Hi guys, I’ve got around 15-20 domains. Had close to 50 but let many of them expire. I’ve kept a few but recently I’ve been thinking I just want to put domain buying behind me. If I can get 1 good sale I won’t feel that bad and just want them gone. mom losing faith in them but then I’m very lazy, quick at buying them but not making any effort in selling them. I don’t even know where best places are to list them.

this is my list, some I’ve still got, many I’ve let expire, please let me know what you think any advice will be much much appreciated...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The key to domaining is the price paid for the domain or the domain name hand registered.

Research keywords, trends & consider buying domains on the aftermarket.

thank you for that advice but I’m feeling crap about these newly registered domains I’ve bought over the years I think buying aftermarket domains would cost much more.

...what should I do with them all?

Registering / buying the exact same keywords, but without any starting e/x, any hyphens, or any numbers might be a good start to improve your portfolio.

Probably the best place to sell UK names is at domainlore.uk or on the acorn domain forum. You haven't bought hundreds of names so your not out of pocket a lot so I wouldn't take it too hard. It's all part of the learning curve.

If you want to know made right decision assuming you exhausted all your options to sell in places; and “drop”

Down the line... visit domain see if any picked up, lander, or remain available. Dont surprise if HugeDomains pick it

That’s What happened to my cubss (.)com lol
Dam you HD

This...
I’m very lazy
is your problem. Not much anyone can do if you don't want to do the work. Just saying. I mean it constructively. Nothing wrong with being lazy. It just doesn't work in domain investing.

I would focus on .COM names when starting out. Email a few owners of decent names and rather pay low or mid xxx for a decent name that will sell, rather than hand registering 10 or 20 names for the same price that will never sell.

Don't mix numbers and letters in domains (4motorinsurance.com, 4motorinsurance.co.uk, 4reg.co.uk etc)
Stay away from trademarked domains like iphonebargains.com (iPhone is an Apple trademark)

I actually think this one has potential for a new boxing promotion :xf.smile:
boxingbonanza.com

Good luck

I’m very lazy, quick at buying them but not making any effort in selling them. I don’t even know where best places are to list them.
I can understand how you feel here. All you need is dedication.

But first decide, If you really want to make a base for yourself in domaining? If no, and if you just want to get rid of the above domains, then you can simply list them for a fair price here at Namepros.

If you want to learn the trade and grow, then pull up your socks and starting working on it on a daily basis with dedication. Read a lot, research what is selling each day. Follow experts around, and research what they are buying and try to understand why they are buying those. You will have to put in the work yourself.

Do some experiments. Try to do small trades here at namepros. Get active. Flip some, learn, repeat the process. Sell for small profits and use those learnings to buy similar and better domains. Climb up the ladder over time, and improve your domain selection based on what you have learnt till date.

In this process, you will grow, improve your understanding about a good domain, and a bad domain, and above all, gain more confidence in what you are buying backed with the right reasons to buy the same.

It is a process of self-learning, and it will only build over time once you start hustling. It really cannot be taught.

Try to understand where and how a domain will be used. Why would someone want to use it? Are there similar sales around? Such questions, and regularly improving answers to such questions will make you better over time, and you will find the confidence building up within you over time as and when you trade more and more, even if it is for small profit like $25.

Having said that, there are a few domains that struck my eye like SpreadTheCost.com, MedCare247. Be it .com, .co.uk or any other extension, you need to first understand the various intricacies related to that extension and its working. Until that develops, try to stick to .com.

Hope that helps. Best wishes.

Thank you so much. That was very helpful. And yes I still own them and you are right, I’ve had high hopes on those very 2 domains, spreadthecost and medcare247.
But from your advice, I’ll be very careful if I was to buy anymore and really know the game. You gave some good tips. Thank you

Real advice requested, real advice given. You're lazy and you've admitted that. Sometimes we find ourselves looking for the easiest route to earn money. And investing in quality assets is probably the easiest way to do it. But unless you're investing in stock, then you're going to have to put in some work.

giphy.gif

Domain investing comes off as an easy way to make money. You find a dope domain name, and eventually, it will sell itself. This is the farthest from the truth. It took me 2 years to sell my first domain name, and that was because I didn't do anything but list it. Just because you list it doesn't mean they will come.

If you aren't willing to put in the effort behind pushing your domain names and getting them in front of potential buyers, then you will never sell them. Your domain names will become a liability and not an asset. You have to make your domains valuable if they aren't. But again, this takes effort.

There has to be a sense of passion behind anything that we do. And if there isn't, then we will fail. If you know that you aren't willing to put in the work to get these domain names to sell, you might want to find another road to travel. Invest in something that you actually want to do.

If you are willing to learn and find out what it takes to actually sell domain names, then you're going to have to change your mindset first and foremost.

I also think buying tons of domain names before actually learning the game is absurd. Focus on investing in one, and getting that one off the table first before investing in more.

I also think that as investors it's highly important that we step outside of ourselves, and think like a buyer. Who is your audience, who are you trying to sell to?

People want BRANDS. People want to build a business around these domain names. So when you register and buy a domain name; are you capable of seeing a business being built around that particular domain name or are you just throwing words together, and choosing whatever you think might be good?

Domains with possible potential

2print.co-uk
unitedprinting.co.uk
bradfordprinting.co-uk- (names are harder)
4motorinsurance.com (numbers can be tricky)
4motorinsurance.co.uk (numbers can be tricky)
designprintcopy.co.uk
elogodesigner.co.uk
elogodesigns.co.uk
spreadthecost.com
spreadthecost.co.uk
no2smoking.com
iphonebargains.com
cellphoneinsider.com
alphaloans.co,uk
boxingbonanza.com
quickdomainsales.com
betzillion.com
medcare247.com (numbers are tricky)

You have about 17 domain names with branding potential, with room to remove a few more.
Let's say you paid $12 for each of these domain names. That means you've invested $204.

You have yet to sell any of them, which means you are going to have to pay registration fees yearly on each of these unless you choose to let them go.

Alot of the time, fees go up. So let's say now you are paying around $14 per domain per year; now you're in the negative $442.

These domain names are becoming a liability to your domaining business. I'm going to tell you what I tell all of my clients who are in over their heads.

  • Consolidate your portfolio

  • Hold on to two domain names

  • Make them valuable

  • Sell them for the money you lost with around a 20% markup fee

If you can make them valuable, you can sell them with no effort at all. And that is where the magic lies in domaining.

Thank you for your invaluable information. If I’m honest it became like a gambling thing which I feel I was kind of addicted to.

so I agree, I’m not in it as it’s too much time for me so just as you said, if I can get my money back on just a few to cover all the others then I’m good. I have paid fees for some of them for 10yrs.

So Sir, which few would you pick to concentrate on actively selling in the hope that they sell good buck and cover my loses with?

Thank you

I skimmed the topic and got as far as the op saying he was lazy.

It made me too lazy to finish reading the topic.

OP should get a real job and see how far lazy will bring him

Compared to the amount of domains for sale, almost none sell. If this was the real estate market homes would cost about 99 cents because there would be no transactions compared to the inventory.

So why feel bad? The chances of selling any name is almost zero, you are just experiencing what nearly everyone that touches this industry experiences.

But you know what? Most people will fail at any industry because everything is a game of slow and steady and few can do that. Even those that make it for a little will start making wrong assumptions and go on a bad buying / investment spree and lose it all.

In this industry you must wait a long time for a good name to become available that you will be able to afford and then wait to resell it. You will read about handreg success stories, but those are the exceptions. Like in all industries, the exceptions causes the masses to lose all they have.

Want to minimize your risks? Here is a short list, even if you follow it, the chances of making money is nearly zero, however, it will give you slightly better odds.

1. Ask yourself if you are ready to hold the name 20 years. If the answer is no, don't buy it.

2. Make sure its a dot com, no numbers or hyphens

3. Make sure the name is taken in at least 10 other extensions

4. Make sure there are at least 30,000 businesses that can use that name

5. Make sure its a keyword domain, maximum two words with a search volume of over 3000 exact a month and a pay per click of at least $1.50

6. If you cannot find 500 potential outbound leads for the name, don't buy it.

7. Be prepared to spend on average 600 dollars for a name like this, most of these that will hit the market will exceed the 600 price at auction so you must wait your turn.

Like I said, nobody will follow this, it will take too long to find a name, however, you are better off checking daily for names that fit this criteria and buy 1-3 names a year than buying up a random storm of junk. When you finally have such a name list it for a buy now of at least 25k with 24 month+ financing and wait, possibly a very long time. At least with a name like this it will be easier to liquidate should you have to and it will also be more likely a broker worth something will try to help sell it.

This is not a get rich quick business, its far from it, its a get poor quick business.

Avoid numbers in domain name and stick to *.coms.

Avoid buying more domains. Plan to sell atleast 1 domain at profit before buying 2 domains.

domaining takes months or years of hard work.. before results.. it's the exact opposite of quick easy money...like basically everything in life..

its something very few newbies understand... u just have to enjoy learning it all to keep going... regardless of results... else we should quit now... wanting results early without hardworking...is not even the right question or expectation.

I actually think you have a few in there with potential.

Off the top, the first one: 2lease.co.uk

A quick search shows that there are a number of established UK vehicle leasing companies using the KEYWORD2lease.co.uk format.

That shouldn't be a hard sell to a company wanting a shorter name, or to branch out.

This is new to my ears. Wouldn't the .com be taken before the 10 other extensions?
