Hi,

Just wondering what your opinion is.

If you had the choice between a hyphenated .com domain or a non-hyphenated .co domain, which do you think would hold more resale value? If any? (In this scenario, the non-hyphenated .com is not available for purchase.)

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have the same problem too. My desired domain name with the .com has been taken. But with a hyphen is available. Does anyone know is it better to buy the hyphenated one or go for another domain ending?

Hyphens are generally a no-no because people don’t usually remember them in a name which means they’ll end up at the name without them. Non-dotcom versions suffer for the same reason but it does depend on the context because some cctlds or new gtlds are almost expected (e.g., .io in tech or crypto). Obviously rules are meant to be broken but in general, stay away from hyphens. Even brands that have it in their name go without it for the domain name (e.g., Coca-Cola).

I probably would go for a hyphenated .com if the word was a hypenated compound word such as
  • two-fold.
  • check-in.
  • full time.
  • father-in-law.
  • on-campus
