Hi, I remember seeing your posts on WHT :)

Yes, they auction-off their domains that are registered through GoDaddy (and its related companies). And in recent years, other registrars have also started sending their expired domains to be listed there, I guess because it's been found to be better for them to get more revenue from the expired domains.

And then if someone buys it, the domain gets transferred into your GoDaddy account.

Regarding the timeline, the domain gets listed at https://auctions.godaddy.com/ around 25 days after the expiry date, and then the auction end time is around day 35. If no one buys it in the auction, then it gets listed as a "buy now" option, starting at $50 (plus renewal fee) on day 36, and going down each day for 5 days, down to $5 (plus renewal fee) maybe around day 40.

Hope that helps

Thanks for you clarification, what about their backorder service? if no one backroders it except me i'll be getting it without auction?

A backorder ends up placing a bid on the domain... so the auction still happens.

So if you have already have a backorder on a domain, around day 25 when it shows up at auctions.godaddy.com, GoDaddy's system will automatically place a bid for you for the domain. Then if no one else bids on it, you get the domain (and don't have to pay anything more).

But unfortunately, these days if it's a good domain, there probably will be someone else who bids. It seems like domains that you could buy for $50 maybe 5 years ago now sell for more like $300 to $500. But I'd say it's good in a way too, for people who already have a lot of domains, to help domain values go higher.

Hi,
I don't understand something. I want to acquire a GoDaddy-registered, expired domain name, it was expired on April 9, 2021. It is in the redemption period. I could buy it from the owner, but the owner must pay almost 100 USD to recover it + his profit when selling it to me. But otherwise the owner would not renew it.

What I don't understand is that why can't I see this domain on GoDaddy Auctions or GoDaddy closeout? I searched for it and I could not find it.

So not all expired GoDaddy domains will appear on GoDaddy auctions?

Upon entering this domain into my webbrowser, I get the "This site can’t be reached DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" error, no landing page is displayed.

But the domain is not available, I can't register it.

And what should I do, buy this domain from the owner for about 120 USD, or backorder it?

Did they fix the problem of users renewing expired domains they PURPOSELY auction off

(to check the market)

********, should be non-reversible to list auction

I think the users get hit with a $30 late fee if you renew after the domain is in auction.

Hi,

Hi, for what you describe, if the domain is already in redemption period, then it already passed the GoDaddy Auction and Closeout stages. And then it went into redemption after that.
