A remarkable thing just happened for the domaining industry!

Coinbase Global, a fully remote company just filed for a direct listing of a Billion dollars on Nasdaq.

Domain Names are the undisputed King Of Digital Assets.

How is this related to the domain industry?

How is this related to the domain industry?

Their filing says 'Address Not Applicable' and to do that I imagine a business must be online, and you would need a Domain name.

To quote @Rick Schwartz

"Domains have power. Domains can be built and rebuilt. Invented and reinvented. Moved from one part of the world to another part of the world in a split second.

The two have Synergy but domains are so much more interesting! With domains and earnings, I can buy bitcoin. With bitcoin I can save. That’s the difference!

And my point is that I believe domains will overtake bitcoin within the next five years as the single biggest prize on earth. It’s been the biggest prize for decades already but it has never truly been discovered for the value and power and future and remaking abilities that it has.

There is simply no other investment on earth I’d rather be holding than domain names."

Isn't this a crypto company? ie. their business is online *anyway*
Why get so excited for something like that?

What would excite me would be when I learned that 0% of companies had no websites for their business.
(I think at the moment the ratio is 1/3 or 1/4). Now, that would be news to be excited with :)

This is a stretch at best to conflate this to the domain industry. How many people actually visit physical offices of "IT companies", SAAS service providers etc.? You know, there also these small little gadgets called phones which allows businesses to be available remotely. By your logic, this news is fantastic for phone service providers as well? Oh, and there are also non-domain services (technically, you can access a website directly using their IP address) that allow a business to be available. Isn't this news a game-changer for all of them?

Sure. Domains might become/are more valuable than Bitcoin. This news, however, has no relevance or direct relationship to the domain name industry.

There is more to this than meets the eye, adoption of Bitcoin as a means of denominating value will mean extreme liquidity for the domain industry. As more people realize that Bitcoin is a necessity to transact freely, more people will realize the same about domain names being a necessary means of survival for their enterprise.

The wave of Bitcoin adoption is at a point of horizon, I would argue domains are trailing shortly behind as more productive individuals start to populating the best digital assets with tangible value to earn Bitcoin, more domains will be in demand.

Although I wouldn't work with CoinBase today, they have helped to build this momentum for years, I transacted my first full BTC domain sale using their internal transfer process back in 2016!

Not a game changer per se, but nontheless a remarkable event for a business that fundamentally relies on a Domain Name.

It is quite ironic that they are claiming a decentralised Status when their offices, domain and website although global aren't technically decentralised.

Decentralised Domains.....hmmm :watching:

I really do not understand what is there in this news to be so excited? A Crypto company is applying for direct listing at Nasdaq has nothing to with domain industry. Much ado for nothing.

You are right ..There is a difference between a Bitcoin and a Domain ..but who am I to challenge your predictions ? By your post it’s A cryptocurrency that is trying to invade the “domain industry” .......I’m so lost like I’m in the Amazon Jungle

I didn’t expect everyone would see value in this news.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

In the blockchain space there is an emerging craze regarding NFTs - non-fiction tokens which includes digital art and blockchain domain names. What I find odd is that most blockchain projects in the space are using reg fee new extension domains. Yes, startups may not want to spend limited resources on a six-figure domain but their branding is also limited by their domain selection. Since most of the world does not view domains in the same light as domain investors, they view domain selection very differently. How much time do people working from home during covid spend on selecting their work clothes for the day?

every domain name has an actual address otherwise it wouldnt be able to be bought or paid for via an online payment method etc

having no address would make the whois database void as anyone without an address could buy a domain but they cant because domain name accounts are verified by an email address which is linked to an actual address so initially all domains purchases have to be bought by someone or company that has a physical address that is used to buy a digital address eg a domain name although this could change over time
