.io is on a tear. Most reported sales are in the xx,xxx and xxx, xxx. Just a matter of time before a million dollar sale is reported. I have 120 one word or two keyword combos. What are your thoughts on where .io is going?

.io is the next best thing to .com, no doubt about that. I’m asking 5 figures minimum for my one word .io and well beyond for a few.

I put most of my names @ dictionarywords.io so I can pitch most of them. My gambling names are with Mr. Premium.

Is .io the next .com?

No.

A couple of sales of tech-related extension doesn't make it a powerful competitor to .com

.io is not old as .com
.io is not known globally as .com
.io has a strict very limited target, .com is super-versatile

The funny thing about crypto-age riches is that they became millionaires just because they entered the game at the beginning and paid some bucks for electricity bills. They're able to invest big amounts to their projects because it's kind of "free money". Besides that, alternative extensions quite cheap compared to .com versions.

So, once again: NO

None of any extension is the next .com and won't be never ever.

Treat and accept everything as it is.

They may invest the same ~$90K in nice .com
If real ~$90K, not just next fake news for one more Park.io hype...

I don't think that you can buy (avatar.com) with $90K

There was a really strange hype a couple of weeks ago: y.at
They were selling subdomains (yes, subdomains) with emojis like (:droid:.y.at) for 6 figures!
I don't know what's going with them recently...

You can find LLL.com for $90K, just 1 example.
Why this avatar at all???

p.s. True benchmark for TLD - when at least 20 domainers make money there... and regularly.
For me .IO looks like 1-actor theatre.

I am happy for those who are doing great .io sales. I am just wondering why the extension it so incredibly popular with tech and crypto companies? Do some of these companies actually prefer .io to .com? Because it seems like some of the reported sales are getting close to what you could acquire similar .coms for.

Sure, .io is super short, but it takes longer time to say "I O" than "COM". I wonder if the love of .io has anything to do with the anti-establishment of many crypto projects? Choosing the ccTLD of a small U.K. territory instead of a .com under U.S. law...

The crypto world is a new world that breaks all the rules... for this reason .io has an amazing success in the crypto world. Anyway we are in a new world.

io in tech means input/output. With the world hurtling towards 'everything digital', it's no real surprise that every old or new company is either a tech firm or is leveraging tech in it's operations. It's also no surprise that .io names are doing well. They are not dot coms but they have an identity like .org.

Personally, I consider .io one of the better repurposed cctlds. But the carrying cost is high which is why I have very few names in that extension.

.io, is only reaching such levels because many one word .com’s which are owned, and used by end users really can’t be obtained for any rational
number, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just because someone offers you an insane amount of money, doesn’t mean you have to sell, especially if you have a good business already established.

How you define rational has many factors.

Anyhow, .io are getting what they deserve and it’s just the start imo. Look for .io sales to go to $1 million plus soon.
