I am seeing many people are running behind crypto names (with word crypto in domain). I wanted to know are crypto domains very valuable and fetch good money even when they have random words / letters surrounding them?

I also noticed many crypto names are under "premium" category when you try them to register...

"Premium" often just means that a fellow domainer wants you to buy their domain in the aftermarket. And then list it again at a premium.

Thanks for the reply. Do you feel they are still worth buying/registering?

Having sold a couple of .coms with crypto in it, I tend to say yes. These were however aged domains and I registered them long before crypto got its current meaning. Before, it was more about encryption, cryptography, cryptology. Think of VPN, HSM, TLS, SSH, PGP, etc.

The current crypto market has to do with payments, blockchain, alternatives to traditional banking, etc. There are lots of initiatives and startups in this area, some useful others crap.

Try to read about these technologies in threads here on namePros and try to create a gut feeling which short one or two worders describe the field. Eventually, register some names. You may be optimistic, but never forget you are competing in an extremely crowded market. Most registrants are late in the game and will not succeed.

Hope this advice doesn't sound too cryptic. Wish you good luck learning, investing and selling in this interesting field.

Having educated myself a little, I jumped on and registered a couple blockchain domains to match a banking (.com) domain in my portfolio. Not going to go hogwild... I'll either put them to use or sell, but IMO, having these triactors will be a definite asset. As with any trend, hand reg crypto names are getting scarce (premium are pricey). :$::$::$:

Rightly said. Thanks for the inputs.

A good crypto/coin/blockchain+word.com can be worth a lot of money today but remember that it's value is directly correlated to current market trends. Late 2017- early 2020 was probably the best time to pick up such domains as the market was recovering and a lot of domain investors that lacked liquidity were selling their best crypto names for less than they were worth. It's now the best possible time to own a crypto domain and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some $xxx, xxx Crypto domain sales popping up in the next few months.
