Yes, well a lot of what passes for education in the West might be worse than no education at all. Uneducated doesn't mean stupid, nor does educated mean not stupid.

It makes sense to despise the educated. Look who has the power. People who lack power generally despise those who have it. On the other hand, only despotic people have contempt for the powerless. And the uneducated tend to be on the bottom of that equation.

The problem I see is that a lot of people who have been to university haven't even received a little learning. But their heads have been filled with dangerous rubbish. In that sense, they are worse off than those with no education, but still know a horse is a horse and haven't been brainwashed with some Tube Goldberg logic into thinking horses are unicorns.

I am speaking of the liberal arts here, not about those studying engineering or medicine, though they still get exposed to a lot of the rubbish as well.

I don't see any difference between (a) a college graduate who thinks that the US is a white supremacist nation, that conservatives are evil, and that firing all the police while printing boatloads of money for entitlements will work just fine and (b) a high school dropout who thinks that (legal) immigrants are planning to take over the country and lizard people in DC spray chemicals from planes to control the populace. Stupid is stupid. Though at least the one without the education has an excuse. And I think we should remember that those with a college education are generally more privileged than those who couldn't finish high school - so when a university graduate mocks the "poorly educated" it reeks of arrogance and elitism.

Many of those receiving diplomas today aren't nearly as highly accredited as in the past. I'm not saying these students are any less intelligent, just that many of the univerity/college standards have been lowered to the least common denominator. It's not about weeding out anymore, but how many seats can be filled by leaving no student behind. I can't speak for American colleges, but I have noticed this in other countries including Canada where many of the foreign students are giving our home-grown kids a run for their money. The problem is, education has become an export.

I think you are correct on this … colleges in the USA are now cash cows .. not really for education any longer … when I graduated high school .. between 3% to 5% who graduated high school actually went to a 4 year college or major university … today is most common for high school graduates to attend college and come out with some kind of degree … the work place in America realizes that a large percentage of college graduates today have useless college degrees … the students get a degree .. but more so have a large debt loan for that degree …. the colleges are making all the cash.

The elite ruling class are often themselves poorly educated. Many have bought their way to the top without real concern for their supporters. The poor and the uneducated face a constant set of problems making ends meet, often with low pay and poverty line jobs, lucky to break even paycheck to paycheck let alone saving for their kid's college tuition.

It appears that the hardliners, having their strongest support among the poor and uneducated are trying to reimpose their grip, sometimes tyrannically, either by making the populace conform to some sociopolitical ideology or by promoting tolerance to violence.

While it used to be 'radical' to be an evironmental activist, ecological concerns have become more mainstream, the signs are obvious, just as earth scientists have been declaring for decades. Government will cash in on the 'green industry' just like they did in the cannabis industry. A former 'black market' was prolonged by government regulations, scheduling etc. Now with legalization and wide acceptance from the medical field, corporate businesses have pushed stock market investors realizing the potential profits. Even Kevin O'Leary (who once said he'd never invest in the industry) is now changing his tune when it comes to psychadelic drugs and their pharmaceutical applications.

I'm not defending, nor am I quite sure about that quote - it was obviously written by some hack. I was just watching his most recent remarks regarding Covid passports and he said he would follow suit with what other countries (mostly European allies) are considering. He did not, however, comment on the situation in the US.

Future seems even further at times like these ...
