Why don't you share your best domains publically?

Hi,

I already read many messages on different threads (I can't find them if you ask) by members that they hold their precious domains jealously without showcase them here on NamePros, they prefer to hide them from some eyes and sell them discretely.

What is the reason behind this? for fear of being approached outside for threat? like it happened with Ledger Wallet (Their database got compromised, and thieves threat the users personally to extract from them the wallet seed and steal their bitcoins, especially if you are holding a domain with great value 2L, 3L, or that can sells for millions bucks). Or other reasons that you may explain by commenting on this thread.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Everything written in this forum is getting indexed by Google... including all the not-so-nice posts.

I think that's reason enough for people to be skeptical in showcasing something with comments that might be seen by a potential buyer,

Great domains will always be valuable, and some would argue any publicity is good publicity.

My question is what is the benefit?

Sorry @enterscope, I would disagree with those that believe that :)

You see, often when people showcase their domains, they directly or indirectly ask for an opinion, they ask for an approval, they ask for someone to justify their purchase.

That type of showcase -really of weakness to the eyes of a buyer- is *not* good publicity.
Therefore not *any* publicity is good publicity.

If you've ever played chess or poker you'd be familiar with the concept of thinking 3 moves ahead or keeping your cards close to your chest. Domaining is really no different.

The reason someone hides their domains are as varied as there are people doing this business and finally the "why" could also be hidden for similar reasons.

And some people just want their promo graphics to appear in Google as an additional sales channel.

Domaining is correlated with vanity and emotions. People can seek validation, to share and inspire or showcase their exploits as we are pro-social species.

The benefit(s), then, are of a neuro-chemical type.

I agree with Brad. Why would I list my LLL.coms here? Serious buyers find me every day. Not listing it weeds out the noise.

After i have exhausted thoughts or have best match. But i understand people not wanting to give away their way of thinking even listing entire protfolios anywhere.

Personal and professional reasons could also be an issue.

Two reasons why not:

1) can set the bar too high, may devalue other domains in portfolio
2) security, the more bad guys know, the easier to infiltrate

Depending on thread and amount of domains in niche, or lack of, yes have posted best.
