Hey everyone,
For the past month, I've been using the website DomainAgent that connected me with an owner of a domain name. We finally came to an agreement and I was sent to DomainAgents partner escrow - Escrow.com

After I made payment, I was told that the owner is located in Russia and they will have to cancel the transaction.

Now I have lost all connection with the owner (no info in Whois) and I'm afraid he might thought I folded. I emailed back DomainAgent and Escrow to help me connect back to the owner but I wanted to ask for any advice on this matter to make the transaction work.

If I do get back in contact, what Escrow service should I be using? There are so many out there that I don't think I can come to a solid decision in the next day or two.

Thanks!

@btlee Welcome to namePros.

It is a pity to hear that contact with the domain owner has been lost and you have not been clearly informed about what, and how, communication has taken place towards the selling party.

Let's tag @Escrow.com Support and @DomainAgents in this discussion as well.

Dan.com is pretty fast with plenty of payment methods
if the website was listed for sale then perhaps it was listed elsewhere google the domain with "" at the end and start see if he has it listed on another marketplace and get in touch there you can also use whoxy for history of whois

Russia is among countries which are not served by Escrow.com (a few years already).
In the past DomainAgents informed me that optionally they can proceed via another escrow...
So ask them for another option.

Really thankful for all the advice and help everyone! Its great to see such a close active community.

Because I was in such a lost and frantic mode, as I was waiting for the post to be approved, I kept doing more research and also found a way to contact the owner.

I've been chatting to him and have proposed to use Epik and asked him to check it out first. I also contacted the Epik reps and they said it shouldn't be a problem that the owner is in Russia.
He will get back to me today, so hopefully it will all go smoothly. If he doesnt like Epik, then ill propose Sedo.

I'm glad I didn't stray too far from everyone advices.

Also, prior to contacting the owner, I did email DomainAgents and Escrow.com to help me out. Both reps were nice. Escrow understandably couldn't do much but have refunded me quickly. DomainAgent's also couldn't do much, but did point me to Sedo and gave me the email of the owner.

Even though the DomainAgent/Escrow.com service was really smooth, I cant help being a little disappointed. It's totally understandable that DA can't do much against the law, but I would of thought an earlier warning about locations would be present. For someone new to domain buying, something like this would of never crossed my mind to check.

Not really a complaint, just a sucky feeling to find out right at the end of a negotiation.

Thanks again everyone! Hopefully I can update you all with good news! Cheers~

Thanks @Future Sensors for tagging us and thanks @btlee for letting us know about this.

Yes, I'm afraid that Russia is one of the unsupported locations at this time and we see you have mentioned here already that you spoke to one of our reps and have been refunded quickly. We sent you a DM so we can take note of your particular transaction for our partnership specialists to look into it further. We appreciate this feedback and we look forward to hearing from you.
