It's when you're cruising along the forum, a nice Sunday drive, when all of a sudden you feel a ker-clunk! and you're like, what the.. just happened?? Glance in you're rear-view mirror, and lo-and-behold, there's this friggin' massive hump stuck right in the middle of the lane- put there to ruin your cruise no doubt, not to mention get you in the shop for some suspension repairs. It's a conspiracy, between the humper-bumper installers and repair shops to suck us of our monies.

Or just what Support Team said. Shouldn't be driving and texting anyways.

There used to be a wait period in-between each bump, but we changed that behavior.

Currently, it works as follows:
  1. Let's say you have 3 bumps available in one of your sales threads.
  2. Today at 8:00, you bump the thread. You have two bumps left.
  3. Today at 9:00, you bump the thread. You have one bump left.
  4. Today at 9:01, you bump the thread. You have zero bumps left.
  5. Tomorrow at 8:01, you will have 1 bump available to use.
  6. Tomorrow at 9:01, you will have 2 bumps available to use.
  7. Tomorrow at 9:02, you will have 3 bumps available to use.
If your bumps are blocked, then you're over the limit. A blocked bump does not bump the thread, and it extends the timer. Let's revisit the previous example to see how that would affect you:
  1. Let's say you have 3 bumps available in one of your sales threads.
  2. Aug 22 at 8:00, you bump the thread. You have two bumps left.
  3. Aug 22 at 9:00, you bump the thread. You have one bump left.
  4. Aug 22 at 9:01, you bump the thread. You have zero bumps left.
  5. Aug 23 at 7:00, you try to bump your thread, but it is blocked because you have zero bumps available at this time.
  6. Aug 23 at 8:01, you will still have zero bumps available because your three previous posts are now:
    • Aug 22 at 9:00
    • Aug 22 at 9:01
    • Aug 23 at 7:00
  7. Aug 23 at 9:01, you will have 1 bump available to use.
  8. Aug 23 at 9:02, you will have 2 bumps available to use.
  9. Aug 24 at 7:00, you will have 3 bumps available to use.
In other words, the system will determine whether you have any bumps available based on your most recent posts in that thread, regardless of whether you successfully bumped your thread with those posts.

We hope that helps.
What happens if I have 2 bumps in Established Member and I have 2 threads active. So can I bump each thread 2 times per day or I get 2 bumps in total i.e. 1 bump for each thread?

Currently, the former: each thread can be bumped 2 times per day.

Whenever someone posts a new reply to a thread, then it gets on the New Posts so NPs readers are more likely to notice it. It also has an extra reply which will help the thread get to the daily, weekly popularity lists on the sidebar. So he was simply saying thanks for providing a reply which helps bump the thread up and make it more noticed.

Bumps are used (with limits set by NPs) particularly on auction and other sales posts to help a thread stay on the first page and be noticed. Sometimes in other types of threads people add a reply partly to raise awareness of the thread.

Welcome to NPs @lightbear and we welcome your contributions, whether intended as a bump or not!

Bob
