Hello Guys

What Technology Will Replace Domain Names ?
I Googled This Question But I Can't See Any Potential Technology Will Replace It In Near Future Maybe We Can Say That's Impossible Before 20-30 Years From Now .

Hope To hear Your Thoughts

My Regards

I do not think there will be a technology that will replace domain names and one of the reason is that they are not only domains but also business names and it's hard to run a business without a name

Hard to say, there will no doubt become a time when domain names are redundant, everything is becoming connected to the net and with that i doubt there will be a need for a *keyword* dot com 50 years now, a www dot com seems quite outdated even today (with apps and what not), but still strong, infact stronger than ever.

VR/AR in my opinion has potenital to end domain names.

Blend Ai/VR/AR/Human Augmentation/Cybernetics/Genetics/Robotics etc and we will start to develop a better "human"....the term will become obsolete in the future, but the term will do for now.......

A global organism that has Centillions (+) of neural connections from each individual and machine that are merged and can download, upload, share, explore, experience, learn and be in multiple places, spaces and dimensions at the same time and are connected from central nodes/brains - a shared conscious/symbiosis of humans and machines......

Far away, no ned to fret as it won't replace domains anytime soon but dam I wish could be around to see it........

I might need to lay of the sci fi and tech journals (and more importantly fiction).......but you didn't specify a timeframe :xf.wink:

Why do you think the domain name space will become redundant with billions of people using it?

There is too much money and technology already invested in it, to warrant replacing it.

Telephone numbers are 140-years old, and still in use.

But.......they are fading out

Traditional calls converted to mobile which have converted to WhatsApp etc which are converting to Zoom etc.....

I'm not that much of a techy but phone numbers will be become obsolete..........

Did anything replace street addresses? Or company names? Or personal names?

No jokes;
your question is framed in a disingenuous way.
I dont believe they will get replaced, if at all.

You may believe’ll get replaced — i’m all ears

i guess you’re right.
Remember when TVs thick; ball in mouse;
and AOL Dial Up? Now it’s Broadband 5G.
Realistically, and i swear not joking.
6G? in 20 years.
Maybe we’ll have flying taxis cars by then.

Space travel Mars and Moon?
Autonomous driving and AI.
Elon Musk’s Neurolink; possibly.

Why access the internet for info?
When you have infinite knowledge constantly uploaded to your brain via chip implant.. LOL
You pose a fascinating question;
Few things transcends domain names;

Blockchain domains. Distributed web. Still need names but with a distributed system nobody has control, so for instance Google won't be able to tell us which sites are popular, GoDaddy won't be able to block domain names even with a court order.

By coincidence I've been checking out some of this stuff this evening. The potential is simply mind blowing. I've just bought a domain name with no renewal fees, ever, and nobody can relinquish it or take it away from me unless I decide they can have it.
