The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The most was just over $500. I had a few others in the $200-$400 range.

And I was prepared to pay if I won, but I just felt the need to test their TBR mettle to see how deep this madness ran.

Pretty deep I guess.

And I should also mention that in most cases these auctions are between me and one other person, with a few having me and 2 other bidders. Like he bids $20 and I bid $35 (or vice versa) so these are NOT high-end domains with tons of active bidders.

That's why I call this "madness" as there is obviously little to no demand for these names outside of me and 1 other guy/gal, but I would bid virtually any amount and he/she would counter it over and over and over. I wanted the names cheap and have enough money to play around with these newbies, so I have taken them up to $300, $400, and in some cases, over $500 before I laughed and let them "win".

All for a low-end domain that initially had a high bid of $35.

Hopefully this makes you understand my POV a bit better.

let's keep this on a happy note, I will choose to read this in that tone.

Nothing wrong with some venting and this thread can be slow, DomainRecap has been keep it it alive for a long time.

There is no reason to get offended here so smoke a peace pipe and relax:)

Entertain, educate, share but don't get offended, no one knows each other's buying habits so nothing here is personal.

chill:)

well I am guilty of few things by posting on political topics:) it gets heated fast

has anyone in this thread figure out what the challenge button works?

This DomainRecap guy thinks he knows what he’s talking about. He’s made false statements about me when I never once said a word to him other than recently.

So I think it’s fair for me to call this guy for what he is. Full of BS and nonsense.

I'm all for free expression, but there was nothing personal in the posts, and it is helpful to differ. I am a bit torn about reporting sales and other info, for example, and prefer to keep things private. But NP is a very helpful community and full of information and developing trends.

If everyone would be thinking the same way, then someone would not be thinking:) borrowing it from a famous quote. If someone disagrees with me, then the bonus is less competition, but different opinions or criticism gives me valuable ideas to reflect on.

Anyone posting and sharing their experience adds value, so let's be grateful with a dose of humility.

There are a few interesting stats that kind of back of what I'm saying about the pandemic and the resultant shutdowns creating an artificially increased demand for digital properties like crypto, NFTs, domains, etc., a trend that has really exploded in 2021.

Here are is a range of months, along with the average number of TBR selections per month, and I think the trend is quite clear as we enter 2021 - even worse, many of the more recent TBR lists (such as the last two) are vastly inferior to many of those prior to it, but the trend continues unabated by quality or lack thereof.

July 2020 - 111 average weekly TBR domains selected
August 2020 - 101 average weekly TBR domains selected
September 2020 - 113 average weekly TBR domains selected
October 2020 - 101 average weekly TBR domains selected
November 2020 - 113 average weekly TBR domains selected
December 2020 - 117 average weekly TBR domains selected
January 2021 - 139 average weekly TBR domains selected
February 2021 - 173 average weekly TBR domains selected
March 2021 - 157 average weekly TBR domains selected

For a visual example, here is the kind of trend line we're looking at, with mostly stable numbers until we hit the end of 2020, then a drastic jump up in 2021, but seeming to level off and even drop a bit in March, where the TBR List quality took a serious dive.

I don't see this ending anytime soon, as the last 2 weeks in March were lower-end in terms of quality, but garnered 175 and 184 picks, respectively. Not that long ago, a good TBR week was 100 and an average one was in the 80's.

So cool....

go back 10 years ago

January 2011 - 238 average TBR names picked up

February 2011 - 266 average....

March 2011 - 237 average....

These numbers are meaningless and prove nothing. These numbers fluctuate for many reasons.

Don't rule out the internet growing factors. Even in canada. Starlink is active and giving massive speed gains to Alaska etc.. population world wide might be slowing in growth but it's still growing and internet access is about to blast off from current levels.

Looks like your trolling break lasted about 2 minutes. LOL

And how old are you, 100? You're always going back "10 years" when anyone with a brain realizes that Canada is a totally different country today than it was a decade ago. domain investment has totally changed from ancient times - hell Bitcoin was like $100 way back then, yet you pull those "old fogey" numbers out of your butt like they are somehow relevant to 2021.

Obviously you don't have a job, as if I was to walk into a meeting with a financial analysis based on numbers from 10 years ago, it would not go well. Stay current and stop blithering about "what happened a decade ago" when no one gives a crap about your old-man tales of yore. I know, you walked to school uphill, both ways.

Seriously, I post hard dats from the last year that clearly shows a definite trendline, and you counter with data from a decade ago. Seriously?

Yea seriously...because 10 years ago there were less registrations.

and 10 years from now there will be more domains dropping and more domains being picked up. You take one year and make it into a reality series. Get over yourself.

MORE people are going online. MORE people are buying domains.

The .CA space just hit 3,000,000 domains in November of 2020 and 5 months later it has already gained over 100,000 registrations.

Going forward I totally agree, but not right now. Business growth is way down, and only the large monolithic firms are showing increased profit. The small and mid-range companies are getting squeezed out and many are already out of business.

The only valid reason for a trendline like this is if domain sales were way, way, way up from the last few years, and I see absolutely no evidence of this. There are still sales going on (i am still selling), but it's lower now (Nov-Jan was bad) and certainly not at a level needed to fund this type of wild TBR expansion in both numbers and price.

I am siding with the experts who state this rise in digital properties is because we are not allowed to socialize or travel, and this gives he more affluent an avenue for their missing spending habits. And that once things even get back to half-normal, the bubble will burst.

Is it a good time to sell some .ca?
Dont want to interupt

It's certainly better than the last few months, and I had a pretty good March - 5 sales, 4-figure, and all inbound through GD or Sedo.

Inquiries are steady, but there seems to be more money out there and businesses are willing to at least try and meet your price. In Nov-Jan there was a lot of lowballing that just went nowhere and everyone was looking for a deal. Now it's a bit better and hopefully April shows more improvement.

Conversely, you need to watch out for buying .CA on the TBR, as I've been tracking this stuff for years and use my own algorithm and ranking system, and both overall TBR numbers and auction prices are much higher due to the same "pandemic bump" that is affecting NFTs and crypto.

Idle hands are the Devil's workshop, and all that.

I havent touched tbr in years.
Were they bin, and afternic or godaddy auctions? I make no effort to sell and dont use godaddy auctions just afternic make offer on ones that are for sale. Really havent paid much attention to .ca portfolio, just keepers. Thanks for sharing all info previously(y)

Make Offer at GD and Sedo.

I would definitely list everything at GD, as most of "offer action" takes place there, though fewer sales. Lots of eyes at GD, but not everyone has a wallet.

Ah the TBR... I keep saying I'm selling all my .ca's but each week a few .ca's still seem to make their way into my account.. lol.

I posted this a while back else where... I have put a list of @150 .ca domains that I have and looking to wholesale them to other domainers. If anyone is interested I can send the list just PM.

thanx.

This one of the worst TBR weeks I've seen in a while, but with all the Pandemic Petes in "Gold Rush" mode, expect 150+ selections once again.

Good luck with your wholesaling Dan.

Who knows what word is tops on the TBR this week?

And I was a bit off... a massive 203 domains were selected.

No, we're not in a bubble. LOL

I will wait for the second opinion on this matter:) It feels like there are also a lot more eyeballs looking at the TBR. I am curious how much money in total gets spent on the TBR.

Idle hands are the Devil's workshop, and with COVID there are a LOT of idle hands out there, stuck at home, and just ready to waste all kinds of money by taking part in all manner of "digital investment".

There are a lot more eyes, more money, more picks, more everything happening right now on all digital properties, but as domains lack liquidity, it's incredibly dangerous to just wade into the TBR with a big bag of money.

Right now, I just buy what I can at the price I am comfortable with, and will let God and Darwin sort out the rest.

I know one thing for sure, that there is no way that people can keep buying .CA domains at these inflated price and quantity levels and not end up in a cardboard box at the end of it all. At some point they're going to a) stop tossing money out the window and move into some other hobby or b) run out of available cash.

And another big weekly TBR result (from a very weak list) of 177 .CA picks, which means the April average so far sits at a massive 190 domains/week. Whoa!

I don't know how it happens:) I go to sleep satisfied there is nothing interesting on TBR and somehow by morning there are 10 names ordered:(

Speaking of that, I totally missed Medallion this week.

It must have dropped extremely mate, as I looked at teh CIRA site all week and a final times on Sunday evening and it wasn't there. I didn't have a lot of time on Monday or Tuesday, and then I see it picked up near the top of the TBR results.
