Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Caught in a 'pickle,' millions of Americans might not have had an adequate response to the Covid-19 vaccine

(CNN)It was a beautiful March afternoon, and as June Tatelman walked her dog in her Boston neighborhood, she was flying high.

Tatelman had recently received her second dose of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine, and the end of the pandemic was finally in sight. Maybe soon she could play with her grandchildren and return to her volunteer work helping children in foster care. Maybe in a few months, when her husband turned 75, they could go out to a restaurant to celebrate.

As she walked, she ran into her family physician -- who killed her buzz very quickly.

To treat inflamed blood vessels in her lungs, Tatelman, 73, takes a drug that suppresses her immune system. Her doctor had been reading recent medical studies suggesting the vaccine might not work well for some people taking medications like hers.

High risk of autumn Covid surge in Europe despite drop in infections, says WHO

Covid-19 infections, hospitalisations and deaths are falling fast across Europe, but the risk of a deadly autumn resurgence remains high as societies open up and the more transmissible Delta variant advances, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said.

The warning came as new case numbers continued to plunge in most of the continent, falling in some areas to their lowest levels since August, and multiple governments, including France and Germany, relaxed restrictions further.

Urging people and governments to exercise “caution and common sense” over the summer, the WHO Europe’s regional director, Hans Kluge, said on Thursday that community transmission was still widespread and would continue as travel and social gatherings increased.

This variant is now present in 90% of new cases in the UK. Mutations are creating different symptoms.

Headache and runny nose linked to Delta variant

A headache, sore throat and runny nose are now the most commonly reported symptoms linked to Covid infection in the UK, researchers say.

Prof Tim Spector, who runs the Zoe Covid Symptom study, says catching the Delta variant can feel "more like a bad cold" for younger people.

But although they may not feel very ill, they could be contagious and put others at risk.

Anyone who thinks they may have Covid should take a test.

The classic Covid symptoms people should look out for, the NHS says, are:

--fever

--loss of smell or taste

But Prof Spector says these are now less common, based on the data the Zoe team has been receiving from thousands of people who have logged their symptoms on an app.

"Since the start of May, we have been looking at the top symptoms in the app users - and they are not the same as they were," he says.

The change appears linked to the rise in the Delta variant, first identified in India and now accounting for 90% of Covid cases in the UK.

Fever remains quite common but loss of smell no longer appears in the top 10 symptoms, Prof Spector says.

Extroverts likely to suffer higher mental health toll in Covid lockdown

Society’s most creative and entrepreneurial people are likely to have suffered a greater hit to their mental health than the rest of the UK population during Covid lockdown, according to a study of more than 5,000 people that suggested extroverts had struggled more.

Individuals with open and extrovert personalities experienced higher deterioration in their mental health than other personality types, according to research by University of Glasgow academics based on the biggest running study of its kind. Open personalities – a widely used definition of people who tend to be curious and keen to try new things – were linked with a particularly marked increase in mental health problems in January 2021. Overall, a quarter of people who had moderately open personalities showed at least one additional symptom of mental deterioration.

A new coronavirus variant is on the rise. Here's why experts are concerned

(CNN)The Delta variant is on its way to becoming the dominant strain of coronavirus in the US, raising concerns that outbreaks could hit unvaccinated people this fall.

And a new study shows the Delta variant is associated with almost double the risk of hospitalization compared to the Alpha variant.
The Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant, which is "stickier" and more contagious than the original strain of novel coronavirus, became the dominant strain in the US this spring.

Astra antibody cocktail fails to prevent COVID-19 symptoms in large trial

AstraZeneca (AZN.L) said on Tuesday a late-stage trial failed to provide evidence that its COVID-19 antibody therapy protected people who had contact with an infected person from the disease, a small setback in its efforts to find alternatives to vaccines.

The study assessed whether the therapy, a cocktail of two types of antibodies, could prevent adults who had been exposed to the virus in the past eight days from developing COVID-19 symptoms.

The therapy, AZD7442, was 33% effective in reducing the risk of people developing symptoms compared with a placebo, but that result was not statistically significant — meaning it might have been due to chance and not the therapy.

“At the time, it was scarier to be associated with Trump and to become a tool for racists”

Leading scientists in the U.S. have admitted that they originally dismissed the theory that the coronavirus could have leaked from a lab in Wuhan because they didn’t want to be associated with President Trump and his supporters, or accused of being ‘racist’ against Chinese people.

NBC news notes in a report that at least five virologists “noted that the context and circumstances of the origin debate have changed.”

The report adds that “The shift reflects how some scientists who previously avoided the topic or were quick to dismiss it are grappling with enduring uncertainties about the virus’s origin, free from the politicization that clouded such discussions during the Trump administration.”

The report cites Alina Chan, a postdoctoral associate at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard University who specializes in genetic engineering.

Chan told reporters that “there had been trepidation among some scientists about publicly discussing the lab leak hypothesis for fear that their words could be misconstrued or used to support racist rhetoric about how the coronavirus emerged.”

In other words, the orange man is bad so aligning with the orange man in any capacity was also off the table.

Scientific investigation was ditched because researchers did not want to be associated with Trump.

“At the time, it was scarier to be associated with Trump and to become a tool for racists, so people didn’t want to publicly call for an investigation into lab origins,” Chan said.

Chan is one of 18 scientists who published a letter in the journal Science last month calling for a more in-depth investigation into the virus’s origin, including the possibility of a lab leak.

Chan’s comments highlight the damage done by the relentless leftist campaign to tar everything they disagree with as ‘racist’. In this case it has likely allowed China to conduct a massive cover up of a global pandemic, as hard evidence of any lab accident will now probably have been destroyed, as recently noted by the former head of MI6.

As we previously reported, other scientists who dared to say the lab leak theory was plausible were ostracised and ignored until recently when intelligence findings revealed that workers at the Wuhan lab fell sick with COVID-19 symptoms in November 2019.

As the global pandemic unfolded, scores of scientists came forward suggesting the genome sequencing of the virus was unnatural, and should be further investigated. The lab leak theory was effectively shut down, however, when scientists led by Dr Peter Daszak “orchestrated a ‘bullying’ campaign and coerced top scientists into signing off on a letter to The Lancet journal aimed at removing blame for Covid-19 from the Wuhan lab he was funding with US money.”

Daszak, who keeps appearing as the lead figure in investigations of the research he funded with US grant money via his own organisation, reportedly used his influence to get The Lancet to publish the letter, which stated that to even suggest the lab leak theory had any credibility was equal to spreading “fear, rumours, and prejudice.”

Fresh studies are emerging almost every week now, providing more evidence supporting the lab leak hypothesis.

The Boss has laid down strict rules for attendees of Springsteen on Broadway, which reopens on 26 June at the St James theatre. I'm outside US and the politics involved. I agree that there has been a push to blame the pandemic on a lab leak, but I have not seen any smoking gun to support this.

Personally I don't buy it until I see the evidence.

I was never convinced that Iraq was developing WMD's either...

ADD: It could have been made there (wuhan) or elsewhere, but 'work' was being done there to 'improve' the strain/technology. Of course, I could be wrong.

Delta variant infecting mounting number of people in rural Kansas and Missouri

The delta coronavirus variant is infecting a mounting number of people in rural Kansas and Missouri.

The variant, first detected in India in October, was upgraded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week from a "variant of interest" to a "variant of concern." The CDC estimates the delta variant accounts for about 10% of new cases in the U.S.

Missouri had the highest percentage of the delta variant at 6.8% of reported cases as of May 22, the latest CDC data.

Data from the CDC shows high community transmission in rural parts of Missouri and Kansas -- regions already struggling with slow vaccination rates.

I wasn't sure where that info came from.

If the evidence was conclusive wouldn't ALL the experts have been unanimous in saying so by now?

I'm open to sensible discussion and reported facts that are not politically motivated, and this whole episode is a minefield. I'm not sure that we will get to the bottom of it for a long while yet, and I'm very reluctant to jump to conclusions until all the evidence is in.

Personally, I'd like to see everyone band together and defeat this disease and leave the blame game for later.

IF it came out of a lab in Wuhan, I'd naturally assume that it was an accident. Surely no state in their right mind would deliberately release something so devastating into their own community, within a few blocks of their own lab?

Agreed. But considering the totalitarian control exerted by this government it would not surprise me (let us not forget the millions in 'training' or 'reeducation' camps). Human life means little to them (unless it is their own life, of course).

Indian authorities declare ‘Delta Plus’ mutation as new coronavirus variant of concern

A new mutation of the Delta strain, dubbed ‘Delta Plus’, is spreading fast and is even more deadly, health authorities have warned.

Indian health authorities have named a mutation of the Delta strain as a new coronavirus “variant of concern”.

The so-called “Delta Plus” variant has so far been found in the Indian states of Maharashtra, where 16 cases were detected on Tuesday, as well as Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.

Genomic sequencing by Indian laboratories has confirmed the Delta Plus variant displays increased transmissibility, stronger binding to receptors of lung cells, and potential reduction in monoclonal antibody response.
