I have a current maximum total of $3,200 and I'm wanting to buy a specific .org domain for my future non-profit company.

The current owner is no longer using the domain and are in the process of developing a new site at at the new address. (Which they are forwarding the original address to)

I'm happy for them to continue forwarding and also using email etc. for up to 12 months... The main thing is that I aquire the domain for future use.

What services are out there? Are they any good at getting results?

I did try and reach out, but the email address might be an old one (got it from the whois about a year ago) whois is now hidden.

I'm guessing brokers have methods to find current contact info, and are also excellent negotiators.. bringing trust and authority with them to ameliorate any fears the domain owner might have about getting scammed.

I'm also guessing they are excellent negotiators and also have done it so many times that they have all the right things down to say.

I myself am more on the selling side, and only have going for me sincerity and openness, which does often do the trick.

This ones important to me though. So anything to increase my chances I'm going to take.

Their biggest concern will be what will be done with this domain. If they have material or old links to the domain and suddenly people going there will find things that they view as problematic.

A broker worth something will tell you to create a website, a cheap looking site with your current org so when they contacts them they can see who this is and view is as a domain upgrade (way less desperate) and also makes them stop thinking maybe a giant billionaire is behind the contact.

The main issue though will be if they think a lot of traffic will be lost because of this sale. Without knowing anything, I cannot commit better.

If a broker contacts me it’s a sign of a serious buyer who is looking to spend more than $3200.

You can still contact someone with private who is. I would do that first.

There is nothing more genuine than contacting yourself and having an open discussion. Broker involvement at this level is not needed and risks them seeing $$$$$

I'm guessing

I'm also guessing

Hi

stop guessing....
stop assuming...

the label of "broker" does not come automatically with:
"methods to find current contact info, nor should one assume they are all excellent negotiators..
or that they automatically bring trust or authority with them to ameliorate any fears the domain owner might have about getting scammed
"

for you or anyone else to "assume" that anyone who claims to be a broker, has these traits, skills and level of experience and contacts, then you, could be scammed or mislead, if you believe it to be true, without doing background research.

imo...

Now it is you who are doing a lot of assuming.

I'd personally only go with someone with a proven track record, website, history, and personal recommendation by someone with a good reputation on Namepros.

Otherwise... it's as you say... anyone can call themselves a broker :)

All I'm doing looking around is checking if there is any way of increasing (even slightly)... my chances of success in this aquisition. :)
