I think Epik is building the best ever Domain Lander in the history of domaining, and it really needs to be talked about extensively. That's why I am creating this discussion thread. A lot of thought process really goes into the project. And I can see (for the first time) a landing page that is built from the stand point of domainers rather than for just the marketplace itself.

Everything you have ever dreamt of getting or seeing in a professional landing page can be found in the new Epik marketplace landing page design.

Some of my Favorites Features:

1. The ability to optimize your "domain for sale" landing page to actually rank on Google, displaying your sales pitch/domain description. I just did that with few of my generic domain names such as ASAP.TV, targeting certain keywords, and they are showing pretty well on Google. That's a huge plus in my marketing effort.

2. Being able to change background image is another huge one for me. If you are good with pictures and images, you will surely find this very useful. I did that with Nagasaki.org and the result was truly amazing, showing the city of Nagasaki right at the background.

There are too many positive features and I don't want to mention all of them, all alone :xf.grin::xf.grin:

So I am leaving you guys to share and discuss what you loves most or dislike about the new Epik marketplace and the landing pages.

The only negative for me is the checkout process. There are too many terms and conditions buttons to tick before checking out. It will be nice if they can streamline those into one beautiful big button :xf.cool:

They also need to place the checkout button directly under the payment options. Right now it is awkwardly place somewhere below at the sidebar, which I don't find cool at all.

Sales experience is also welcomed in this discussion. I haven't had any sells so far at Epik because I started using the marketplace just recently, but the future is looking so bright.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
this was my first renewals now..

so am I seeing right and basically epik is quickest of all registrars to remove our expired names from panel...disallow transfer out..and tag redemption fee to renew or restore...and all this after a record (in a bad way) 15 days past expiry? someone confirm. ty.

p.s. or does at least unlocking them before that and getting auth codes let me transfer them out after?

They lock them down (gray lock)the day they expire. If you want to transfer out you have to do it before exp. They also put your name on Epik landers 2 days max after exp. The normal restore or renew after the exp date was 2 years but CS can change that to one year.

Epik has quite a good advantage, epik has always been the domain investors base company.
There are several benefits to Domain from epik, which no other registrar will offer for free.

And there are several non domainer friendly policies which we are free to not like and discuss.

tnx but I dont think it's TRUE

just today I transfered out..unlocked and got code.. for a name 9 days expired... it was in my panel..so I had no issues getting code...

but then I noticed all names 15 days expired or more are out of my panel..into expired section where all u can do is click 90$.redeem button.

if this is true .and 15 days is all they give ya...then it's by far lowest anywhere...and frankly it does look bad on epik record.

Well that must be new. For months I haven’t been able to transfer out after exp. wish they kept us informed about any positive changes. The normal grace period is 14-15 days(unless you ask them to give you a longer grace) and then it leaves your account. Not sure what the redemption price is at that point.

well that's what I meant that during what u call normal 15 day grace period...we can renew...get code... transfer out..

unless I'm misunderstanding u

in either case epik rule seems to be no more renew or transfer out aftr they leave the main panel... unless unlocking them before ..and getting code will work.

maybe @Rob Monster can officially confirm

tnx

When did it expire? After 15 days they will grab your domain and list it for sale themselves. After a while they will send it to their bargain bin. If it doesn't sell, they will send the domain to a 3rd party to be auctioned off as an expired auction domain.

Haven't kept track that much but this is what I noticed. Feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

as I said I was talking about names expired 15 days or more.

So I just did a small private sale through Epik. All good. Seems it now forces the buyer to pay for an additional renewal if the domain expires within 90 days. not cool.

My experience was few days before expiration, but 90 days? Wow! I dare users to vote for epik for best registrar again.

Yes, most probably 90 days as the domain in question was not to expire untill early June.

Edit: I wouldn't really mind on bigger sales but when you're liquidating for $50-$100 a forced renewal to keep it at Epik is quite the markup for a buyer.

well in the end a forced anything does suck.

it's like sedo asking seller to renew name b4 transfer if it expires less.than 30 or 60 days of now...I forget which one.

in either case why do it if we can easily trnasfer name all way into 30 or so days past expiry

but tos is tos they say

True. It is what it is... No biggie. It works fast and flawless so that's also worth something.

( initially I suspected this could be a new wave of censorship)

(Edit: looks like this thing has been fixed.)

Anybody knows how to send MasterBucks directly to someone else? The send button doesn't appear in my account.

AFAIK it can't be done yet. It will be great when it can be...

Ok, thanks. That would make life much easier dealing with MB. Would probably cost them sales commissions so they're probably not in a hurry :).

Sometimes I see delays up to 10-30 seconds to open my parked domains or Epik website...
Please recheck your nameservers, CDN and uptime overall... Somewhere is bottleneck definitely.
Or you live under permanent DDoS???

Yes, I was about to post the same thing.

Something has definitely changed recently and not for the better.

@Rob Monster can you please have your team check on this?

Maybe they're using OVH :)

Thankfully there was no critical dependence on OVH. That is pretty tragic what happened there -- an estimated 3.6 million websites went down, many with no off-site backups.

As for the page load time, it is about 1 second to render the page, which is not bad. We'll see where the gaps might be regionally.

If folks see specific optimization areas, of course we are never too proud to ignore great advice.

Thanks. Good to know. Kept me busy all day, most I'm hosting will failover to hotspares but there's always people not keeping remote backups etc. I think they need to replace about 10K servers. Don't envy them :)

On topic, from EU, NL I'm experiencing the occasional slow loading of the website/login or some errors being thrown at me but that usually doesn't last more than a couple of minutes.
