Deleting a domain name to avoid ICANN 60 day period?

I sold a recently registered free to register domain, the buyer initiated escrow and wants to move to another registrar. It is still under the ICANN 60 day period. Do I have the option to delete the domain name from my current registrar and just free-to-register it at his registrar? There is a delete option for domains, I know how to do it but have never done it. I am worried that if I delete it it may go to Pending Delete status?

Has anybody done this before?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I wouldn't recommend it.
A domain delete typically means the domain going through redemptionPeriod for 30 days and then 5 days of pending delete.
Only when the domain is still in the "addPeriod" (first 5 days in general for gTLDs), a delete will be done a lot faster if not instantly.

The best way would still be to have the buyer receive the domain as a push at the current registrar, it's usually possible. And then in 60 days, he will be able to transfer it to his preferred registrar :)

It should work within the 1st five days after initial registration only. The domain would immediately become available for handreg. In all other cases - normal deletion cycle (redemptionperiod, pendingdelete).

Moreover, some registrars (uniregistry for example) would move the domain to their internal account instead, without actually/immediately sending delete command to the registry.

+ the risk that the buyer not get the domain on free hand registration & you will lose the money
Best option is or a push ( if is possible ) or to wait 60 day's

Let the money remain in escrow for two months. Once 60 day lock period is over , transfer the domain name to buyer's registrar and complete the escrow.

Are you sure that buyer have not backordered it himself if in case you delete the domain name.

60 say lock is as archaic as ICANN itself.

Only worse is 5-7 days some Registrars take to transfer, without prompt to expedite transfer. Network Solutions is a great example of this.

Have NetSol stopped their expedited transfer process? Although their email is slow coming and doesn't mention expediting, if you click that link you can still expedite the process. But it can take 3-5 days for the transfer to take place. That's expediting to NetSol :(

I haven't done a transfer for maybe a year. But it's been like that for a long time. IMHO.

That would be awesome!
Only enom does not work that way.
Still no clue why people use enom, net sol.. :wtf:

You could try asking Sedo.com if they can hold the domain for 2 months, and give you your payout once Sedo takes over the domain (and if the buyer agrees to that... and you could change the domain settings to point the buyer's DNS of choice before you transfer it, so the buyer can start using the domain).

If the sale is of a decent size, maybe Sedo would be willing to do that.

But yes, the easiest thing to do would be to do it as a push at the current registrar.

And definitely don't delete it.
