How to Secure a Partnership online if you got a domain the other party wants to aquire

Greetings all! Recently I received an offer on a domain. Rather than selling it, I would love to work with them as they doing the same thing I intended to use the domain for.

I never meet the person; he/she might not be physically located anywhere close to me. Now a days its almost impossible to travel cause of covid, so I was wondering how one could secure a partnership via online as I would need to bring domain(s) to the table besides me being full time and all in in this project. I would appreciate your expertise and advise in regards how to secure my position. Thank you!

Info I got sofar:
1) Goddady sent me mail that someone is interested in my domain (listed their email address)
2) We started to exchange emails. Its they same email address that Godaddy sent me and the same email address is listed on their website

Zoom or Google Meet call so you can have some face to face time........and have a proper discussion on the details....followed up by some emails so it is writing, then hopefully get the lawyers involved......

I absolutely agree in regards involving lawyers and meeting by a video call, but how to secure the domain(s). He/she has the website and I got the domain(s). Is there a way to to keep the domain(s) securely and give him/her full access to it till we got everything down in writting and establish some sort of trust. Thank you

You can edit the DNS settings on their behalf while they get someone to build the site...you keep control of the domain, they can get on with development....win win

I had this scenario while buying a domain to develop, worked out fine...

Sell them the domain that is the business we are in. Everyone would be happy to work a deal on any domain if they are taking your traffic and not paying you.

Thanks for the response and sorry for the late reply. I am not in the business of selling domains. I get offers for my domain's through godaddy, emails and other registrars but none of them are for sale and I declined numerous offers before in the thousands. That being said I do have newer extentions like .health, .rentals and these I might consider selling but not my .com, .net, .ca. as I got plans for them. Only domain I sold was in begining of 2018 which took 2 months back and forth talk with the ceo. They had over $200+m marketcap and it would not be good for them If I had intercepted their push for a trademark. Eventhough I was threathened with a reverse hijacking we still managed to work it out.

What you do with the name will depend on negotiations. You say, I bring the domain and X to the table and I expect 123 things to happen by such and such date. If they happen, the name is transferred to the company. In the interim, they would probably want the name in some escrow account in case something happens to you.

If the domain is really critical and they feel you will add unmatched value they will probably talk to you, if its not, they will probably just make a take it or leave it offer and go find another name.

Honestly, unless you have some really amazing domain it is kind of unreasonable to expect a partnership.

I have tried this in the past and it has never been worth the effort. There are so many potential issues.

I don't want to get into the discussion about reaching any partnership or sale agreement with them. But the domain is quite straightforward. You keep the domain and point the DNS from GD to either their DNS servers or wherever they are hosting the web site/emails, or ask the escrow company to hold it (they then point it but don't let go) until agreement is reached and any moneys are paid over or the terms of the agreement are met.

Alternatively, you could offer to lease it to them. You hold onto the domain and cut the DNS off if the payments stop.
