In chat, we've been testing out a new set of rules on Fridays to allow selling ("Casual Fridays"): More details.

Please let us know whether we should:
  1. Only allow selling in chat on Fridays like we have been doing.
  2. Extend selling in chat to the entire weekend.
  3. Allow selling every other day in chat.
  4. Always (24/7) selling in chat.
  5. Never allow selling in chat.
  6. Other (explain in a post)

Thanks in advance!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
With the current rule of 15 minutes in between sales posts, I don't see there being a problem having it open 7 days a week

so, every 15 min. somebody could post the same :poop: names, 7 days a week?

and you wonder why, it's not that much conversation there.

imo....

2 separate rooms: One room for pushing domains, the other casual

How should the green light be repurposed?

Color coordinate or for another message.

Maybe instead of “Room 1” make it “green” and “Room 2” Gray (or any other color)

People misunderstand that the messages are not read :/

..if creating 2 chats is possible as @iAdam suggested would be amazing

Spam domains in one...NamePros chat in another

@LoodeX Said that to Mod Bravo yesterday, pretty reasonable

I like the idea of having two separate chatrooms, but I'm a bit concerned that it would result in the chatroom that doesn't allow domain names becoming inactive. Perhaps it would make more sense to differentiate between promotional messages and other messages, then add a preference to hide promotional messages.

@Paul Hmm, maybe. What you suggested sounds equally reasonable. I seen the current "chat section" to be that casual place to go to, and always have done (from the relatively short stay I've been here) ...it is pretty inactive anyway, considering there are often hundreds of members online, yet maybe 3 - 5 people total in the chat room, at any one time ...that can be improved. Whatever people opt for, the right decision should result in higher activity

You want people to find it a pleasure being in this community, resulting in fluent contact among members, without mass amounts of unwanted content (domain pushing) ...obvious goal. I think even if you had that "hide" feature, most people will click that straight away when entering chat, then a very limited amount of eyes are on the stuff anyway, resulting in it being a lost cause for the pushers as a whole (counter intuitive). Overall: Its a delicate balance, the feature mentioned may be an improvement

If that’s easier to implement why not ..The users could still filter out “sales” if they wish ..both ideas are good

becoming inactive

The one and only chat room is already somewhat inactive, with little activity.

Limiting sales posts ever 15 minutes during the weekends has worked well, I don't see why it's not that way all the time

People vote, it's your democratic right

But in this case it doesn't change anything.

This was started over 5 years ago.

The NamePro admins have never seemed to care about what features the users here have wanted, even though this site is almost entirely made up of user created content. This site would be nothing without its users.

This was started over 5 years ago.

And in that time, it doesn't really seem as though there's ever been a consensus.

Currently we've got 107 in favor of always, 51 in favor of sometimes/other, and 58 in favor of never. "Always" isn't even a majority here, despite having the most votes of any option.

I'd love to know what the sales rate/percentage is for names posted for sale in the chat box and that sell as a result of the chat post alone. I would guess its miniscule. Pretty pointless spamming names in chat when there's a whole section of the forum for selling. Might as well knock it on the head. That's the easiest solution.

Addition - I also wonder if the sales spamming actually deters people from participating in the chat room and that if there wasn't the constant threat of having names solicited to you, you might be more likely to have a look and maybe take part/instigate a chat. I know I very very rarely even look at the chat let alone post as I know it's just broken up with names for sale.

Leave the chat as it is. It is wisely built, no change is needed in my opinion.
