information Brent Oxley Loses Access to Create.com, Plus Millions of Dollars Worth of His Domains

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Brent Oxley, the founder of HostGator, has been accruing a portfolio of ultra-premium domain names since he sold his hosting company for close to $300 million in 2013.

With purchases such as Give.com for $500,000, Broker.com for $375,000, and Texas.com for $1,007,500, Oxley has spent millions of dollars over the past few years accumulating this collection. According to his website, the portfolio is worth more than $25 million.

Oxley has now, however, lost access to a proportion of his portfolio

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
For anyone needing to transfer Epik is offering 7.49 no code needed, NC has $7.28 with code
COUPONFCNC and Dynadot is 7.99 with code COMOVER21.

Tried to tell the ClubHouse folks but sometimes its hard to get the mic. In my mind, you are risking your domains if you stay at GoDaddy. They have proven time and time again they are not in domainers corner.

I know the owner of newish registrar sav.com is quite active here and tons people going there cause of some below avg io prices and good few other regfees..

maybe he can comment too..this way public statements like these made by owners are essentially guarantee against future problems of this kind.

we will never hear from places like ionos 1and1 I guess..and few more..but let's take what we can get so to speak...

It's actually not a bad idea at all @Samer to ask the top holders of the NYSE:GDDY stock how they feel about this.

Didn't check them all, but at least one top holder of the Godaddy stock is using their services (and not MarkMonitor or CSC). I hope they get all the protection they deserve.

First of all, why was Brent even dealing with a guy like Puneet?

I think we are missing a lot more to this story,

I think there is some illegal activity going on where Puneet has insider friends at godaddy to find Brent all these one word domains to buy at discount prices.

So GoDaddy blocked Brent’s names until they get things cleared up.

that’s my guess

millionaires live in diff worlds..deal with diff people...I mean mr brent has some kinda tank driving shooting biz on his ranch while zooming between giraffes..or so tells Google.. I mean who here has tanks giraffes.. or even a ranch..

so yea as u say no judging but often in life most stories have deeper meanings...especially when one is as mr brent literally part of internet's history with his brilliant hosting or other ventures... sometimes some just get jealous.. other times its other things.. but the issue at hand is great names locked that should not be.. and that's just a danger to all domainers big and small.

someone had gone so far ...any mental problem ?
a lesson for everyone , should not try any non reputation stranger broker or must follow the normal legal way to authority any deal and sign the agency agreement first ,otherwise real trouble as this will become a nightmare no-win situation.

@Paul Nicks you better have an answer for this one

GoDaddy,USA company has already confirmed to me in writing that only and only Indian court ruling will be followed by them related to any court order regarding these domain names.

Or it's about to get real spicy

In a situation such as this one, there is only one option really. Spell it out and take the consequences, if you spell it out professionally it will have milder repercussions than secrecy. Every time.

THE COURT: All right. Hi, Mr. Carsey. I do not do, generally, ex parte TROs, and so my case manager did try to reach out to the defendant and did advise Mr. Agarwal that we would be doing this hearing today by Zoom. He did not want to -- he had some, I don't know, hesitation about using Zoom because he didn't think it was a secure platform. Probably isn't, but, nonetheless, that's what we're using

Mr. Carsey: We found out about the Indian case when GoDaddy.com, LLC, earlier this year informed us that, Hey, we've locked them because GoDaddy has been made aware that they've been sued in India.
THE COURT: So you guys are involved in that India litigation, as I understand it, correct?
MR. CARSEY: No, we're not. My client has not been served.

Furthermore, if Godaddy can do this to Brent's portfolio valued in millions of dollars, what they won't do to the rest of their clients?

They spent more money on stock buybacks,
than Uni in the same year.

That's great, I mean very 2020.

Texas.... 'Merica!

I searched giphy.com for "Texas flag" and noticed a DriveTanks.com gif was on page one. Probably not fitting for this thread, so removed. Anyways, hook em horns!

@Nick R

Not CEO (!!! i think CTO...
Where’s Sav’s CEO? 🤔 (aka owner i assume)
Sav also needs to add “phone support.”
100% only snail mail (email) Disagree with this

Amazingly, not much better than Godaddy.
Sav’s only tie-breaker; support the small biz!

  • When [email protected] emailed Brent in January 2020 to tell him that per documents filed, what document was that? If it was something similar to: Exhibit 5, then they can clearly see the history of the case hearing, which states "awaiting services of notices/ summons".

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Simply filing a lawsuit is certainly not a court order.

It seems like whoever "Lisa" is in this email has no idea what she is talking about.

There is some( intriguing?) back story which we are not aware.

The back story in this case as interesting and intriguing as it might be but as far as domainers are concerned it is irrelevant to the fact that Registrants Rights should be the same across all Registrars and no domain name should be locked without a proper court order from an applicable jurisdiction or an official request by the proper law enforcement agencies.

IMO

Interesting quotes from the court record:
THE COURT: Here's how you simplify it: Agarwal is an asshole, and you want me to make him stop being an asshole. That's simplifying it because that's literally what this is, at the end of the day. I don't have any ability to do that. I don't have any ability to do that.
MR. CARSEY: Well, Your Honor --
THE COURT: These stupid text messages, they're dumb. Can I -- can I make him stop sending these dumb text messages? No, not really.
So that's not evidence of a tortious interference with a contract. He did what he wanted to do in pursuing litigation.GoDaddy is not actually violating the contract. They're actually acting in conformance with the contract -- with their contractual rights, and their contractual right is to go ahead and put a hold on the domain names while they wait to see what the outcome of the other litigation might be.

A time limit (like with a UDRP-process) should apply to any litigation notice with the potential to freeze assets - at the very least. That would mean that contacting the registrar about a dispute would only be done when there is something actually happening in it.

Though, www.FireAman.com is likely more of a relevant redirect to this thread, to further press GoDaddy for an authentic (not cookie cutter deflecting) response to Brent with future community assurances that safeguards will be put into place so that legal filings will be properly reviewed instead of erroneously applied. #FireAman

1. Why was it necessary to lock all of these high profile domains? Could they simply have been prevented from transfer?
Tom, Paul Nicks addressed this earlier. Brent's domains have complete function, with the exception of being transferred. Paul indicates that this is for everyone's protection.

My personal thoughts: That's fine if we're talking about a few hours or days, but this situation has been drawn out already and precludes Brent from the freedom of reacting properly to the market. It's pretty clear that Brent's the victim here. I'd recommend that Brent contact the Internet Commerce Association, as GD's terms have such a huge impact on All of GD's clients (and not just us domainers). GoDaddy should be going out of their way to resolve this quickly and to make good with Brent. Meanwhile, add me to the list of domainers who will be transferring my relatively small portfolio from Uni/GD.

i’m sure that’s how domainers feel.
And domain investor enthusiasts.

Fortunately for Aman, shareholders enjoy excellent returns.

I read the entire transcript. I suppose it's too much to ask for our court system to produce a tech literate judge for this case. I mean seriously, she didn't even understand what a domain broker is, nor did she grasp how harassing brokers or potential suitors of Brent's domains is damaging to Brent's business. This is utterly absurd. The U.S. is in deep shit.

I don’t think counsel did a great job either. The judges’ questions were legitimate.
