Brent Oxley, the founder of HostGator, has been accruing a portfolio of ultra-premium domain names since he sold his hosting company for close to $300 million in 2013.

With purchases such as Give.com for $500,000, Broker.com for $375,000, and Texas.com for $1,007,500, Oxley has spent millions of dollars over the past few years accumulating this collection. According to his website, the portfolio is worth more than $25 million.

Oxley has now, however, lost access to a proportion of his portfolio

It's a real shame to be put in a position of begging for something that is already yours not to mention having paid a large sum to acquire.

It's pretty scary to think TOS exist that give a registrar the right to lock a domain for ANY reason, at it's sole discretion, at any time.

It's difficult to comment confidently without knowing all the surrounding details, but as a US based registrar, we would request the Indian Court to work with their US counterpart and bring this civil court case there. In these types of situations, we typically work with the relevant stakeholders to understand the situation and act accordingly.

We aim to protect our customers where and when possible. However, we do also enforce legitimate court orders. Also, we would allow the registrant time to appeal their case and honor their rights to due process, as we do with UDRP cases.

How are so many of you posting above so foolish about this? Using "whataboutism" regarding meat and overpopulation.

There's a difference between hunting deer and pigs versus hunting ANIMALS THAT ARE GOING EXTINCT!

And it doesn't even matter if the giraffes are pampered and spoonfed, the problem is that they're going extinct and should be kept in their native habitat, to help maintain genetic diversity and natural behaviours. If someone really wants to help, they should fund habitat there, instead of taking them out and putting them in an artificial habitat in Texas.

In addition, there are only small numbers of some animals left that Oxley has. I wrote above about how there are only 28,000 bongo antelopes left. And as of 2016, there are apparently only 6000 Arabian Oryx left in the world... and yet Oxley is letting people hunt (actually more like slaughter) them too.

You losing money is irrelevant, no one asked you to import foreign animals into Texas. You taking them out of their habitat just speeds up possible extinction.

Why are you importing exotic animals to Texas and then letting people slaughter them?

The ones who get killed are probably the best ones too, so it's anti-Darwinian that way... "killing of the fittest", not "survival of the fittest".

I'd happily shut down all hunting tomorrow if someone wanted to pay our bills. It's easy for people to say what's right and wrong without actually doing anything themselves to make a difference.

The problem is that the "difference" you are making is negative. Why did you open in the first place?

The fact some of you are hinting that I should lose my property and domains simply
because you disagree with my views is not a only threat to freedom but a threat to life itself.

I don't think you should lose your domains, I just think what you've done is terrible. It's more of a negative for the world than Agarwal's activities.

In the vast majority of cases, we have not locked down domains when asked to without a legitimate court order. The only situations would be extreme cases where there is potential abuse or criminality involved.

It is not a secret that both Left and Right ideologies have infiltrated the domain Industry and big tech in general.

In the past people used to take over newspapers and TV or Radio channels in order to control the political environment by influencing the way that the general public thought.

Nowadays that everyone has moved to the Internet the same people are trying to keep their influence over the people by having control over their digital presence and activities through Registrars, Registries, Hosting, Search Engine, and ISP companies.

Look at Godaddy and Epik which seem to be at opposite end of the political and ideological spectrum and who are constantly at each others throat,

So I understand your concern about some political factors being present in this case, but if we want to be completely fair and unbiased then we have to protect the Registrants from All political and ideological sides and influences.

I have been using both Godaddy and Epik and consider them as my favorite Registrars, but their totally opposing ideologies is concerning to me as to what happens to Registrants who happen to hold an opposing view to their Registrar (any Registrar that is).

So I understand your concerns, but lets find a way to protect the Registrants' Rights across the whole Industry regardless of any differences of ideology amongst all the Registrars and Registrants.

Another thing to take note of (whether here or on sites like thedomains.com) is that that there's really only been a few different "leaders" in the domain investing arena that have bothered to comment on this serious subject. I find that VERY telling (although not shocking) that many leaders in this industry are intentionally avoiding commenting on this entire subject. Some will likely claim that they are merely "waiting for more details to emerge". Fair to some extent. However, who wants to bet that if this particular case involved one of them as opposed to Oxley, that literally EVERY leader in the domain industry would be shouting and screaming the moment it happened? Perhaps many of these people's gut instinct is that this particular issue has been driven by something in addition to GoDaddy's crappy TOS? Perhaps they don't get the sense that they're personally at risk of this very thing happening to them? Hard to tell.

Australia is one of if the not the most prominent anti-hunting and gun countries in the world, and yet they slaughter around 5 million kangaroos annually according to government reports. (Gray, 2013). The independent.co.uk reports 1.5 million were murdered in 2015 to protect grasslands and wildlife. (Bulman 2017). The worst thing is that I’d be surprised if they harvest even a small percentage of this slaughter for food!

What do you do with populations that don’t have predators and whose numbers keep growing? Should we let these animals starve to death when the land can’t support them?

It’s funny how many people are anti-hunting but support what Peta is doing. According to the HuffingtonPost Peta took in $51,933,000 in donations in 2014, while simultaneously murdering 81% of the of animals at it’s Norfolk, Virginia shelter (Greenwood, 2015). Ox Ranch takes in $0 in donations, is losing millions of dollars, and hunts just a few percent of our animals a year.

It’s horrible to hear this, but if there were a viable alternative for these animals, I’m confident Peta would be doing it.

There are somewhere around 550,000 whitetail deer hunted a year in Texas with an additional 100,00 killed from car accidents (Tompkins, 2008). I can’t even begin to imagine how many car accidents there would be if the state didn’t offer hunting permits to control their population. The accident totals would continue to compound as the grass in the fields becomes further overgrazed, and the highway grass became more desired.

Any solution besides hunting, euthanizing, culling, or whatever else you may call it, is a band-aid solution until funding or food runs out. Eventually, Earth’s population is going to hit an unsustainable number, and humanity is going to have to make some difficult decisions. We either figure out a cheap form of space travel and colonization or be destined to a future filled with wars and famine.

It’s all about sustainability, without sustainability there is no long-term solution. We have many endangered species at Ox Ranch, and while we hunt a few, their numbers continue to grow while shrinking in their native lands.

There’s rarely a perfect solution, but the fact is what we’re doing in Texas works, provides meat on the table, brings tax revenue in, and is saving many species from the brink of extinction such as the scimitar-horned oryx, addax, and dama gazelle. (Freemantle, 2012).

@oldtimer I believe that's the entire point of this thread is it not? We need to get to the bottom of what happened here, and protect all registrants, regardless of their ideology. (if that has played part here)

If this does turn out to be the case, a scammer wouldn't even need to spend money to file! They could just as easily photoshop a document with a dispute and there's a good chance Godaddy will lock the domains down and require a court order to unlock them.

There's been a few people on here asking if names at Uniregistry are safe from this scam. I can't answer this, but I can tell you that I bought viaje.com from the Uniregistry.com marketplace, and when I ask them why they didn't tell me about selling me a name that was disputed, they said this..

Thedomains is really one of the few who bothered mentioning it. Yet not a peep from most of you, despite the fact that you'll typically attempt to comment the moment significant, breaking news occurs, even with very few details at hand.
