Domains are an important part of any business that wants to be online. Whether it's being used as a company website, email, or part of a marketing campaign.

Companies need domain names. It's the foundation to any website. Without a domain name, you don't exist.

When buyers purchase a domain name, it needs to be clear and understood that they are investing in a presence which helps future customers define who they are.

If you are a domain investor who hordes tons of domain names, I can guarantee you that most of them in your portfolio are garbage. I can guarantee you that you've wasted more money on domains than you have invest else where.

It should be understood that owning a premium domain has become extremely expensive, hovering around $5,000 and $20,000.

Comparing the price of anything, it can easily be said that could classify just about everything as expensive.

But why are domains commanding so much value? Many investors and potential buyers don't understand the overall value of the underlying asset.

Many people feel that domains just don't carry that much value in comparison to real estate.

But lets get this understood, digital real estate, is just as if not more important than brick and mortem real estate. The digital world is changing, and we must change with it.

Domains are properties. And even though most investors tend to purchase them, throw ads on them instead of creating value around them, we investors are just extremely smart people who were just at the right place at the right time.

I've learned that domain names shouldn't sell for less than $5,000. Premium domains that is. Why waste your time on anything else?

Short domains, category killers can be sold for more than a million dollars depending on different factors .

As investors it's important to know the value behind the domain you are selling. What will your buyer see when they see your domain name, if anything. No one wants to own a garbage domain name that won't resign ate with buyers.

And if your domain doesn't leave a mark with potential buyers, then you might want to develop that value and show them what they might be missing.

Gone are the days of throwing domains around in hopes that someone buys them. People don't believe in things they can't see. It's the way of the world.

Don't undersell yourself, but don't oversell garbage either. Wasting your time and energy trying to sell an 8 dollar domain is far less exciting than selling one for $8,000.

You probably will, like with most things. The value is based solely around the person willing to buy it. At the same time, just like with any business; there are levels to this thing. And the basic level to keep in mind when investing in domain names is- short, sweet, memorable.
