Hi All,
We know, one registrant has launch great discount for registering new '.best' (dot best).
My knowledge is very limited about this extension. But I have tried to register some new names. Such as:

cap.best
bat.best
ham.best
dew.best
nap.best
tan.best
yap.best
night.best
morning.best

So What are yours?
And, Anyone can help me (or us) to explain how about the future prospects of this extension (dot best) for global market?

Hello @Cyril.Best -- Just tried to renew .best premium domain name at @Dynadot . Unfortunately, it is showing the full renewal price. Also followed-up with Dynadot online support, they echo that the discount is not for premium domains. Could you please help?

It should be "just" a technical (EPP) problem between Dynadot and our back end operator to get the right pricing on .best premiums. @Dynadot team is already working on it to fix it.

Don't forget to send us the list of your .best domains by email : [email protected] so that the .best team can follow your specific case and make the necessary double check to keep you posted once the pb is fixed @Dynadot.

Well, it has been 2+ years since this thread was started.

There is still no aftermarket. NameBio shows (2) .best sales in 2021 for $309 total dollars.

The extension is losing registrations.

Add it to the long list of extensions that over-promised and under-delivered. It clearly did not live up to the hype.

There are multiple threads here where OP has claimed to have sold or about to sell .best domains for six figures or the two domains hotel / hotels.best for one million. None of these supposed sales has been verified.

Assuming this is true (I don’t believe it’s true - see below), it tends to mean that any .best domains that are deemed to be worth something (capable of being sold to end users for real money right away) are being retained for sale by the registrar itself.

It’s nice to dream but realism is what is required when there are many hotel or hotels dot extensions that have sold recently for mid to high three figures (EXample: hotels.ly $568.; hotels.ws $1250.; hotels.nu $983.) and many more available for that or less.

Why yet another non dot com extension would be worth 1000 - 2000X more than these is inexplicable - indeed, unjustified.

Indeed, if you go to hotels dot best there are clues that it is nothing more than a blog created by the OP , Cyril dot best himself. And hotel dot best resolves to nothing. Neither clearly sold at all, let alone for “about a million.”

First, regarding .Best live domains, your extract from ntldstats is totally right.

I can even tell that is fully part of our Best strategy to go « just down » to 50k live domains by the end of 2021. (FYI : down to 50K a registry has lower annual ICANN fees)

Why ?

1. The Best app is now live in stores and as explained here before, we are now fully focusing on the usage of our .Best domains (not #regs). To download the Best app : https://app.best/
2. To clean the .Best registry of prior/old/abusive brand/trademark registrations,
3. To liberate few names for new .Best end-users & domainers,

How ?

Since 1.1.2021, we have decided to increase our « 1st year promo wholesale reg price » from $1 to almost $4 with all our .Best registrars in promotion.

Where I do not agree with you is about the hype.

First, I do not really like the « hype » term, because it doesn’t really mean anything in terms of marketing and registry success (unless you compare the hype to a real KPI).

For a registry, the « success », if this is what you would like to mention, is something that you don’t measure from « live domains » but from « domain renewals ».

A registry success is not having 7M live domains (in china). Doesn’t mean anything to sell cheap domains in China if you don’t renew them. Ask .icu, .xyz, or .loan about it 😉

So, as we are here talking about success, let me please share the .Best renewal evolution chart of the .best registry since 3 years :

As you see now, it’s not about a registry hype : It’s all about a registry success build on a real and long-term usage strategy of .Best domains through the Best app!

Now, I perfectly get that the success of the .Best registry doesn’t mean the success of .Best domain investors.

History shown that (success) difference between registries and domainers is all about Time.

Time to recruit/acquire enough end-users (=potential domain buyers) to make the market liquid enough for domain investors.

Let me just remind here to people why most ngtlds domainers failed and will continue to fail investing in ngtld if they learn from people asking for hype or short-term return on investment.

1. you will fail if you listen people telling you that there is a possible aftermarket without a prior end-user market : It’s simply impossible.

2. Secondly, there is no overnight success : It tooks about 10Y to the .com and most cctlds to create a solid aftermarket.

And it’s about the same for almost every digital asset : Bitcoin was created in 2009 and the big ramp-up for investors was : 2020 (11Years later!)

Now, I am not sayin that because value needs time, nothing happened or will happen in the next years but if you are not able to wait and renew your ngtlds domains on the long-term, then please save your money.

As for the .Best, to answer your question, don’t worry, I will not report here all our .Best premium sales but if you follow us on twitter, you might already know that we sold more premium names in the past year than we did from the beginning : site.best, bestofthe.best, party.best, human.best, 365.best, whatis.best, makeup.best, highest.best, native.best, orlando.best, vps.best, roi.best, fragrance.best, trading.best, ride.best, escrow.best, red.best, bali.best, …

But once again, please save your money if you still believe that people will run/chase after you because you have a great .Best domain in hand in the next weeks. It's not gonna happened like that.

Last week, I received a call from a .Best domainer that bought missouri.best in 2018 and was upset because he received a great buying proposal on sedo while he did not renew the domain.

Of course that’s domainer life but if you work and plan your roi on ngtld on the short term, you will fail and /or be disappointed at the end.

GoDaddy is absent completely.
Other registrars don't matter at all, in terms of aftermarket results.

It's not about GoDaddy (Amazing 20M users) - it's about Apple and Google (4B social media users).

We call it disruption ;)

Classic Process (100M TAM Worldwide) : End-User -> Registrars -> Registry

Best Process : (4B TAM Worldwide) : End-User -> Apple/Google -> Best App -> .Best Registrars -> .Best Registry

So basically Godaddy, as all our .Best registrars are now strategic partners (= both clients/suppliers).

I think Brad was referencing posts that extolled the virtues of .best and built excitement for the extension by providing information and statistics that don't paint a complete picture.

Examples:
  • Producing a graph showing increase in renewals without including any numbers.
  • Listing names using the best app platform, but not providing total number of users, details on whether that meets targets, or future projections linked to real data.
  • Sharing vague stats with a positive spin, like the comparison of GoDaddy sales/users to Apple and Google app store sales/users.
Generally, your posts have had a lot of positive energy, but have been very text heavy and light on information that allows investors to make a balanced and informed choice. That's hype. You don't have to like the word to do it. ;)

You can get most infos about the .Best from many stats platforms such as ntldstats.com, namestat.org, ...

We just do not disclose the prices we sold our premium names coz it could affect the buyer (in a case of domain resell for instance and, some end-users also asked us to keep that info confidential).

About the Best app, like I said, we just started the Best onboarding invitation process. We have also launched beginning June 2021 the Best app sunrise period for brand and trademarks owners to protect them before our marketing launch.

Our future projections on app downloads, registered users, .Best domains and even business/marketing/sales strategy are confidential datas that we only disclose to our investors - I think that you can easily get it.

But if you have any questions about the Best app in terms of value for the end-users, for brands or whatever unclear that you want to know, please don't hesitate and I will answer them.

About Go Daddy vs Apple/Google: I just wanted to point the fact that we have a different strategy of most existing ngtlds on the market. Not a bad thing for the others - plus, godaddy has an amazing user base and is also reselling .Best domains, - but we simply do not target the same market, and most importantly, we will not distribute our .Best domains the same way too.

I can say that our Best business model is closer to a Pinterest/Wix/Shopify mix rather than Verisign for instance.

Once more, we are not here to sell .Best domain to domain investors: that's not our business strategy.

Our Best strategy is to sell .Best domain and other value-added services (advertising, trademark protection, social commerce features, ....) to social media end-users and brands to help them promote their Best content/products/services through the Best app and .Best domains.

We believe that it is the right path to create first a solid end-user market and then a liquid aftermarket for .Best domain names. The aftermarket will be a positive collateral effect of our Best app success - not the opposite.

But I can totally understand that people can be reticent or simply do not like our Best approach as this industry has lacked of innovation since the ngtld program launch and as a result is now concentrating because none really took care of the value for the end-users since 2012.

And once more, as a domainer, if you target short-term ROI, then save your money.

In .BEST - no any inquiries, even lowball inquiries.

(42) total sales for $21,700 all time. The highest sale being Meta.best for $10K.

Only (3) sales above $1,000.

There also doesn't appear to be much going on with the promised app.

It seems like just another extension in a long line that make promises and predictions that did not pan out. The hype did not match the reality.

BUT, what you did not mention again or do not show here is that our .best renewal traction is exactly the opposite : Indeed, since 3+ years our monthly renewal traction is constantly growing!

We probably do not share the same marketing consideration as :

+40 successive months of solid renewal growth has nothing to do with the hype!

Especially during the pandemic with +10M domains losses from 2020 to 2021!

Plus, None is measuring the success of a TLD on live domains but on renewals and domain usage. So please, do not hesitate to show the +40 months renewal traction of the .Best to namepros users.

On live domains, I even have another prediction: our internal objective is now to go around 35K live .Best domains in the next coming weeks to liberate again few names for our Best app end-users.

Why ?

1. We would like to totally clean the .Best registry of abusive registrations for the brands,
2. We would like to liberate again few good names for our social media end-users,

Furthermore, as I explained many times before, we don't make money on selling domains (not our strategy) but on selling added-value services to end-users: social media users, brands & business owners.

This year, we started offering pre-connected .Best domains directly from Apple, Google and our Best registrars.

We even just became the first TLD with domains distributed and sold directly by Apple on the App store - now on a monthly basis : $0.99/month: Test it!

You're right: same pitch, same strategy, +40mo of renewal growth, ...

But after 3 years of development, 2-year of pandemic, 1 year of app invitation and testing, since 1st March 2022 we are now live in stores for our end-users and ready to execute our vision.

It still doesn't look like much is going on with .BEST, despite all the hype over the years.

1.) There is virtually no resale market.

There are (4) reported sales in 2022 for $1,303 total.

2.) Total registrations continue to drop monthly.

3.) The.best APP is still basically non-existent.


If you look at the APP on the Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.best) it shows the following -

Installs 50+.
No reviews.

4.) The registry is also now going down the path, some would call it a protection racket, of trying to collect revenue from TM holders for blocking worthless domains.

did a quick search to see whats available out of 3000 commonly used English words about 1000 are available to register not really a good sign for the extension ^^ to put it in perspective for the same list only 20 names are available to register in the .us extension

if anyone is interested in the names pm me i will send you the list

Almost 10 months after the last post, not much appears to be happening.

.BEST has (10) reported sales in the last year for $3,716 total. All the reported sales were in the XXX range.

The app now has "100+" downloads on the Play Store with no reviews.

I guess you can add this to the long list of new extensions that overpromised and underdelivered.
