Why does it take 7 days to transfer a domain from one registrar to another !? Transferred from Godaddy to Epik a few times & it always took about 7 days. I thought it was probably just Godaddy but just transferred one from Namesilo to Epik, same, 7 days !? Seems like one of those unexplainable things like why it takes 5 days for a cheque to clear (not that anyone uses cheques anymore !).

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
ICANNT outdated policy.

Few allow you to opt out.

Network Solutions is the worst. dissolve aleady

Did you manually approve the outgoing transfer at Godaddy?

Clicked 'transfer domain away from Godaddy' they give you the Auth code, passed that to Epik.

As Samer says, I guess it's just an outdated ICANN policy, don't see why it should take that long in this day & age !?

Next time, you may visit the URL I gave you and approve manually. It will save you a lot of time.

After receiving he Auth code and providing it to the new registrar, just wait 5-10 minutes and your domain will be visible in the transfer-out overview at Godaddy, then click Approve.

Godaddy mentions this in the email it sent to you as well:

If you plan on going ahead with the transfer, you don't have to do anything else—any products or services associated with your domain will be canceled too. To speed things up, you can approve the transfer right now.

Anything with GoDaddy takes more time for no reason, I've transferred a lot of domains from Dynadot to Epik (for example) and it takes only couple of hours.

Transfers out of Godaddy can be done within about 15 minutes as well.

You're welcome @doofer.

Most registrars provide some comparable method, to manually speed-up the transfer-out process. They all implement it in a different way. Sometimes you can manually Approve the transfer, sometimes you're only able to Deny a transfer. And there are more variations. It also depends on the exact TLD and intermediate registrar partners in the process.

Hope your next transfers will go faster. For doing transfers in bulk, you can download domains including Auth-codes per CSV from your current registrar (don't forget to unlock them in bulk as well), and use Bulk Transfer-in at the gaining (new) registrar.

The only way to go is manual approval. Most registrars are good about this but sometimes you might have to fish around for the links and transfer pages.

I forget what registrar it is but I would receive emails with a link that said "if you want to reject the transfer follow the link:". I was wrecking my brain trying to figure out how to approve and finally just followed the reject link and there was an option to approve at that link also.

So YMMV.
