imo

I voted no and then remembered one that did not complete about a year ago. For me it has been less than a half percent rate.

I have purchased 3 or 4 domains in the past year that they have not been able to transfer the domain after the sale.

Also It seems every other week I see a domain I own up for sale on GoDaddys Auction site.

In both situations they can never explain why. Worthless customer support and getting answers.

@Chaz1 that is very interesting :o did you recently acquire the domains you see on gd auctions ?
i can't imagine someone bypassed their tedious ownership verification

I purchased the domain at 7:02 am this morning and received the purchase receipt for the domain. At 7:02 pm I received the notice the domain had been cancelled, but the domain still shows for sale as of right now. Support can not explain anything to me. I have raised this to the highest levels of their support. They are stumped. This is not the first time an incident like this has happened to me.

Thanks for getting Joe Involved. Also, I had issues with Afternic/Godaddy. Notices from Afternic to ok fast transfer of some of my domains when I have not even listed them for sale on Afternic. Someone else listed some of my domains for sale. Once again no one can ever explain why this is happening. Very Frustrating!

Thank God I have 2 Factor Authentication on my accounts and Afternic just implemented it. I put a request in a year ago for them to step up their security.

@Chaz1 i have this problem when buying aftermarket domains such problems are hard to avoid
it becomes an issue of you the buyer having to verify with the previous owner to remove the names from the any marketplace listed i had problems like this with dan sedo afternic godaddy uniregistry and more

usually is solved within a day or two of contacting support

now back to your no fulfillment thingy once again users are at fault not removing domains they sold elsewhere sure some system can be put in place to stop this like monthly check up on every user having to verify ownership on all of his listed domains but then it will make the listing process more tedious :D

If someone renews a name you won't get the name, this is how it works everywhere unless the name is already gone from the owners account.

If GD lists names from other registrars and that registrar did not report in time that the name has been renewed you will not get the name.

If you didn't get a name there is a good reason, not a grand conspiracy or system malfunction.

I don't get the point of this poll. This could happen with all the platforms when the owner renews the domain the auction/delivery is cancelled. Since GD is the biggest player it's normal to have the highest rate.

Agree with @AEProgram and @iAdam here.

The worrysome part may be that Support was not able to explain this to OP with the same wording. At least, that's what I understand from this thread.

Please take the poll. I am very curious how many domain buyers have purchased a domain from GoDaddy Auctions and they have not fulfilled the purchase? YES or NO. - Thank you for your support! Please take the survey both here and on Linkedin.

I don't get this poll either. Have you read the Auctions Membership Agreement?

https://godaddy.com/legal/agreements/auctions-membership-agreement

"GoDaddy provides a venue and a transaction facilitation process. GoDaddy is not an auctioneer or an escrow agent. Although the process occurs in an “auction-style” format, GoDaddy is not the owner of the domain names listed on the website. As result, GoDaddy has no control over the quality, safety or legality of the domain names listed. Domain names listed may be withdrawn at any time by Seller or by GoDaddy."

Yeah. After 2 - 30 min calls while they did their research, they still could not provide an answer.

If you buy a car at an automobile auction....do you not get the car at the end of the auction?

If you go to a business liquidation sale ..... do you not get the business equipment you purchased when the auction is over?

Why start an auction if an asset is not available. Vapor Auctions?

Thank you for the info. The point of the survey is to understand if GoDaddy Auctions is a worthwhile place to bid on domains that are at Auction. I think most experienced and new domainers would like to know if GoDaddy's Auction platform is worth their time. Why use an Auction platform if Auctioneer can not deliver on the product advertised?

If you don't use GD auctions you will miss a lot of amazing opportunities.

Both the deleted (anyone can catch those) and expired have many opportunities.

Some popular GD auctions today:

GrowContainers.com
RoofBuilders.com
UtopiaCapital.com
HandcraftedCandles.com
AutonomousFleets.com

The most sought after deleting names today.

HomeSystem.com
SoulsCape.com
DailyReadings.com
jjjm.com
AquaVilla.com

Does anyone know of any other product, beyond domain names, that a third party auctions the product while it is still possible for the current owner to keep the product?

I still don't understand why the auctions do not wait until the period for the owner to pay the registration has firmly passed. Well, I sort of understand, because then it would be past the registrar's control and they would not profit from the process. Still, it bothers me.

It depends on the domain name. So not getting domains you won are probably due to the original owner renewing the domain name if it was an expired auction. Usually if the domain is a GoDaddy registered domain name that expired you will get the domain at the end of the auction if there is 5 or less days in the auction to go. At that point it is normally too late to renew the domain barring some error or rare issue.

On domains that expired outside of GoDaddy there is a larger window to renew. I cannot go into it all because of NDAs with the sellers. Suffice it to say they can be renewed even after you pay in some cases. However the overall rate of that happening is very low. The poll results so far and the person saying they only have it happen about 1/2% of the time bear that out.

On names being listed for sale by someone else it seems like you are buying domains someone already owned. That unfortunately is the nature of the beast. Many times when you buy a domain name someone other than you already had it listed for sale. We are working on ways to continue to improve this. It isn't as easy as it sounds. The person who listed the domain proved it was theirs at the time they listed it and we don't always know it changed hands.

Last week I bought a domain myself at another company auction not in any way related to GoDaddy. I told one of my friends and they said why are you listing your name at Dan if you work at GoDaddy and Afternic :) I do have names listed all over the place on purpose but this name was not listed by me at Dan and I still haven't reached out to Dan to straighten it out. Dan has a good system of verification. I know how to fix it. I am a busy person (and lazy sometimes on my own portfolio, after dealing with domains all day for 10 hours for other people I dont always want to stay at the computer and fix my own domains)
As a result the name I bought is listed at Dan by someone other than me. I am sure Dan did nothing wrong, the previous owner didnt remove the listing when it sold and I havent contacted them about it yet. It is just kind of how things work when you are buying domains other investors held at some point.
We are working to make it better. The auctions and Afternic are working on ways this year to continue to refine this and make it better. The old owner should take responsibility for removing the domain when they sell it and I should as the new owner be responsible and update the status for the domain I own. The platforms should also make this easier and better and involve less friction.

Yes I agree with this. Support should be able to give you a pretty quick answer. If you email [email protected] your email will go to the auctions dept directly instead of first tier support. They should be able to clear things up pretty quickly.

Joe - thank you for the response. If you have NDA's with the Sellers and your company knows the terms of the NDA's, why is this not built into your Auction System? If you know who the Registrars are and where the domains are Registered, then you should know the terms with each Registrar (Their NDA). Seems pretty simple to me not to list a domain from a certain registrar until the domain has "officially expired" according to their NDA.

I know you can not make everyone happy with your answers, but I do applaud the response and Godaddy/ Afternic taking steps to improve their Auction Systems.

Have a Great Weekend and Thank you Again!
