Schumer vows to undo federal marijuana laws; GOP continues to balk

According to a recent Pew Research poll, 91 percent of Americans think marijuana should be legal in some form, with 60 percent supporting its use both recreationally and medicinally and 31 percent saying it should be used only medicinally.

β€œIt makes no sense. It’s time for change. I believe the time has come to end the federal prohibition on marijuana in this country,” he said, adding that strict federal penalties for cannabis have disproportionately hurt people of color who serve long jail sentences over possession of the drug and then struggle to obtain jobs because of their criminal records.

β€œI don’t see any significant Republican support for decriminalizing,” said Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri, a member of the Senate Republican leadership.

The GOP has never met a popular policy that they won't try to block. Even when something has 90%+ approval they will try to block it. You have to admire their consistency in fighting against the will of the people!!!

Enjoy being on the wrong side of history, like usual.

As far as the history of hemp on this rock we now call America, hemp was planted from day one it seems. Arriving with the Puritans in Colonial America, hemp was planted almost immediately to supply materials such as lines, sails and other things for the Mayflower. At that time all sea vessels carried some stock of hemp seed. Being the fiber of choice it was quickly spread throughout the colonies.

In 1619, Jamestown announced the order for all farmers to grow hemp seed, and as more colonies popped up hemp cultivation laws became more mandatory. Cannabis hemp quickly became legal tender in most of the early settler days of 1631 into the early 1800s. Taxes were paid with hemp for over two hundred years, and between the 17th and 18th centuries it was illegal NOT to grow hemp in some areas. Some colonies even enforced jail sentences for those who did not participate in what was quickly becoming a patriotic act, especially during the revolutionary war.

It is well known that a few of our founding fathers were big proponents of growing hemp everywhere. A few in particular such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin not only spoke great things of the plant, but actually took part in the creation of a hemp industry.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor and Franklin Pierce. According to Dr. Burke, β€œEarly letters from our founding fathers refer to the pleasures of hemp smoking,”

William Randolph Hearst – Anslinger’s Right Hand in Cannabis Prohibition

https://www.veriheal.com/blog/william-randolph-hearst-anslingers-right-hand-in-cannabis-prohibition/

Hearst was known to have a disliking for minorities. In one biography, it was said that Hearst β€œβ€¦hated minorities, and he used his chain of newspapers to aggravate racial tensions at every opportunity.” If this was true, he did a great job of getting his word out there. He left behind a legacy-building the nation’s largest media and newspaper company of the time called Hearst Communications.

Mr. Hearst was elected two times as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives. He also made an unsuccessful run for President of the United States in 1904.

His main motive: produce paper for his newspaper empire. Hemp would've been a competitor.

This is how it all started: criminalization for monopolization and resultant continuation of systemic racism.

He killed two birds with one stone! :punch:

The Politics of Cannabis Today in US

Schumer vows to undo federal marijuana laws; GOP continues to balk

β€œWhat’s he been smoking?” quipped Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, when told of Schumer’s wishes.

β€œThat’s going to cascade through the states, just like it has been, and I think that’s the best way to do it,” said Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.). β€œIn terms of doing anything federally, I don’t think there’s any need for that right now.”

But Democrats increasingly think they are on the right side of the politics of the issue by pushing for liberalization, with fewer qualms than ever among moderates. Only six of 232 House Democrats voted against the decriminalization bill in December.

How do these problems interrelate?

Systemic racism: What it looks like in Canada

In a settler colonial state like Canada, systemic racism is deeply rooted in every system of this country. This means the systems put in place were designed to benefit white colonists while disadvantaging the Indigenous populations who had lived here prior to colonialism. This power dynamic continues to be upheld and reinforced in our society, extending its impact on new racialized citizens.

At the time, marijuana was mostly enjoyed by blacks in the US. Through control of the media and public persuasion; and by affecting the legal system through politics as a member of the House (against cannabis production), in hindsight you can read his motives clearly: a quest for personal profit and to galvanize discrimination.

Hearst was able to add fuel to enflame. A similar scenario is still played out today...only in digital form.

His flamboyant methods of yellow journalism influenced the nation's popular media by emphasizing sensationalism and human interest stories.

I am so glad the US has a much different media now!

Americans obsession with race and religion is very odd

Reason eleventy eleven. Black community leadership is steeped in victim culture which guilty white liberals reward with 5 figure consulting fees to learn how to hate themselves.

Like democrats passing mandatory sentencing laws written by Joe Biden and then refusing to pass criminal reform written by a black Republican because it's an election year.

It's politics and Republicans are trying to get something they want in return.

You should see a doctor about that knee jerk.

Apparently, this degenerate is arguing the police should have let the 250+ lb, 5' 8" attacker kill her victim because that's just what black people do.

upload_2021-4-21_7-39-18.png

Why did the victim call the police if she didn't need help??

Police received a 911 call at 4:35 p.m. about an attempted stabbing on the 3100 block of Legion Lane, which is located north of Chatterton Road. The caller reported a female was trying to stab them, then the caller hung up.

U.S. Public Opinion on the Environment in 2021

Leading up to Earth Day on April 22, Gallup will release a series of articles based on the 2021 Environment survey, conducted in March. These articles cover:
https://news.gallup.com/opinion/gallup/343139/public-opinion-environment-2021.aspx

Although nearly nine in 10 Americans believe the effects of global warming will be felt by current or future generations, prior Gallup polling has found that six in 10 Americans favor dramatically reducing the use of fossil fuels in the U.S. as a strategy for addressing global warming, while 36% oppose it.

That aligns with the percentages today who believe the effects of global warming are happening now (59%) and that human activity causes it (64%), suggesting these are the key attitudes driving Americans' political views, not whether they think global warming will become a problem at some point in the future.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/343025/global-warming-attitudes-frozen-2016.aspx

Most Americans Support Reducing Fossil Fuel Use

The vast majority of Americans want to see more emphasis placed on the production of green energy sources -- specifically solar power (80%) and wind (70%).

At the same time, they have mixed views about future production of fossil fuels. Relatively few want increased emphasis on oil (28%) or coal (22%); but about one in four think the emphasis on these should remain the same as it is now. Americans are most likely to want less emphasis on coal (50%), followed by oil (43%) and nuclear power (35%).

Support for rapidly slashing the country's use of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal is significantly higher among Democrats (80%) and independents (60%) than among Republicans (37%).

I see the solution is simple ... only black police in majority black neighbor hoods .. no white or brown police .. white and brown police in their perspective majority neighbor hoods ... if a call is from a black complainant.. only a black police officer takes the call ... problem solved .. but then a whole new nest of shit opens up .. the black community will bitch about segregation .. the white and brown communities would not bitch about it ... so in essence .. what we have is 13% of the US population shot calling how the rest of the US population will live their lives .... make sense ????

I wonder how people like @bmugford @lennco, @JB Lions square the media and Biden administration racial incitement over Ma’Khia Bryant being shot??

Race hustlers lying about Bryant being unarmed, politicians calling her a child like she was a toddler. Any comments about your leadership?

The police officer who shot Bryant saved at least one other life when he stopped her from stabbing another teenager with a large butcher knife.

Psaki makes it sound like she was shot by a white cop because she was black.

What in this statement is untrue exactly? The rates are disproportionately higher.

"We know that police violence disproportionately impacts black and Latino people and communities and that black women and girls, like black men and boys, experience higher rates of police violence."

The day that blacks start drastically reducing their aggressiveness, their crime rate, resisting arrest from police, their attitude towards society, their playing the victim & racist card constantly, their blaming whites for their problems, just to name a very few things, is the the day that society and the Police will also change towards them.... BUT.... they have to do the changes FIRST....

Whites have already bent backwards enough!

I think the use of brown people is a recruitment statement that has failed miserable .. Latinos stand on their own .. they are strong family oriented people and very very proud of their heritage ... that at least here in Texas ... the biggest immigration state .. and they actually have animosity towards Black Lives Matters and other Black groups that want to associate them with all of this movement ...

People are getting very tired of constant demands from violent groups .. anger is setting in now ..

she was threatening people with knife !! Now people are in the streets of Columbus Ohio chanting the girls name as if she is the victim here .... I guess her parents want millions of dollars too ... days .. weeks and months are going to be crucial in race relations going forward .. I just don’t see it all ending well at all .. I think we are the closest in US history to having a race war ...
