Hi NamePros,

We’re announcing the launch of the .crypto domain extension on 12/11. 50,000 domains have already been registered. Go to https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=namepros to find available domains.

You’ve probably all heard about cryptocurrency, but may not be aware that new domain extensions are being launched on blockchains. These domains are not part of the ICANN system. They are stored by the owner, with their private key, not by a registrar like Godaddy. No one can transfer a domain or update it other than the owner. If you store website content on decentralized storage instead of Amazon Web Services, then no one can take down your website other than you.

A blockchain domain + Decentralized storage = An uncensorable website

This is the beginning of an entirely new internet built to protect free speech around the world.

Blockchain domain features
  • No Renewals - Pay once and it’s yours ... forever

  • No Custodian - Domains are stored by the owner. No third party can move or update them

  • Payments - The domain can be used as a payment address for cryptocurrencies. Send Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, or any other currency all to the same domain

  • Uncensorable Websites - Attach domains to content on decentralized storage and create an uncensorable website

  • Transfers - Escrow agents aren’t needed. Transfer to anyone in the world in under 1 minute with no risk of being defrauded

We’ll be moderating this thread and we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hi, UD:
When I tried to find out my ipfs hash by following the instructions from your forum https://unstoppabledomains.com/t/how-to-view-your-ipfs-hash-on-the-blockchain/672
It shows me a empty string in the last step... how can I use your template web design if I can’t figure out my ipfs hash? Or I must have created a html content?

Hi Jimmysun,

There will only be a hash if you have created a dweb site either with our templates or other templates you might have access to. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with, thanks.

Sorry I don’t understand, when I choose your template I can’t publish it because I don’t have ipfs hash...

The other thing is my domain is in the pending status for more than 72 hours already after I submitted my eth address to broadcast on the chain claiming, so I realized I forgot put more gas fee on it, so I went the other way to guest management, paid the gas fee and it works, but now in the domain page it’s still in pending...so I can’t do anything during the status.

Please contact us via the live webchat on our site so we can take further details. We will then ask one of the team to remove the pending status from your domain.

Cannabusiness.crypto

Charizard.crypto (for fun)

Etc

Etc

(Have great names, just not listing to preserve value.)

I got in early, and waiting for more premium names to be released.

Should be great.

Wow, with blockchain becoming more mainstream I wonder when we can get .crypto links working natively in browsers (like tor .onion links in Brave).

Soon

Chrome, Firefox and Explorer are already there. Just have to make adjustments in your settings.

That is fine. What is to stop endless other alternate root providers from launching their own .crypto then?
Nothing really.

Brad
Looks like a potential black ole

Well, I would not call that "natively".

In the next round of extensions .crypto is likely to be an actual extension, on the actual DNS route, and actually work in a browser without any modifications.

The argument behind holding a blockchhain domain such as .crypto is that unlike existing extensions, a blockchain domain cannot be taken away by a registrar or UDRP filing and a website cannot be taken down because of political backlash. The owner is in control.

If all domains are premium, who will buy?

Lol domains you mentioned might sell for 50k$ not by domain sellers but unstoppable domains itself

Yeh it does seem silly at first glance, but it doesn't take much to do a DNS change or a plugin to access these, if you cared to explore. If you don't care, well that's your prerogative but surely you can appreciate the risks involved in DN investing on new innovations that may very well be the groundwork of future standards.

Dot-crypto is pretty cool with their vision dual usage domains: direct crypto payments using the DN rather than a super-long BTC address, and you can develop it to be used just as any other domain.

Dot-crypto is NOT pretty cool in that I had believed they used user-input searches to "premiumnize" their names.. I saw it happen first-hand, eg. queried a name.. avail for a couple days to reg, and by end of week reserved.

I asked them about this, response was:
Searches are not being used. There were some domains that were not properly categorized. We just updated. What this means is that many domains were available for cheaper than they were supposed to be. If you think any were updated by mistake, please let us know.
but even afterwards, it was happening. Sure it is possible with so many millions of wordings avail, it just took a LONG time for this "categorization" to propagate within the system.

So, just like we scratch our heads sometimes on some traditional domain extension sales.. like "what was the buyer thinking" this isn't too far off of the same, not everyone wears the same lens.

@HotKey I get what you mean, however, if you're using it like a traditional domain for people to visit it's pointless without native integration. But still, $50k+ at this point? .com would have never taken off starting like that. They were free in the early years.
