I think this is going to become a huge industry in the not to distant future.......

Before creating this thread I checked out a lot of keywords / phrases and nearly all where taken in .com - they are available in .org .net country extensions etc etc but I was only interested in .com for this niche

A very good in depth report on Animate Materials below:

https://royalsociety.org/-/media/policy/projects/animate-materials/animate-materials-report.pdf

Latest news:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-56096888

There will be a live stream event on YouTube on Wednesday 10 March at 6pm GMT

https://royalsociety.org/science-events-and-lectures/2021/03/animate-materials

If you have domains or news for this niche please feel free to share!!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Never heard of this before but does seem a very interesting and promising niche for the future.

Animate Materials (.com) is already owned by a R&D company which is good because they have an added interest to work in this field so they obviously believe in the keyword.

I don't ever go outside of .com but I took the risk you mentioned above.

Decided to do:

Animate Materials (.org)

Animate Material (.com)

nice ones - looked at both of them and was 50/50 on the .com

I made a little list over the last couple of days and after doing a bit more digging regged the below

Adaptive Implants . (com)

Also found some further info on it......

Hey @NickB

Thanks for the quality links. Love this topic myself, and I've been extremely focusing on this area since ~2013.

Indeed it's a huge market, and really has many topics within, and interfaces with all sectors. From medicine to robotics, from gaming to smart living, and everything in between. Lots of innovation and startups operating in this field. There are end-buyers with deep pockets, and it's not overhyped on Reddit yet :xf.grin:

You didn't by any chance grab a few "sensors" domains :xf.smile:

Autonomous & Active keywords spring to mind.......:xf.wink:

I checked and they were regged

Mankind cannot ever have enough sensor domains, @NickB

But not today :sneaky:

After reading your posting I realized that Adaptive // Material // com was still missing in my Domain Cabinet of Curiosities, so I registered it today. The plural was already taken by someone else.

Still related to this "broad niche" topic -- smart materials in technology -- I really think you like autonomous robot insects, drone insects, spy insects, and robot insects. They're such smart little creatures. Hope they will never be used against humanity.

That was on my list, hesitation is not good when you promote a new niche on a public forum (n):xf.laugh:

Been reading up those little creatures, they're already being for some military missions as drones.......only a matter of time before they weaponise them - unfortunately......

Oops, that wasn't my intention. When the domain sells, I think I owe you a tiny rebel beer @NickB (n)

All good, I know before starting these threads it's going to happen :xf.grin:

Happened with some Defi domains - first come, first served and best of luck :xf.smile:

Interesting topic with some crossover to 4dprinting of materials and structures too, and biomimetics. As with other tech, you can see a tech will be big but you can't be sure what name the public will use, what domains people will use, and what domains will sell. Fascinating.

Plenty of short domains available with suffixes to animate:
bot
mag
services
gear
ware
tree
cube
stuff
smart etc etc

I believe the broader term will be Smart. The only 'Smart' name I have is Smart//\\Fabric but in .co. Wish I had the .com

There is room for all kinds of specialized companies and products that want to name a corresponding website. "Smart" is a great term for the general public, but the longtail is mainly sought after in the B2B market.

Personally so sick of "smart" mainly because most tech I come across in real world is dumb as sh!t, and completely needless. Also too many dependencies, one thing goes wrong and it's a dominoes effect. Happy to say, do not have one Smart object in my house, even my personal phone is from 2019 *edit 2010 and it took me forever to find one that was "dumb".

Being said, as @Future Sensors said, "smart" is a great keyword and I think it's popularity in DN and branding is that it combines so nicely with everything.

But this thread stoked my interest in animate and adaptive, so saving one or two for after my March domain rehab month is over. Hopefully they're still avail.

Stumbled across the guy's website who co-chaired the Roya Societies report on Animate Materials

Might be worth keeping an eye for the latest news, reports etc etc

www // markmiodownik // net (so it does not get indexed - don't want to give him any ideas)

You can also read his published papers on Animate Materials if you're so inclined :xf.wink:

More UK funding on the way for this space.......

UK’s innovation strategy reiterates ambitious science funding targets

https://www.chemistryworld.com/news...tious-science-funding-targets/4014091.article

"The strategy outlines seven strategic technologies for UK investment that leverage the nation’s existing strengths. These areas include advanced materials and manufacturing, bioinformatics and genomics, and engineering biology. The area of advanced materials includes metamaterials, 2D materials, self-healing and animate materials, as well as composite structures."
