Spaceship Spaceship
In this week's Top Topics, domain investors discuss Afternic's new BIN landers in the week that the marketplace released the much-anticipated landing pages to the public. Elsewhere, a rebrand gets domainers talking and one investor reveals they have lost interest in domaining.

We also look at a two five-figure .TV sales and a new investor is looking for some advice.

Afternic Introduces New BIN Landers

GoDaddy’s Afternic marketplace announced this week that it has unveiled new BIN (buy it now) landing pages, offering its users the chance to display immediate, buy now prices for their domains alongside the GoDaddy logo.

It has been pointed out that Afternic’s commission remains at 20% for a domain sale between $0 and $5,000. That’s higher than other industry favorites. After the launch of this new landing page design, domain investors are reacting to the release. Do you like Afternic’s new landing page?

Standard Life Aberdeen to Rebrand to Abrdn

In 2019, TechCrunch suggested that startup names may have passed peak weirdness after more companies were adopting more conventional names such as Hitch, Coder, or even Marshmallow.

Standard Life Aberdeen didn’t seem to get the memo about passing peak weirdness, since the company has rebranded to Abrdn, a name that reminds me of mid-noughties successes Flickr or Tumblr. Domain investors are, naturally, offering their opinions on the rebrand in this discussion.

I’ve Lost Interest in Domaining

Have you ever struggled with motivation as a domain name investor? Perhaps a lack of sales or a short supply of good domain name purchases has left you feeling like you want to quit. Fortunately, you’re not alone.

I Sold Noticias.tv for $35,000

Prolific .TV investor @Ammudamus openly shares many of their domain sales to the community. Here, the domainer has revealed a five-figure .TV sale that they closed courtesy of a Uniregistry domain broker.

The name in question is Noticias.tv, Spanish for “news,” with the name fetching a $35,000 fee. According to the discussion, @Ammudamus held the domain name for over ten years before achieving the five-figure sales price. According to NameBio, Noticias.tv now ranks as the third-largest .TV sale of 2021 so far.

This week, another domain investor also shared another .TV sale, with Dragon.tv selling for $15,000 at Afternic.

How Do I Improve After My First $1,000+ Sale?

A domain investor has revealed that they recently sold their first domain name for a four-figure fee. With a portfolio of under one hundred names and a handful of other sales under their belt, this new investor is looking to kick on and improve.

How would you recommend that a new investor improves from a position of closing their first-ever four-figure domain sale? Would you recommend a more proactive approach, using outbound sales to producing a regular turnover that can be reinvested?

Very nice selection of topics - thanks @James Iles . Thank you.

The responses in the I have lost interest... topic are among the best I have seen on NamePros - great stuff from many members.

I had missed the last two topics, must go check them out.

Neigh neigh, the thread had produced some great go-to reference points and for me, have bookmarked it. Probably your backtracking on losing interest and have now been re-nrgzd! Believe it will be a great guide for anyone thinking of abandoning the dn game, either fortifying or changing their mindset.

Generally, you are never "the only one" with a perception.

Thanks @James Iles

These Top Topics blog posts are becoming my go to place to check out interesting discussions here every once in a while, as I don't have time to go through all of them everyday.

Abrdn rebranding and Lost interest in Domaining caught my eyes more than the others.

Thanks again.
