There is one popular online brand ($ 50 million worth atleast) lets say example.com and I happened to have .net version with me .... I approached the right person within company ... He asked me how much I was willing to sell it for ... I have quoted low xxxxx and haven't got any reply since .... It has been just few days ... What should I do?
I am ready to wait ...but I am interested to know how you guys would go about it..
How likely a .com owner likely to acquire .net as well?
Regards

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
it takes a board meeting and a lot of bureaucracy at a big company to allot money for a domain, if its a small company, then you should hear today or tomorrow, then followup.

Is the quoted price fine, would you have quote the same price range?

uhmm xxxxx for the .net version when they already have the .com(better extension) ,maybe xxxxx is a little over (just my opinion) 🤷🏽‍♂️

really need to know the word to determine proper value if the dot com is possessed already by the company. If its inter.com or inter.net yes. pm me the name if you want to keep it private.

If you own the .COM, the .NET is not normally needed that much.

The odds of selling some random .NET proactively for $XX,XXX are remote.

I doubt you hit the lottery here. Hopefully you dont hear from the lawyers at this $50 million company and its a generic term

@VidhataPrakash I can tell you I've done this in the past (selling the .net to a company that has their .com), and with big companies especially ...you will often be waiting a long time for a response, best with small companies

However, my success rate was poor. As @bmugford pointed out ...if you own the ".com", the incentive is small when considering the acquisition of other extensions. Plus, trademark issues

When doing outbound it is good to use sometype of email traking service. (I do not know how it is going to work after Apple´s move in blocking that pixel)
By doing so, at least it eliminates the doubt of if that email has reached that person or if it has even ever been opened a number of times, or even shared around to his or her fellows. That could mean there may be some interest, or if it has just passed unopend by lack of interest or because it has gone to the spam folder.
It really does give peace of mind.
I have had an email rolling from one device to an other, beeing opened up to 47 times (could have an margin or error or a 30% of views) like in one day in plenty of devices and ip´s like "wow wow ww this is gettig exiting". And then nothing.
As The Durfer mentioned, it can take take a board meeting... maybe lots of "blablabla" "blablabla" and at the end "ok so no interest guys, next point of the day" and case closed.

the general unmentioned rule is that dot com brings a higher value than dot net, except for obvious reasons. If its a bombshell of a dot com than the dot net is usually 10-25% of the dot com.

Very unlikely to get that kind of price on a net. Good luck.

you reached the right person got a reply you missed up when you asked for too much.
if the amount wasn't big i think he could have been the decision maker

When you say you reached the right person do they have control of the budget - Director, VP or C-Suite?

If you contacted a manager it will have to go up the ladder to a decision maker.....

Also till now I did not list the domain anywhere but seeing the cold response I listed the domain on Sedo/Afternic/Dan - May be that's why he asked me for the proof..

I don't feel comfortable with this, for you.

What information was in that screenshot?
Basically showing the domain is with me ... However any other details apart from domain name were not shown

Yeah looks like he is gathering evidence as per advice from lawyer. OP still hasn't mentioned whether it is generic name or not. But looking at his first post where he says "There is one popular online brand" it seems it's a TM name.

Name is trademarked in US .... I belong to another country ... How is this going to affect me ... Haven't monetized it either via parking landers

Doubtful there is jurisdiction crossover but you never know. If the brand is an international company with a physical presence in your country then you should be careful. Not good idea to try to sell TM domain to the holder.

Actually I gave a thought about it ... The company is primarily operating in US .. Hence I felt this shouldn't be mich of an issue ....
I would really welcome some expert advice on the subject .....
