How many of you got RICH investing in .com names in 2020 - 2021? Let's discuss.

Those of you who know me know also that when it comes to .com names, my personal thinking is that it is too late for most people to invest in them.

Saying that I would like to be corrected if the above opinion is wrong. It might be possible that you invested in .com name in some period between the years 2020 - 2021, and got successful?

Please share your stories, and persuade hardcore new gTLD investors like me that .com is still relevant.

Thank you :)

Marek...."end users" still aren't aware there are viable affordable options to traditional overpriced .com's. I keep gravitating back to ngTLD's that make sense and I'm real close to breaking the code:xf.wink:

I finally have a developer who is working with me, and when he discovered what I was doing with the .realty and .online ngTLD's he wanted to get involved. He even registered a couple dozen .online domains on his own, and he was like a kid in a candy store. He'd text me every time he snared a good one, and like me he finds it hard to stop....you'd think we were on CrackDomains:xf.eek:....cheap crack at that.

NamesCon.online is what turned me on to the .online extension...it just made good sense. As you know I could give a rats ass what other domainers think. It's their obnoxious and condescending behavior that really turns me on:xf.smile:
Hi Rich, nice to meet you after some time :) Yes, some domainers are not behaving nicely to each other, I know exactly what you are talking about - do not mind them, try to ignore, do what you feel is good for you and what makes you happy.

You know what is the best revenge for those ugly people - live the best life you can, go to sea, have a great lobster in the restaurant with people you like, smile, have fun, you live in a beautiful town in a great country - and they can go berserk with envy, or not, who cares anyway :)

Saying that, this is a little off-topic, so let's go back to our subject - who and how got RICH here in .com domain investing during 2020 - 2021.

oh Doge ... I underestimated doge .. should pay more attention to it honestly ... i underestimated those kids dancing on Tic Toc .. my bad. Pay more attention to social media is what I think, and yet I failed in this instance, lol.

But ...back to topic...what aboug .com? Did that made you rich Alcy in 2020 - 2021 ? Or not? Is .com > DOGE, or DOGE > .com? :)

u do good to compare.doge to ngtld...cause they are both worthless investments...

rich is a useless question and term.

some feel rich with 1000 per month.. some live in villas worth millions and need tons of cash to maintain their lifestyle..

but since u do not know..let me tell u what rich is.. truly rich.. it's to be happy with whatever u have..financially or otherwise.

Hi

another way to look at investing, is that:

it is possible, to get rich or profitable, on the buy side.

and this is what so many don't see.

you can't vision domaining in a bubble or snapshot.

as the buy, is what makes the sale.

imo...

That sounds nice and might be ok for a liquid domain bought at bargain.

But for most names, what matters is the sale, not buy. As the sale in 1 year is not the same as the sale in 50 years.

On the other hand, if you look at names as batches of 100, then you are expected to sell 1 in a year and your approach makes sense.

I completely disagree with you Alcy. Here is why:

You stated that both doge and nTLDs are both worthless investments. Let's skip new gTLDs for now, and focus on doge. Your statement is very incorrect here. Would you invest 1000 USD in not so recent past in doge, you would have now 1 mil USD. This is 1000x. I am not saying that you should MARRY doge or something like that, I am just showing the obvious, that doge was the perfect investment vehicle for those who understood the power of memes on social media (which was not my case at the time, unfortunately). Would I suggest anyone invest in doge now? Of course not, it already 1000x! So the time has passed. But it is not a worthless investment if it could 1000x your initial money. And it was not luck - everyone who invested at this at a certain time and held, got this return.

Regarding the second part of your statement, you are getting personal here. You can not know what I am thinking about being rich in my mind, because we do not know each other personally. It is different to discuss things on a public forum which can be quite a rough place to discuss ideas, so things/ideas need to be put with this in mind and to have personal thinking which I can share with people who are close to me. I would say, never attack a person, as you can make damage. Attack ideas. Or question ideas. But not people who are presenting these ideas. I do understand that when I question .com in a certain manner, it will be perceived personally for many who spent a lot of time and effort in that area. Maybe I should question it more gently not to offend so much. But it is never personal from my side, I question ideas, not people... I am really curious about the new gTLD and .com from an investment vehicles point of view and just want to discuss it, in this thread I focus on .com.

u understand it differently.
my point is that nobody can predict doge value. or other cryptos

which makes it a casino bet. but u can call casino playing an investment if u want ;)

as for ngtlds well..there is a tiny fraction of domainers who concentrate on them like u. think that says it all in terms of com vs ngtlds

i personally am fan of co and io. but definitely would pick com over ngtlds.

Hi

well,
if you don't buy the right domains, at a price that leaves room for "potential" profit in the future,
then
your chances of sales are slimmer... than the likelihood you will sustain in this business.

the evidence is in the posts you may read,
where a new domainer has "collected" a list of bizarre domains prior to learning what type of names to buy, and now they don't know what to do with them, or whether they are worthy at all.

.i went thru similar stage, but to a lesser degree, simply because there was less competition and not as many distractions.

imo....

tell us pls when that happens :)

The irony of it is that while he tells us before it happens, should it actually happen, he'd be mum about it for NDA, Tax, privacy etc. reasons :-D

There are different type of investors. We just bought CloudPay.com for $25.000. It is our investment range in two word domain names.

I am very happy to invest in dotcom domains, in 2020 I have sales of more than 2000 dotcom domains. The dotcom domain business is very profitable

Agreed. It's pretty extraordinary. Just wanted to make the point that one should focus on great domains to beat the 1-3% STR average.

I know least 3 people personally with great STR.
I talk to them almost daily and yet I can't figure out how they buy,

And no, they are not into 1 word names. They buy domains for 20-1000 bucks just like the rest of us, but they sell them often 5 figure for prices I can't even imagine putting it here. One of them posts on the sales thread..

I just want to point out there are as many different ways to make or lose money in the domain business as there are in traditional real estate. Also, an extension whether it be .com, ,net, .org, .xyz, .online or .wtf is nothing more than a zip code.

So this is good news, or bad news? :) To me, it seems that it is a good price personally, but I am not a real .com expert.

It is a good deal. It was sold in the past for more that $31,000 and we bought below the sale price. We will keep until we have better offer than $31,000.

Nice. But I just don't understand how this made you rich.
