I've been thinking recently on a better way to keep track of domains besides manually keeping track in Excel.

Sure some registrars help with this but unless you are tied up with one registrar, it doesn't go well, plus they don't have a good way of keeping track of expenses and profits.

How do you keep track of your domains? If it's software, which? Why do you choose such means?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Pretty similar, I also jot into a calendar though the days around when a domain will drop just in case even though I never needed the reminder because I remember anyway.

I usually renew in bi-monthly blocks so I just need to remember to log in again at the start of the month. I did forget once many years ago, and consequently dropped a handful of my best.

Now I write the month down on a post-it note and stick it to my monitor.

If you aren't making sales on a regular basis then your domains are nothing more than a liability. They aren't serving you. What's the point in having 200 domain names and they aren't growing in value, or delivering a return on investment?

Quality over quantity is my mantra. I focus on domain names worth $5000 or more. And I set the price point because I know what I bring to the table when it comes to the domains in my portfolio. I rotate between domains as I sell them because I need a set amount of time to develop value around them.

Timing is everything. My volume is low, my ROI is high. And that's how I keep up with my domains.

Efty is good, and at least Dynadot, Epik and NameSilo have the option to add external domains.

It also looks like https://domain.io/ will soon offer a new option, although I am not quite sure how it will work.

https://domain.io/ really looks promising, thank you for sharing! I hope they will launch soon :) I'm currently using Excel and sometimes set some extra Google Calendar reminders. It basically does the trick, I have the data I need organized, but it doesn't feel very efficient and I would love to try something better.

I just found an interview with the founder of Domain.io in which he tells more about the functionality of it. Here's the link: https://tldinvestors.com/2021/02/domain-io.html

I focus on 10k+, anything under that doesn't exite me, not even a little. However, value has nothing to do with this thread we are purely focusing on how you keep track of your domains, it doesn't matter what the value is or how many you have.

For .pl I use a single registrar - it helps that these domains are free to transfer and only have a 5-day lock.
But my gTLD / ccTLD portfolio is a mess. I try my best with excel but it's a pain nevertheless.

Excel can be an incredible tool to manage domains. I'm nearing 20k and it does a great job. Especially if you can enhance it with a little VBA code, but not necessarily.

Because I also keep many notes about each domain on the one line, I've found that I need to use my 42-inch TV monitor just to read and edit the spreadsheet effectively.

Just how old ARE you? :-P

jk. As for myself, I just keep text files on my desktop broken down by registrar (some files combine two registrars). But I have fewer than 200 names. Is it efficient? Just barely. Otherwise I would recommend a proper spreadsheet.

I use the chalkboard in the kids playroom. Handy for quick modifications, but it's a b!tch when they erase it to play hangman.. luckily the hangman portion always seems to be on the drop section.

One registrar approach works for me. Currently have 9000 names with GD and I download the cvs file from time to time for my own records and analytics.

In my opinion, Excell will be a good choice. And also it would be easier if you gather all your domain names with one registrar.

I do not own a bulk sum of domains, I register and go for very specific domains, on a total of 3 different registrars...keep life less complicated just logging in using the registrar manager

I use Notion to keep track of my Domains + some resources and tools I use.
I also release it free to use at https://domainsos.xyz.
Feel free to use and duplicate the Notion Dashboard and comment your feedback.
