In the process of purchasing the com.td domain, and curious to see what you all think it is worth. I believe it could be highly valuable for multiple reasons:
- it is a literal country code TLD subdomain
- can wildcard subdomain so that (anything).com.td directs where I want
- it sounds like “.com TLD”
- short length
- apparently plenty of backlinks
Hopefully the Chad registry don’t mind me keeping hold of it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Honestly, I don't think you have really registered that domain unless the registrar you registered it with is wrong having you believe that you did..

.com.td should be reserved by the registry and never (or almost never) expire for anyone to register it.

I’m purchasing it at the moment via Dan.com but yes, it does seem unusual and it makes little sense, hence why I’m checking here. I have not finalised the transfer yet. There are no domains registered under it that I can find, so it appears to have been abandoned almost. Dan.com staff informed me it is registered in normal periods that somehow don’t show up in the whois data. Overall quite confusing, but it would be a valuable domain if it actually is being used like this.

I would hold the purchase and contact the registry first but that's me.

btw.
I ran a whois check and here is what came up:

Notice the 'TD NIC Reserved' registrar? That gives a good indication of what I said earlier to be true.

Again, better contact the registry about this.

As @Hypersot says above this is a reserved domain name for the Chad registry, please ask whoever you are supposedly buying the domain name from to give proof of ownership and permission to transfer the domain to you.

In other words I smell a rat, otherwise known as 'a scam'.

Could it be that the domain is actully an IDN???? Even if it is I would steer clear of it personally.

The only reason I’m going through with it at all is because it is being handled fully by the reputable escrow service Dan.com who presumably verify the ownership of domains. I have also contacted the registry and I’m waiting for a response. Will have to see what happens, but I agree that it does seem like an unusual situation and possible scam attempt. It’s not an IDN by the way. It seems to actually be registered and pointing to a Chinese web hosting service.

@Vallax - Contact your broker at Dan and ask if this is an IDN, they should be able to refute or confirm such very quickly, likely much quicker than the Chad registry is likely to respond to you.

Hope this helps.

I’m in talks with them, and will check it is not an IDN. It certainly isn’t listed as one, the characters are completely normal letters. Thanks

It doesn't seem to be an IDN :

However, the seller won't be able to transfer it and so, as you are using an escrow platform, you should be safe (and will receive a refund after a few days plus maybe bank holidays)

It's a .TD second level domain, like com.au, co.uk. check nic.td, the operator of the namespace. See Wikipedia for more info:

This is what I meant to say with “country code subdomain”. Valuable if saleable.

Yes I think this is a likely possibility. I’ll give it some time on the off-chance that they have permission from the registry and transfers can be enabled somehow. Safe with escrow services

Yes, it would be but if it even actually is owned by someone other than TDNIC and for sale, be assured something fishy is going on.

It's TDNIC reserved. They're selling 3rd level domains on it. Imagine if someone sold co.uk... that would endanger about the entire British namespace.

Furthermore, in the event the domain for some strange reason was compromised, be assured TDNIC will claw back the name to safeguard the namespace.

Com.td isn't resolving for me. Did you land on it or did you find it at DAN?

I initially assumed that the Chad registry had just decided not to use it any more, there is no “com.uk” for example. I can’t imagine the registry would have been hacked like this, but who knows. I’m trying to contact the registry to confirm with them, and will likely cancel the sale unless they directly let me know it is their intention. The domain is rendering for me (eventually), and it is pointed to a Chinese web hosting service giving an error. Both.

I don't see any NS or A record using DNSchecker. Are you using a different resolver?

It loads for me directly in safari, but not in other browsers. No idea why. It is like this imgur.com/a/pKRRWee

Hello all, I have found out what the issue is. The domain is (www . com . td) but on Dan it was listed as just (com . td). Safari adds (www .) when going to (com . td), while my other browsers such as chrome etc do not. Any subdomain would be (subdomain . www . com . td) Cancelling the transaction as this would be much less valuable. I prefer the other (www) ones they have like (www . ht).
