Domaining really is like a lot of other businesses, the haves and the have nots. In a conversation with another domainer yesterday, they told me they did not agree. “Raymond everyone is sitting on valuable domains, they just need the right timing for a big payday.” That is a nice sentiment and some would say […]

I invested with long term vision in my domains I register.

I'm ready to renew for 15 years so my domains can become more valuable and mature like a good wine.

I don't need parking money for my domains.

It must become my own extra retirement fund/money.

I have patience, no hurry!

The question is why do some people spend so much time and energy trying to prove that someone else is not a real domainer.

In my opinion anyone who thinks he or she is a domainer is a domainer,

No one can tell someone else that they are not a domainer.

And why do we think that having a lot of big sales should be the only metric or requirement for whether someone is considered to be a real domainer or not,

If I were able to hand register:

EndingStarvation.com

and

EndingStarvation.org

couple of months ago in my book that makes me more of a domainer than someone else who just sold a domain for 7 or 9 figures but couldn't come up with a decent domain to register no matter how hard they thought about it.

IMO

Hi

i gonna reply, just to point out the flaw

let's say i go buy some saws, t-square and a ruler... and use them for a few months,
does that make me a carpenter?

or, say i mix some household chemicals together and blow up the kitchen...
does that make me a chemist?

on other hand, if i get caught with 3 bags of rocks, does that make me a drug dealer?

now, i'm not going to try and define what a domainer is
but, a domainer is not one who buys a few domains in one year, and then disappears.

one would have to take similar risks, put in similar amounts of time and make similar sacrifices to sustain and maintain over a period of time,
they should last long enough to a point, where they can look back... and see themselves in the shoes of those who come after them.

just cuz you buy some books and walk inside a school, doesn't make you a student.
you have to take notes, pass tests and put in the work -

in the end though, you can call yourself anything you want.

imo....

All good points,

but if you want to buy some paintbrushes and some paint and start painting what's in your imagination on a canvas who am I to tell you if you are a painter or not.

Now if you want to conduct classes and teach others how to paint then perhaps your qualifications should be looked at.

But whether you want to paint as a hobby or if you are one of the great masters it ultimately is up to the people to decide if they like your work or not and whether they want to follow your style of painting.

Nevertheless you could be a good painter and not have sold any paintings,

So it basically is up to the people to decide if they want to value your work and opinion or not and for that reason it's also up to the people to educate themselves about the Industry to see where you fit in and whether they want to follow your method and advice amongst all the other ones that might be available to them.

Now there is also a creative element to domaining and it is a never ending learning adventure that everyone can participate in while doing their part to contribute to the collective knowledge that exists in the Industry.

And as such no one can say if another person is a domainer or not. (now it’s another matter whether someone is a successful investor or not.)

Hi

one who transfers images from their imagination by hand,
regardless to whether it's paint, pencil or ink, to a canvas, are typically called "artists".

many artists are born with that talent, like musicians. where some can play instruments and never had any lessons.
on other side, there are some, who come into domaining that seem to have a "knack" for it, but the fundamentals of buying and reselling, for them... still have to be learned.

Now if you want to conduct classes and teach others how to paint then perhaps your qualifications should be looked at.

Hi

now to the quote above,
it addresses the "quote reposted by @equity78 that AD made years ago", in regards to those claiming to be domain authorities.

when i started, nobody was calling themselves an expert or an authority.
and nowadays,
it seems like everybody already knows everything, and you can't tell them :poop: differently.

I can't talk for others, but that's why I have been calling myself:
