How do you find a GOOD domain broker??

Hello Name Pros,

Domaining isn't my business, but I've been working online for a long time and so I don't feel like I'm clueless either. I have two domain names which I think should both fetch at least $XX,XXX and POSSIBLY one of which might fetch $XXX,XXX if the right end user was willing to pay big.

From what I understand the best way to sell a domain is to setup an auction on Flippa.com or eBay.com and then email a bunch of prospective buyers with personalized emails. The problem is I don't have the time or expertise to do this and I feel teaming up with an experienced domain broker would be ideal.

I contacted a bunch of companies and 2 days later no responses, I searched this forum for "domain broker" and see a bunch of threads in the joint venture sub section with zero replies. I just don't get it. It seems like there's tons of people who buy and sell domains (as noted from the popularity of this message board and other similar ones) but yet I can't find any one who is credible and serious that is willing to do the work.

Am I missing something here?? Is the only way to sell these domain names to do it myself?

Thanks!

PS: If you're a domain broker with experience please feel free to reply to this thread or PM me.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I would suggest Toby Clements of TobyClements.com and John Daly of NameConnect.com. They are both brokers and they will require your selling price.
Thanks for the info

in real estate anyone can hire an agent (broker) to at least try to sell any piece of garbage property they own, but not so in domaining, why? a sale is a sale, right?

Even with a broker it's pretty difficult to sell a domain name, it just adds more chance to the sale. I would say, don't hire a broker straight out cause you may as well be throwing money to the wind, make sure the broker gets a big cut of what you're selling. if you're selling a domain name for 6000.00 give your broker a cut of 1000.00 or even 2000.00. Also, present the list of domains to the broker and they will choose which ones they think they can flip.

basically domain broker have link or connection to end user that have big budget! it could be their previous buyer, or maybe they have high link to rich people! if your domain often get offer, broker can help to negotiate or finding potential end user! but if your domain, never get offer, most of the time, broker will reject your domain, simply because your domain bellow their standard! so, yeah, basically you don't need broker!

to be honest I am curious with your domain that have price xxx.xxx! and personally I don't think you will any problems if you just mention your domain names! unless your domain is not yours !

Are there any brokers that don’t charge an initial fee for trying to contact the owner of a domain? That or a way of offering proof they’re even trying to broker the deal and not just running off with the initial fee?

In my opinion a cross promotion could work as the broker services replacement, for example, if you are selling specific or general topic domain create SEO planned web page and then prompt the visitors with a selling offer of domain / web site.

How do you find a good domain broker? You don't they find you from your lists of priced domains. If your domains are priced keyword brand domainers will take note and when they have lead they will revert to their lists. The delusion is every name will sell so high seller needs a broker but the broker has customer and knows where to look or work from buyer requests. If you need a broker it is because you want someone to handle the negotiation and fetch higher price than your present offer. Eg you have offer ready to take at 2k ask broker to take over negotiation they take eg 20% but bump it to 7k so would still need to reveal the deal to someone here to help. After more posts more time the ones that influence build trust with you the most may help if you ask. Best advice would be to participate in the threads on subject niche extension etc show casing domains.

Assuming no one on NP's looking for a broker are holding significant one word names then I would suggest people try outbound their own names. Do the research using Google, Linkedin, dotDB, (if you can't find any businesses who would benefit from your name then you can't outbound it), create a target list, gather email addresses (use a tool), send a compelling first email (track your emails using a tool), keep it short and to the point, not overly salesy, follow up.

Any piece of garbage property cannot be picked up for $8-10. A domain agent can pick up garbage domains for the same as anybody else and take 100% of the resale price home. Why sell yours for 20%? Or even 50%?

20% of $20,000 puts food on the table. 20% of $100 hardly buys the ride into town to buy the food. 10% (the rate tends to fall as the price rises for obvious reasons) of $150,000 and we're on the way to a good income.

Put that another way. How much is a gifted sales operative's time worth? It takes roughly the same amount of time and effort to sell a $20,000+ domain as it does to sell a $1,000- domain. If you are paid by percentage rather than fixed sum, which do you want to sell?
